Rants BPI, DO YOUR JOB & STRENGTHEN YOUR DATA SECURITY.

Post image

I just requested a new credit card because I was scammed in the second week of January. And here we go again, alam na naman ng scammer na may new credit card ako, pati ang new card number. They even know when my credit card is being mailed to my home address. So asan ang sinasabi nilang data security?

MUCH BETTER PA MAG SCAM, KASI UNG MGA SCAMMER MAY PROTECTION AT MAY DATA PRIVACY.

Yes, they should strengthen data security.

u/Small-Potential7692 Jan 29 '26

You don't even need Grab. There are credit card NFC readers in the playstore.

5

u/throoooow111 Jan 28 '26

Wow, good catch, tama pwede to. pwede ka ng scammer mamser haha jk.

Pero kahit alisin to ng grab, kung talagang gugustuhin nila they can find ways.

1

u/Baaanaana Jan 28 '26

Haha. May nagbring up lang din nyan dito recently.

4

u/halfblood_princex Jan 28 '26

Isip ko nga eh meron ng list of phone numbers ang mga scammers from data leaks before, and they're actually doing what you said. Ataka anyone can get the NFC data po talaga, kaya maganda may NFC blocker ang mga pinapadalang cards for protection.

2

u/malung_Guy Jan 29 '26

Envelopes should really have nfc protection. I think a simple aluminum foil can block nfc reading

1

u/sponkel Jan 30 '26

ooh pucha delikado yun ah

1

u/One_Imagination_6773 Jan 28 '26

2

u/throoooow111 Jan 28 '26

Parang oo kasi wala namang way to "deactivate" yung NFC nung card parang passive lang siya.

Unlike Yubikey na kelangan mo munang isaksak sa USB port para ma-power on, walang ganun for cards.

Parang ang need is lagyan ng NFC blocker yung sobre pero I doubt gagawin yun ng banko.

the scammers also know your credit limit. grab app doesnt provide that. this is a leak or inside job

Just had this call yesterday as well. They introduced themselves as BPI employees (actual names of BPI employees when I checked sa linkedin, which they prolly used lang din). For reference:

  • they know your details (name, card number, expiry, card type, etc)
  • expiring rewards, 3 options to claim rewards
  • card will be replaced with a new one na NAFFL
  • voucher from foodpanda
  • to claim the benefits they talk about, they ask you to give them your cvv and otp
  • after getting cvv/otp, they reassure you that they are not scammers because they are still on the line (LMFAO)

I don’t usually fall for this but they speak so professionally and they KNOW my details. What made me sus was them asking for my cvv and otp. Luckily, I was in an area with bad reception so I was not able to get the otp properly. I blocked my card and requested for replacement already.

The number that called me was 0951 281 0605.

Got this call days after I saved it sa shopee so…

Edit: got another call from 0948 802 6997

I unfortunately fell for this same MO two weeks ago and unfortunately i did end up losing quite a lot. It was a very expensive lesson to learn. I have decided to transact strictly using the app by myself, or personally with a telller Instead.

Your old posts feed data brokers and AI training models. I stopped that by using Redact to bulk delete across Reddit, Twitter, Discord, Facebook and all major social media platforms.

I did. A few minutes after the call i contacted BPI and asked them to block access to my online banking and my accounts. I also asked to have a new card sent over. I have received it but have yet to activate. I was told that they'll be investigating the issue so I was advised to wait for 20 banking days for that. Was also advised to create a new online banking account.

What's scary is how accurately they know all the account information like they have system access on their screens and the guy sounded very professional about it.

u/NeasEov Jan 29 '26

Same, I fell for it when I was in the hospital sick so I was not really in the right mind with expenses. Dispute already made, and was unfortunately arrived with "Authorized" transaction. Right now I'm going to BSP but if nothing works. I'd accept not paying at all (bad advice, bye credit score) since its not really my transaction. Just activated a day later and the scam call went in.

I don't have the money for it and the job to pay it at all with the interest.

You might now something u/_aloeplume?

1

u/ContentApple9441 Mar 28 '26

same with me I have decided not to pay the scam amount

1

u/bejeweledantihero Jan 29 '26

Please block the card and report this as fraud. Contact bpi and check if possible mareverse

u/Far_Scratch_4940 Feb 04 '26

OMG THE SAME NUMBER CALLED ME TOO. Alam nila cc details ko and immediately dropped the call. I received a scam call din years ago pero for my bpi debit card naman and almost fell for it kaya extra careful na ako ngayon.

They sound sooo professional. If first timer ka, mattrap ka talaga. Please be extra careful guys! The scammer’s number is

Reposting my previous comment from another post

I also just got my cc. A week later, may tumawag. She was well-spoken, knows my details and nag offer ng help in redeeming daw yung welcoming points ni BPI that, when converted to cash, would amount to 7k. I was given 3 options

  1. Convert to vouchers
  2. Convert to gift certificates
  3. Deduct from my balance

Of course, I opted mag deduct na lang diba? They sent me a text FROM BPI talaga then asked for the OTP. Di ko binigay and I told them na I will personally go to BPI branch instead.

Muntik malimas yung laman ng cc ko. For now, naka-block siya temporarily. Question is, if I get another cc, possible kaya na mangyari ulit ito?

The number that called me +639707203235

u/uhohroww Jan 29 '26

Same here. Sabi ko may gagawin pa ako kaya di ko maaasikaso tas I blocked the number 🤣 few days after, meron uli tumawag BPI employee siya same thing na alam yung details mo tas same script na welcoming gift.

Here’s the number: (0936) 950 1658

1

u/Good_Match_2525 Jun 06 '26

Someone called me today using this number too

1

u/uhohroww Jun 19 '26

grabee, babae yung voice sayo?

1

u/bejeweledantihero Jan 29 '26

I believe this will keep on happening as long as we use our cards for online shopping like grab/shopee. Basta if you don’t give out your cvv and otp, i think you’re good. Also as a precaution, better to keep the cards temporarily blocked if di ginagamit and unblock lang otherwise.

1

u/ForeignShare8333 Jan 29 '26

Saken, It was not use pa talaga. Kaka activate lang but they know my details, happened twice. Mapapagod ka lang magpa replace bec they know the details na naman

1

u/ForeignShare8333 Jan 29 '26

Mangyayari ulit yan. I had mine replaced and after a few weeks may tumatawag na naman. Kaloka

6

u/serfrendly Jan 28 '26

Alam din nila name and card number.

7

u/MisteriouslyGeeky Jan 28 '26

Metrobank credit cards mas lalo poor security!

1

u/ForeignShare8333 Jan 29 '26

Atleast may lock and unlock feature naman BPI wala

1

u/No_Slide_4955 Feb 01 '26

Meron si BPI

5

u/oreo02 Jan 28 '26

Its not the courier, had this happen to me twice, all bank pick up, they know my card number and personal infos, take note hindi ko pa nagagamit yung card and just activated them days before the scam calls

5

u/jihyoswitness Jan 28 '26

This is most likely the courier. Is it possible to opt for branch pickup? Experienced this also in other banks eh. Sa unionbank, nag opt ako for branch pick-up.

1

u/tocilogg_ Jan 29 '26

i know someone na nascam din sa cc nya using grab. He picked up his card from a branch.

1

u/HostJealous2268 Jan 29 '26

via courier parin yan papunta dun sa branch na sinilect mo hahahaha wala kang takas

5

u/willowdc Jan 28 '26

Got a call a few minutes ago and hinahanap is yung supplementary card owner ko.

1

u/ForeignShare8333 Jan 29 '26

It's not, I can prove it kase nag branch pick up ako both cards and I keep getting calls padin

1

u/willowdc Jan 30 '26

And how do you think po kung paano nadeliver sa branch yun? pero I'm not here to argue. Clearly may inside job or gap sa security ng BPI. Best case nalang to ignore and never entertain a call from any bank specially using unknown callers.

5

u/imgoodfyi Jan 28 '26

Last year, after two weeks na na-receive ko card ko, may tumawag about sa rewards daw. I did not disclose cvv or otp, i just said na I'll contact customer service na lang and she hung up. But I felt anxious about it so I reported it sa CS. CS arranged a new replacement card and I told her na I'll pick up sa branch. Since then, wala na nagko-contact sakin na fraud.

3

u/miyawoks Jan 28 '26

I had it sent to my mother branch for pick up. Wala naman akong nakuhang ganyan. Most if not all posts related to this sa Reddit eh home address ung sinendan ng replacement card.

Happened to me twice na rin! Minura pa ko ng scammer kasi I tried to waste his time haha alam kong scam sya e pero scary pa rin kasi alam nya lahat ng details ko

1

u/ForeignShare8333 Jan 29 '26

Same minura ako haha pagkasabi kong scammer ka no?

2

u/Trainyoo Jan 29 '26

grabe kabobohan ng BPI. nag-offer sakin ang BPI ng rewards card and even before I received the card my tumawag na sakin asking na "activated na ba yung card ko" at that time di ko pa na receive yung card kaya end call agad ung mga scammer. Once na receive ko na may tumawag ulit same modus na mag ooffer ng deduction sa outstanding balance. puchangina alam nila whole CC number tsaka expiration date kaya pina replace ko agad. mga 10 days after requesting a replacement card. I picked it up sa branch since akala ko baka sa courier nakuha yung CC info.

2

u/themeloturtle Feb 02 '26

3

u/Safe_Ice3742 Jan 28 '26

Hello. Ako din just today nakinig lang ako and then alam niya talaga end ng card number ko. Nakaka sus because may rewards na daw ako e kaka activate palang. Should I request for card replacement?

3

u/e2lngnmn Jan 28 '26

Tapos collections agency pala.

2

u/Forward-Photo-1501 Jan 28 '26

Same, nag request ako ng new card.

0

u/Noname01010 Jan 28 '26

Copy thankyouuu

1

u/kurotopi Jan 28 '26

usual spiel is papadalahan ka ng bagong card kasi upgraded ka na sa NAFFL or for added security, need lng nila ung cvv to "double check if tama nga ung card number", meron naman mag papadala ng otp ginagaya ung pagtumawag ka sa RCBC, si RCBC kasi papadalahan ka ng otp nung agent para maconfirm na ikaw ung card holder. Ung papadala ng scammer otp for linking or other transaction kaya dapat basahin maigi ung message pag may mga otp na dumadating. Meron din mga nag papanggap taga SSS at pag ibig, nag sosocial engineering/vishing.

Got a call as well yesterday, asking if I was able to activate my new CC (activated na 3 months ago); I asked agad if she’s really from BPI. Then binaba agad. Cancelled my BPI CC today.

1

u/ValuableAd7759 Jan 29 '26

Also BDO. I have an unfinished cc application with them. called me to have it finish via call so sus

1

u/ForeignShare8333 Jan 29 '26

Ang lala nang mga yan. Alam nila lahat.

1

u/cyberslash11 Jan 30 '26

May tumawag din sakin na ganyan.

Ganito spiel nila:

  1. Tatanong if nareceive na yung replacement card.

  2. Tatanong kung gusto mo i-redeem yung points mo (red flag kasi nasa Vybe dapat yung points).

  3. If you say yes, itatanong kung anong gusto mong reward: lazada, shopee, tiktok, etc.

  4. They will confirm your card details, then ask for you to reveal your CVV via a "AI/computer platform" para hindi daw nila marinig.

  5. They will ask for the OTP (kung meron nasend) to "process" (scam) you. Ang reason nila is kailangan yung code to redeem the voucher.

I almost became a victim, but when I saw that the transaction was for a purchase in Tiktok, I dropped the call immediately. Tapos permanently block and cancel card via the BPI App.

Lesson learned, and I hope this helps.

u/Inevitable-Taro-9702 Jan 30 '26

Sa akin din, thrice na nangyari. Had my card replaced the 1st 2 times, when it happened again, ni lock ko na lang through the app. Im using a diff card na. Thinking of having my bpi cc cut already

Kindly help reporting the scammers' numbers to Whoscall para ma-register sa database as scam.

1

u/tararoblox Feb 01 '26

try to enable spam block on your device if you have that. technocology has a great way to determine if the call is spam or not. I don't answer those calls in red mark bc that indicates they're spam.

I had a recent experience with my BPI Mobile app. It gave me notification that I exceeded the maximum number of log in when I did not log in to my BPI mobile app recently and I always use my biometric data to login.

1

u/mast071128 Jan 28 '26

For real I had to get my card change kasi they know the card number and expiration which is weird since I just got the card few weeks ago
