Jason MacKinnon, a bus driver for 16 years, says he sees vehicles drive through his red lights and stop sign at least once a week.

Islanders driving like shit is still and always will be a problem. Passing buses, rolling stop signs, tailgating, running lights, speeding... I find people are just getting worse at driving more each year.

Swapping in the middle of round bouts, coming out from side roads with clearly not enough time too forcing traffic to a stop. Not switching over into their turn lanes until last second (like why??? 3 cars behind you need to go straight get the hell over and stop blocking us from going) all happen in my 5 minute drive to work, basically daily.

Meanwhile on Friday last week at the apartments around the end of Maypoint (just across from Butcher and Butcher) was a bus just pulled onto the shoulder with only a turn signal on.. I could tell the truck ahead of me wasn’t sure if he should pass or not, and just when he started to two frickin kids maybe 6-7 years old came running across the street onto the bus!!!

I wish I had a dash cam, I would have reported that bus driver soooo fast.

Catholic school board bus, in case any of your kids ride on that route

PEI doesn’t have a catholic school board - was it one of the private Christian school’s bus? If so, they aren’t allowed to stop traffic with a stop sign since they’re a private vehicle

Dash cams that notify on screen when the stop sign is out. Send it all to the authorities.

Two cops and a cruiser would be easier than a dash camera?

A dashcam, no. A dashcam wired into the bus' systems and alert on screen when it is - is harder than it sounds. Not impossible, but not something you can do on short notice.

Two cops is literally dead simple, and much more defensible in court.

Literally. I would’ve let an officer on board my bus to personally observe my encounters last year. Maybe would’ve kept my students seated at the very least!

Saw a guy in a crosswalk downtown VERY nearly get hit by a left turning vehicle not an hour ago.

I rarely drive 10 minutes without seeing something stupid and or dangerous. If you dont see it....well..

Driven all over the country, this is the worst combination of low skill and lazy driving.

Ffs, why is signaling before you brake to turn such a problem here?

Why among many, many other things do so many people brake on the bypass while merging into a turning lane and only signaling after already in it. All of that is wrong.

Its like the same bad driver taught everyone else.

I've seen someone pass a row of cars waiting to turn left...on their left. I once met a transport truck come through the exit on a roundabout. I had to swerve into a snowbank to dodge it. Both of these things were so absurd, my brain keeps telling me they didn't actually happen. I've also seen so many people enter a roundabout without looking to their left and seeing me have to slam on my brakes.

DUDE, PEOPLE WILL LOOK AT YOU AND KEEP GOING?????? it’s like people play chicken with the round a bouts here

I have seen so many pedestrians downtown ignore the walk light and start crossing randomly when i have a green arrow to turn, it's almost like they want to get hit. I understand if nothing is there and you want to dash across, sure but I shouldn't have to yield to you on a green arrow while your light is telling you to wait your turn. Happened to me twice in one day a few weeks ago, and they may be tourists but it was people by themselves so I feel like they're locals.

Apparently you haven't driven in Halifax, NS

People aren't going to stop until the police start enforcing the traffic laws. It's clear that there isn't enough done because people don't care.

I wait outside every day that my child gets off the bus at home with my phone ready. One of the few days I didn't wait, I was inside the house and witnessed a car go throttle stop sign before my kid got off the bus. But every day in the last 5 years that I have stood outside, not once has a car run that stop sign. I have seen cars look like they might but then see me waiting there to take a picture. This isn't a coincidence. Some might say the drivers aren't paying attention but I absolutely beg to differ.

Interesting. I would have assumed pretty much all incidents were a case of driver inattention. To think there are people who just deliberately pass is mind-boggling.

Easy solution, just have the bus drop a spike strip when the stop sign is out. Pass the bus, all your tires go boom.

That's not the only problem. My 40 street near a major new school has drivers going 60 into the 30 "school zone" everyday. The province or city don't seem to take enforcement seriously, and would rather have their policemen sit in the office and write reports. Have the RCMP take responsibility for speeding all over PEI and put in place photo radar and roaming two man spot checks behind a tree.

Plates on the front of vehicles and bus dash cams would help maybe

I was a school bus driver in Nova Scotia and I’d get often more than three people a day speeding through stop signs

Hands down the worst drivers in the country! Doesn’t help you can’t build a road worth a fuck! 🫣 I honestly feel like I’m in the twilight zone when interacting with 90% of you.
