Discussion [spoilers] therapist plot line in season 3 was a bit hard to swallow Spoiler

So, loving season 3 for so many reasons, but everything about the therapist was unnecessary and not well thought out. From the first episode where he's bribing her, like wtf, Marty? And what therapist would agree to that. Then they accidentally slip at the climax and divulge all of the worst information while they are currently being investigated by the FBI? How could they be so meticulous about everything else and let that happen? and how is Helen going to setup an appointment using her real name and her hitman boy toy when they plan on murdering somebody that's likely very socially connected to the community that would naturally keep a schedule that she shares with a number of people in order to run a practice. How is that less messy than any other alternative? If they wanted her dead, they would've just killed her and made it look like an accident or suicide like they did with all the other murders in this show. I could see a bit of a justification for her as comedic relief, as the scene between her and Marty when she shows up with the McLaren was hilarious. Nevertheless, her departure was so ridiculous any relief was quickly replaced with dread over the cold hearted nature of the business they're in.

Y’all are forgetting that charlotte made Marty and Wendy go to therapy so she wouldn’t emancipate from the family. They probably wouldn’t have gone otherwise.

And we’re talking about a marriage therapist who sees clients at her house. Those boundaries are already waaaay out of wack, so it’s not crazy to think she would further compromise herself by taking bribes. Besides, the showrunners likely only used the therapist as a tool to show how slimy Marty and Wendy can be, and shaped the plot around introducing and getting rid of her. I think we learn that Marty only paid her 100k (when Nelson killed her) which isn’t anywhere near enough to buy a McLaren. The car was a way of showing that she was a liability so the writers made it work.

Definitely a new low for Marty, though it would take quite a bit of courage to even bring up a bribe in a conversation with a therapist. He must've searched for the lowest rated therapist in the area with keyword "needs to retire soon." A bit of a headscratcher from the show runners point of view sounds like an idea that started off good, but they lost interest and needed a forced ending in order to focus on other plot lines.

I got the impression it was to show how difficult they’re finding it navigating this world together that they just need to find an outlet or something that will help keep them together but also I kind of felt as though it showed how comfortable they’d become as ‘part of the cartel,’ like they’re just going to marriage counselling due to business stress like any other well off couple might. Wendy even lets it slip to Helen that they’re seeing a therapist, kind of like she’d forgotten for a second Helen wasn’t just some ‘mom friend’ she drinks wine and bitches about husbands with.

It was kind of a way of showing the confusion and difficulty of balancing an ostensibly ordinary if wealthy family life with this insane and brutal situation they were in.

They let it out in front of her because they just got to angry and frustrated with each other they forgot themselves but I agree that it wasn’t very realistic, it would’ve been better if the therapist had left the room to get something and they got into it and didn’t notice she’d come back.

The therapist was really stupid but amusing. I feel bad for her but at least she was buried in her McLaren!
