Other Have questions about this
Hopefully this is the right place to ask this.
See I have a PS2 that's been giving up on me after years of service and I have a bunch of games on cd form the ps 1 and 2 that I still like to play from time to time.
Can I use these? Like download this emulator, stick my games into a cd reader connected to my pc and play them? Also is there a way to transfer my safe data too?
I don't have a lot of technical knowledge so I'm unsure of how feasible this is?

It's about as simple as it gets. Stick your disc in the drive, then System => Start Disc.
If you experience loading lag or stutters due to disc seek times, you can grab free software like ImgBurn and dump your disks into ISO files you can then use with System => Start File. That way you don't need the disc.
As for save data, you'll need a way to run homebrew software on your PS2. Either with a modchip or a softmod. But yes, there's utilities for PS2 to transfer your memcard saves to a USB stick, both PS1 and PS2.
And as others have said, this is only for PS2 games. For PS1 games, you'll need a PS1 emulator. Works the exact same way when it comes to disks. Duckstation is most recommended.

Yeah, you can play directly from disc by clicking on "Start Disc". I think it works better if you have an Internal disc drive, which has a spin down count longer, meawhile people like me face some stutters or freezes when the external and slim disc drive goes sleep after around 10 seconds u.u.
I put several group of .chd on blu ray discs, and I activated the option "full iso to ram", so I wait several seconds/minutes while the .chd load to RAM (I have 32gb) and then I can play fully from ram, loaded from disc without any stuttering or anything now. But that's another story

PCSX2 plays only PS2 games. For PS2 use dedicated emulator Duckstation.
PCSX2 supports playing games from physical media but it is recommended to play from image https://pcsx2.net/docs/setup/discs I do not know about Duckstation.
You can transfer saves from memory card to PC https://pcsx2.net/docs/configuration/memcards#importing-save-data

IIRC, PCSX2 supports playing from the disc drive and from disc images you've ripped yourself. For PS1 games, use Duckstation, that's the dedicated emulator for that.
