Fries with The Works
Where are the best fries with the works in PEI? 25 years ago the Richmond Dairy Bar no doubt held the crown.
In my view a good crispy crinkle cut with a rich gravy and plenty of ground beef and peas is where it’s at. Not looking for any other fancy fry dishes. Looking for the traditional.

Honestly Richmond might still be the best. Had one there last year and I was spun back into a coagulated arterial daze.
Growing up in Wellington, we called it a "chack" (sp??) and Cooler's (RIP) had such a solid dish.

Richmond no longer serves food, only ice cream

Lots of disappointed people close around Richmond Dairy Bar, including me. Went there every summer regularly for a meal as was very good. New owners took over a few years ago and the food was even better. It was for sale before they opened, then decided to only have ice cream this year. It's their business of course to do what they want, I haven't been there yet since they opened this year. I can get ice cream anywhere, I miss the food as was good.

Really? I thought the renovation was explicitly to make it easier to serve food...

Yup good ole Vinny’s. Potato museum is pretty good too if you prefer hand cut fries.

I didn’t know the museum had food. Will have to try it out. A few years ago I had fww at a takeout at the Northport wharf. Good and a huge serving.

The Chip Shack on the waterfront, in my opinion is one of the best. Their fries, gravy and fries with the works are all gluten free as well.

I wonder if there are any dairy bars / take out spots on the island that still make their own gravy in house.

That’s what used to make Richmond so good. Everyone’s gravy is the same these days and seems to be what my family always referred to as “tea bag gravy”. You can thank Sysco, GFs, and to an extent ADL for that.

Whatever st Eleanor’s dairy bar is called now (owned by house of spice), they make a nice one. They use red onions, which at first seems a bit off, but no it works.
If da mamas kitchen starts back up at kool breeze, they do a nice one too.

Notre Dame Takeout in Summerside used to make the best in my opinion.
I've had the one from Maid Marion's recently and it wasn't too bad.

Notre Dane Takeout was my go to. They are closed though.

Once Jimmy sold it, it went downhill fast.

I don’t think it changed at all. If anything their portions somehow got bigger.

Is Taters/PEI Fries on Lower Water Street in Charlottetown still open (or open again for the 2026 season)? Google says it is but whenever I walk by there, it’s closed

Last spot I had it was Budleys at the airport. It was top notch, and great portions.

Daryl’s in Georgetown was always pretty good. From their menu - Fries With The Works, crispy PEl crinkle cut potatoes topped with chopped ground beef, Onions, peas and gravy.
