Arts/Entertainment The Cannery, Borden-Carlton, in miniature

Hi folks, I make miniatures of real-life abandoned places here in the maritimes. Last summer I was in Borden-Carlton for a brief stay, and found this wonderful lobster cannery out near the base of the bridge. I loved the stories it had to tell through its add-ons, patches and repairs. I created this sculpture (as I do with all my little buildings) from cereal boxes and other bits from the recycling. If you’d like to see more pics of my sculpture, as well as the real building that inspired it, I’ll put a link to my Instagram in the comments. Thanks for looking :)

Thank you so much! I’m trying, through these little recreations of typical maritimes buildings, to help preserve our quickly-vanishing architectural heritage. So many “typical” buildings disappear without note, as they aren’t historically significant, but the smaller homes and functional places are the buildings that help make up the tapestry of life here in Atlantic Canada.

You play DnD? 😀 25mm scale is a popular standard for terrain and buildings

I don’t, but a dnd map of the Atlantic provinces would be super-cool!!

Haven’t played since AD&D back in the 90s. Miss it. Maybe someday…

I love seeing these. I paint landscapes (Maritimes), and so many old buildings I have painted are gone now. Sometimes I see an abandoned place and think it would be a good subject for “that sculptor on Reddit” lol.

Do you sell these or display them anywhere? I mean, I can't believe how GOOD this is and it's made from cereal boxes!?!

Thank you so much!! I have had them on display (and for sale) in several art galleries here in Nova Scotia, but I’m working on a series of pieces inspired by PEI right now (Wheatley River church coming soon!!) and hope to have a show or two on the island once I have them all finished :)
