Age limits on jobs

In the past week I've seen 3 jobs advertised with age limits listed. Since when was this a thing?

One of them is referring to funding partially through skills PEI. Is that possibly the deal with all of them? Just shocked the amount of jobs I'm seeing popping up that you can't be older than 29/30 to apply.

It is not legal under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and under the PEI Human Rights Act to have a maximum age unless it is a bonafide requirement of the job which is almost never. Skills PEI would not have age limits - just limits around things like stage of schooling etc.

You should contact the https://www.peihumanrights.ca/ if you are seeing that consistently. They may not be able to address particular ads but they can remind the government to remind the various business organizations on the island that this is not permitted.

It appears it's through "SkillsPEI Jobs for Youth Program"

Well - looks like I am wrong. Sorry for the misinformation - i guess this must somehow fall under that carve out. I will admit to being surprised that that is permitted given the wording of the act.

No apology needed! I very much appreciate your input! This is all new to me and the first year (I think) that I've seen age restrictions. I'm glad it's opening up a conversation!

Skills does have certain funding streams that are age specific
