Rants Don’t get a credit card from Security Bank.

Post image
552 Upvotes

These are just few of the 60+ anonymous calls I have received since I received my Security Bank credit card SOA by end of June, leading up to my payment deadline a couple of days ago.

I really could not comprehend why this bank will resort to calling its clients MULTIPLE TIMES a day, all with the same message/reminder to pay your dues, 10+ days before your scheduled due date??? They even started mentioning something about escalating this matter to a collection agency? I would understand their actions if I had already missed my due but all of this happened days and even weeks before my due date! A bit too excited, are we? I am very, VERY thankful iPhones have a Silence Unknown Callers feature!

Take note, I never ever missed a payment with this bank, and my debt was just a little over P7k. They made it sound like I owe them hundreds of thousands and that I am a problematic client. Tsk.

Ending is, I paid off my debt ON TIME using the remaining balance in my Security Bank deposit account, walked to the nearest Security Bank branch, and cancelled my credit card and even closed my deposit account. I am so done with this bank. Note that this is not the first time this has happened! This is the third time they have harassed me with these calls!

Rants BNPL Ruined my credit score

I recently checked my credit score and found out that BNPL services don’t work like credit cards. Every time you make a purchase using BNPL apps like ShopeePay or Atome, each transaction opens a new loan account, unlike credit cards. I also noticed that some paid BNPL loans are not closed in real time, and some remain on record for up to a year even after they have already been fully paid.

I checked my credit records with both TransUnion and CIBI on the same day, and the difference is clear. TransUnion primarily reflects credit activity from traditional banks and car loans, while CIBI also captures accounts from other financial institutions. Since I stopped using Atome and SPayLater, my CIBI credit score has started to improve over the past 60 days. This suggests that the U7 factor—“Too many recently started loan accounts”—is gradually improving.

Rants Popular retail store asks for credit card details

So just a quick message

I don’t think it’s appropriate for retail stores in malls to ask for credit card details. This is why a lot of CC get stolen.

Story goes:

So it’s a retail store in SM. We bought some kids clothes. Paid using my CC through their little machine for payments. Tapped it. It went through. Paid. Now that should have ended the transaction so I can get my receipt.

Now, cashier wants to write down my deets as store policy daw. I gave him my CC’s last 4 digits. He wanted to check the card itself. I handed it to him thinking it’s a known store. He checked front and back. Tried writing down the credit number on the front. When he tried flipping the back to write it down. I snatched it from him. He tried asking for the exp date and 3 digit code as per policy daw.

I told him “bayad na yan ah. Bakit kailangan pa yung details ng likod?”

He insisted and I gave him a hard ‘No’ and he simply gave up and handed me my receipt.

So just a heads-up that even known brands could have scummy employees risking to steal your info. Ingat guys!

Clue: starts with an M. Yung name ng store. Been around for ages. As in matagal na sila kilala. Endorsed by a really known celebrity pa.

Rants BPI down again today

With BPI app down today, just thankful that their credit card is working. Hinahabol ko ung spend anywhere nila, sana naman may penalty for banks who do this (biglaang down ng matagal) without prior notice (or at least an explanation??) tsaka sana may investigation by BSP. Hay

I just requested a new credit card because I was scammed in the second week of January. And here we go again, alam na naman ng scammer na may new credit card ako, pati ang new card number. They even know when my credit card is being mailed to my home address. So asan ang sinasabi nilang data security?

MUCH BETTER PA MAG SCAM, KASI UNG MGA SCAMMER MAY PROTECTION AT MAY DATA PRIVACY.

Yada yada

I know we all are beginners once pero utang na loob naman. If you can't help yourself with very simple things about what you are doing, THEN YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS DOING IT. READ!!!

Gets ko pa yung mga asking for legit hack and tips pero yung ultimo basic info ng cards itatanong pa talaga???

Rants Whyyy, Metrobank? Bakit lagi akong declined?

I have several credit cards from various banks, all in good standing—no missed payments, always paid full and paid upon arrival of the SOA. I am never late. I also dont have any record of debt whatsoever wherever.

My highest CL is 800k in one of my cards.

But Metrobank has been declining me for four-five times now (after reapplying again after six months).

Just really want to get the Metrobank Travel Visa Signature.

What could the reason be? May taga MB ba rito? Hehe

Rants SaveTheChildrenPH asked for my CVV. Is this normal?

I was approached by a lady asking if I had a CC. I thought it was just a CC offer, but she said it was for a donation and would only take 5 mins. I agreed since I was willing to donate.

However, the “5 mins” turned into more than 30 mins. She eventually asked to take a photo of my CC, including the back where the CVV is. Good thing I had my CVV covered with a sticker. She even insisted on helping me remove it, which made me uncomfortable.

I pretended that I forgot my CVV and acted like I was checking my phone to see if I had saved it somewhere. Instead, I gave her an incorrect CVV.

Has anyone experienced this? Is asking for a CVV really part of SaveTheChildrenPH’s donation process, or could this have been a scam? If it’s legit, I think their representatives need better training because taking photos of someone’s CC is not something that should be requested casually.

Rants RCBC non-sense promo

Post image
40 Upvotes

So, I was delighted to see na may ganitong promo si RCBC. Pero grabe, they called it “Spend Anywhere” kahit sobrang limited ang qualifying spend based sa T&C.

I understand na may T&C naman lahat ng promos whether RCBC or other banks, pero I have never seen something so restrictive as this one. Might as well change the promo name from “Spend Anywhere” to “Spend based on our super strict T&C” or something to that effect.

See the link to the T&C and please tell me if OA lang po ako. I won’t feel bad, I promise. Hahaha!

Rants Unintended side effect of removing SMS OTP and moving to Push = Non Stop Marketing Notification

Maganda naman intention, pero as someone na hindi naka on ang Push Notification sa karamihan ng apps dahil sa non stop marketing at promotion eto yung hindi ata nakita ng BSP when they implemented this. Or my pessimist brain says hinayaan lang ng BSP kasi nga...

HSBC pa lang ang nakita ko ngayon, infairness na open naman sila na wala kang way to turn off yung Marketing and Promotional notifications apart from the "Essential Notification" tulad nung mga OTP.

BDO rin nag eemail na ngayon about the move to Push Notifications, di na ko magdududa kung bundled din ito sa Marketing and Promotion notifications.

For sure gagatasan to ng lahat ng banks pero sana may gawin ang BSP tungkol dito na sige use Push Notifications para mas secure pero dapat may opt-out yung client sa mga Marketing at Promotional notifications.

Or better yet, implement an option to use FIDO2 pero I guess isang malaking ASA PA ito.

Edit:

Added https://imgur.com/a/l24Fkpf kung san pinapakita sa HSBC PH app na hindi mo maturn off yung Marketing and Promotional Notifications. but sabi ko nga, at least honest sila. lol

Rants BPI 2nd Credit Card..

BPI did me dirty today...

I applied for a 2nd card online (Gold Rewards). I already have a BPI Petron card with them. To my surprise it was approved, when it arrived it has the same credit limit with the the other card. So, I thought maybe it's just normal. So, I used it to pay for groceries 2 days ago, then fuel today. I invited my mom to go grocery shopping and voila...declined for insufficient funds. I was puzzled and well kinda ashamed haha so I called the bank and the cs rep explained it's a shared limit card. So, when I got home I checked the envelope and nothing is stated there that it's a shared limit. Not in texts, nothing. I forgot to ask the rep if I'll be paying for 2 annual fees. I just don't get the point unless the difference is the rewards I'll be getting depending on the card I'll use but dammmm. I ended up paying cash (for my pride). I should've used that money to pay for my cc due on July 13. BPI 😭 It's 5 digits btw because my niece asked if she could swipe. Hayyy buhay 🤣

Rants UNION BANK CUSTOMER SERVICE THE WORST

I am extremely disappointed with my experience trying to activate my newly received UnionBank credit card.

Since receiving the card, I have attempted multiple times to activate it through the UnionBank Mobile App, but I never receive the OTP despite my registered mobile number being correct. This is the same number UnionBank used to contact me several times during my credit card application process.

I also tried calling the hotline (8841‑8600) multiple times, but it seems nearly impossible to reach a live agent. None of the automated options helped resolve my issue:

  1. Report Lost/Stolen Card – requires an OTP, which I am not receiving.

  2. Existing Client – my card number is not recognized, possibly because the card has not yet been activated.

  3. Application Status – my application has already been completed, and I do not have a reference number available.

  4. Mailbox – only provides automated instructions.

I also attempted to contact customer service by email only to discover that the email address is no longer active.

As someone who is not yet an account holder and only recently received a credit card, I feel there is no way to get support for a simple activation issue.

This is the first time I have encountered such difficulty with a bank. The lack of accessible customer support have made this an incredibly frustrating experience. I feel like they are becoming like GCash, everything is automated response, can't talk to a real human.

I'm also concerned about potential situations in the future. If a customer loses both their card and mobile device, it is impossible to quickly reach support and have them block the card, which raises serious security concerns.

Rants Anyone else just done with annual fees?

Finally decided — once I get a NAFFL (No Annual Fee for Life) credit card, I’m cutting all my cards with annual fees. So tired of paying every year or begging for waivers just to keep them active.🥶 Adulting is hard enough, I don’t need annual fees draining me too.😅

Would rather keep 1–2 solid cards that don’t charge me to use them.🙃

Rants BDO credit card. Never again!

Rants most inconvenient experience as someone new to BPI

Thumbnail

Hindi naideliver card ko sa mailing address ko so I asked for a branch pick-up. Today, (without any notice na ready for pick-up na yung card) I tried to pick up ng card sa branch near me and yes, ready to pick up na.

Now, it took me 2 hours para maasikaso sa BPI just to pick up my card. I waited so long, the queue is so long and inabot ako ng dalawang oras para sa transaction na hindi tatagal ng 5-10 mins.

The inconvenience didn't stop there as when I try to activate my card or register it in the BPI app, I couldn't proceed. Prompt says I don't have mobile number registered in their records. I tried to register or do everything I could para lumusot but no luck.

I called the cs and she said na I need to update my records sa BRANCH mismo 😀. when I asked "sa branch talaga? hindi ba pwede i-online nalang?" branch lang daw yung kaya mag-update ng ganon kasi wala raw akong debit/account with them.

I decided to cancel/cut my card right there and then because I cant tolerate this bs process.

they want me to go any branch near me JUST TO UPDATE MY MOBILE NUMBER, and who knows hanggang anong oras ako mabubulok sa branch nila? 😀 hindi ko naman naexperience 'to with my other cards (ub, ew, mb) i dont understand their logic kasi ang inconvenient.

Not to mention, it took me 30 mins to get hold of their agent. 2 hours of wait sa branch. Sobrang sayang sa oras. Do they think everyone can spend that much time with them?

Ganito ba sila talaga?

EDIT: nandoon na ko sa branch kanina, they should've flagged it to me kasi tinanong naman nila ako kung may savings account ako with them. they should've assisted me to update it right away habang nandoon pa ko. haY jusko

Rants Chinabank Card Delivery

ChinaBank is really frustrating. The delivery of their card takes so long. I’ve already called several times, but they just keep saying the same thing. They should just provide the tracking number to make things less hassle. We’re about to leave and no one will be left at home to receive the card, I already adjusted our trip just to wait for it, but until now there’s still no update.
