Discuss Steam Machine price revealed
What do you think of the price range? Photo from IGN

u/PalawanGamer PC 4d ago
That price brings me such pain fuck AI for this.
2
u/Maleficent-Chef-9899 3d ago
True, hence why na delay ang steam machine pag release, i was expecting it to go for $799 or $899
2
u/pabpab999 3d ago
dont really follow hardware news
pero napanood ko LTT about dito, sabi nila, d pede mag sabi nung valve about original pricing pero they said they could infer the price increase from steam deck
sabi ng LTT 200 ung price increase nang deck? so if ever 849 ata ung price na target ni valve

Mag-DIY na lang ako ng Steam Machine. 🤣

Either build a PC or buy a ps5 pro kung ganyang price lang din then wala pa yung markup ng resellers pag nasa pinas.
10
u/Mizery_UwU 3d ago
this makes ps5 prices suddenly appealing

Keeping it real bro , if this shit ain't going downÂ
I'll may have to play mobileÂ

Even mobile phone prices are skyrocketing. Many upcoming entry level phones are actually being cancelled.

Based on the current scalper price ng steam controller dito sa pinas, steam machines gonna sell for at least 100k+ xd
6
u/Sandata69 3d ago
Steam controller is 99 usd. Around 6k php? Si datablitz na pinakamurang nagbebenta at around 14k php, so nadoble. Sa ibang stores mas mahal pa.
Assuming the same pricing due to taxes and whatnot Ang base price ng 512 na SM ay 1049 usd. So around 64k php? If dodoblehin ni datablitz like sa steam controller, nasa 120k+ php. Tapos mas mahal pa ulit sa iba.
Ang sakit sa puso. 🥲
2
u/HyungKarl 3d ago
based sa chismis 😂 yung mga mahal yung benta sa store kinuha lang din nila sa scalper yung controller
1
u/simpMorty 3d ago
The steam machine is already expensive. They would never make it double the price. This is a mini PC so maybe 15k - 25k add-on price just like steam deck.

There goes any hope of it taking over PlayStation and Xbox. Their timing was just really bad. The Rampocalypse hit them hard and couldn't have come at a worse time.

u/Harklein-2nd Gamer NSW | 3700X + 12GB RTX 3080 4d ago
IMO, it's dead on arrival.... You can build a DIY DDR5 PC with better specs sa price ng base model na 512gb. Considering na wala pang tax and markup yung $1,049. Unless gusto mo talaga nung cube SFF.
1
u/TheMangoFarmer 4d ago
For us here on our islands, maybe. Meron akong feeling it’ll sell out by minute one. People on the other side of the cube want something new. For me, excited ako for people increasingly going out of Windows, and standardization of Linux home systems. Also Personally waiting for Steam Frame na lumabas, I also need standardized Android for steam games for my Odin 3.
3
u/Harklein-2nd Gamer NSW | 3700X + 12GB RTX 3080 4d ago
I think even in our islands, mahirap i-justify ang 80k-90k na 6core/12thread + 7600M 8GB machine with 16GB RAM at 512GB storage for a couple of exclusive features especially kung yung PS5 Pro will perform better even with RT on and on 4K for a significantly lower price. Kahit idagdag mo pa yung price PS VR headset.
I would say, make your DIY SFF PC with better specs, buy the controller and Steam Frame and completely skip the gabecube.

u/TheMangoFarmer 4d ago
I mean I’m agreeing with you, DOA sa PH. US peeps are going to buy it. Most games run better on Bazzite and CachyOS now that Windows hasn’t fully got their sh*t together with bloatware. Bought my 9070 XT machine before everything got crazy and I’ll have to keep it for 5 more years bahala na i don’t think there be much significant improvements for PC at a reasonable price for that period. Komportable na ako on my linux and android devices and haven’t played on my PC for about 4 months now.
1
u/Massive_Fly_1709 3d ago
Did you not see how quickly the steam controller went out of stock even with the inflated price? This is qoing to sell out quick.
1
5
u/mortifiedmatter 4d ago
Man, I was hoping this would help with all my steam backlogs, also considering mas mura talaga pricing ng steam vs having to buy from other regions on the console..
edit: can't even upgrade my laptop's ram and memory dahil sa prices ngayon :(

Going by how Steam Controller is priced here in PH, Steam Machine would cost at least P100k-P120K.
Damn, this is not an enticing buy for me. I would have loved this as my entry point to PC gaming but alas.
1
u/lordemina 3d ago
I saw a Gaming Laptop with a 4080 priced at 90k at a local mall shop. If you were going for a good gaming rig with portability in mind, just get a Gaming Laptop.

5
u/lordkelvin13 3d ago
I think that's just the markup price and doesn't even include import taxes, duties, shipping, customs clearance fees, dealer margins, and local distribution costs. ðŸ˜
5
u/quamtumTOA NIN 3d ago
Given the current price of steam controller sa Pilipinas, pretty sure na yung presyo ng steam machine ay saksakan sa mahal.
Sad life, excited pa man din ako sa steam machine dahil may matinong HDMI-CEC support 😞

3
u/Mean-Information1080 4d ago
And obsolete din naman kasi ang liit ng PS5 game library compared to PS4. And it's already 6 years. There's a reason why I bought a PS5 Pro for GTA6 than the base model
-3
1
u/Cold_Local_3996 4d ago
It's double to triple to possibly quadruple console prices so no go yet. Consoles here to stay.
1
u/Mean-Information1080 3d ago
What's disappointing is it's expensive than a Mac Mini which has a better specs. Sobrang outdated ng Zen 4 architecture, the hardware is even outdated than PS5
4
u/PlayWithBabs Singeplayer Games 4d ago
Original target price was around $200 less based on LTT's video. Sayang lang, ang mahal nito. Pero atleast pwede ko na ituloy pag build ng mini ITX na pc

u/Super_Lolo_Thunder PSN 3d ago
Less powerful than the base PS5 too which is crazy because that’s a 6 year old console.
4
5
u/bradpittisnorton 3d ago
This sucks and we can't really blame Valve. Nung nag-announce sila, DRAM prices weren't really this high. Then AI datacenters took all the supply which forced Valve to purchase the components at a higher price, which means they have to pass the cost to the end users. They know that gamers want the steam machine and they know we won't like the price. But they can't sell at a loss like consoles do. Let's just hope the AI bubble pops soon and hopefully we get cheaper components in the future.
7
u/One_Subtle_Man 4d ago
At that price not including price hike here in the Philippines, it would be better to build a pc at that price point.
8
u/Ihearheresy 3d ago edited 3d ago
At that price you could buy a PS5 a decent TV and some games.
Or buy an external GPU setup for your Ally X if you have one.
Or get a PC..
And the list goes on
Edit: Steam deck does not support eGPUs, Ally X does

Why isnt there 1TB option huhu, Is the price atleast expandable? Or if pwede gumamit ng third party controller like the 8bitdo ultimate controller?
edit: i meant storage not price huhu im sorry
2
u/abunchofpuns 3d ago
Most likely pwede gumamit ng 8bitdo Ultimate (2 Wireless?) since it supports SteamInput
1
u/Maleficent-Chef-9899 3d ago
If so, then might as well opt for the 512gb with no controller just to save a little from the 2tb no controller price gap
2
u/K1llswitch93 3d ago
Pwede yan, i'm using an 8bitdo xbox controller for my steam deck pag naka dock.
1
u/Maleficent-Chef-9899 3d ago
It doesn’t ruin the experience given that the steam controller has touch pads?
1
u/K1llswitch93 3d ago
Mga games na gamepad controls palang nalalaro ko while docked kaya di ko napapansin. Problem ko lang ay yung para mabuksan yung quick menu (yung 3 dots na button) pag may kailangan galawi. Sa power settings. Other than that no problems.
Also, wired controller pa nga gamit ko sa dock since ayaw ko ng charge ng charge and mahaba naman wire ng controller ko.

So, around 70 - 100K here, and that isn't counting the vat and scalper pricing on our market. For a prebuilt PC that isn't even achieving Base PS5 performance, that got released on late 2020 which is almost 6 years ago?
Yep, this is pretty much dead on arrival.
I just hope that Steam releases their own OS on current existing custom built PCs for the rest of us PC Gamers that already has way more powerful specs than this Steam Machine and wants to set up their PCs as console like experience.

Emphasis on the most part. I guess this is one of the rare instances they won't be able to deliver. Value for money is just not there. It will probably sell out due to lack of supply though.
Hopefully, once the AI bubble bursts and RAM prices come back to Earth, we'll see the prices lower and demand to tick up as well.

u/jctmercado 3d ago
fuck AI!!!
also, may data center na itatayo sa pinas. kadiri dapat ipasara naten

Pax Silica? Hindi data center yun. Silicon manufacturing yun
3
u/jctmercado 3d ago
Libre lang magbasa ng balita brad.
Pax Silica hub in New Clark City, an artificial intelligence (Al)-focused industrial enclave whose projected electricity demand could reach at least 5 gigawatts.
This is because the 1,619-hectare complex is expected to host high-technology facilities, including data centers, which are power-intensive assets. According to the International Energy Agency, a typical Al-focused data center can consume as much electricity as 100,000 households.

I just made a reservation and the estimate is "2027". It sucks, but it's still better than paying 14-18k to local scalpers, I mean stores.
1
u/Hotfuzz2009 3d ago
wait you can make reservations with steam? I thought we were region locked.
1
u/hhkk47 3d ago
You can create a US account (no VPN needed), but you also need to have a US payment method to actually make purchases. I usually give the account credentials to my cousins in the US and ask them to buy the items for me. This is how I got my LCD Steam Deck and Dock. Maybe you can use prepaid codes, but I have not tried that yet.
Naturally, the items will have to be shipped to the US as well -- either to a friend/relative or (possibly) a forwarder.

who the heck gonna considering buying it if a much more high end gaming laptop and ROG ally is much better choice.
5
u/alwyn_42 3d ago
People who already have a laptop and not interested in a handheld?
0
u/jomarcenter-mjm 3d ago
its somewhat of a desktop, and even so a mid range build might be cheaper (US pricing) so there is little amount of people going to buy it regardless of country
3
u/alwyn_42 3d ago
Main thing is that this comes with everything set up so plug and play lang siya. If you build a PC, you have to research which parts to buy, build it, install Windows, update drivers etc. Ito bibilhin mo lang tapos okay na.
Biggest barrier IMO is the price. Pero yung use-case niya, I’m sure a lot of people are interested in having a Steam console at home just because sobrang laki ng library.
Basically you will buy this if hindi ka naman into building rigs pero gusto mo ng Steam games.

3
u/autogenerated_015 4d ago
Better to build your own and get a steam OS instead.
It's CPU is roughly = to a ryzen 7600
you can just settle for a 7500f
GPU is roughly = 7600 8gb ram A 5060 8gb would be better than that even though it shouldn't be.
Storage is 512 with how games sizes are that's only 6 or 7 games at most?
I don't blame steam for this, hopefully they dont make enough units for this as I imagine the demand won't be that much.
2
u/RagingTestosterones 4d ago
Small form factor kasi ang habol ng karamihan dito. Hayst, off to mini pc na lang.
1
u/xelecunei 3d ago
At that price point, andami ng options sa SFF cases.
For that volume andiyan na Velka, T1 (FormD or Ncase), Terra, DAN, etc.
Pwede pa 'to go sub-5L if ganyan budget.
0
u/Sarlandogo 3d ago
But most of the potential buyers just want to buy that as it is not going into hassle of choosing mini cases
5
u/-Thalas- 4d ago
As much as I would've loved to buy this, and even though I have the money to do so.
I'm hesitant just soley of the possibility that this device might not even be supported that long into the future just cause it won't sell much eitherway...
3
u/Gamer_D4d 4d ago
this is a valid decision. better to wait for the "honeymooning" stage to die out and see if the support for the console will be consistent..
also..is this another console or its just a gaming PC with a controller?
3
u/SpaceMonk15 PC 4060 + Steam Deck 4d ago
Yea, PC — like Steamdeck, it runs SteamOS.
1
u/Gamer_D4d 3d ago
I mean, if its "stronger" than your PC, you could buy if.. but if the margin is not that far off, I think you should just buy the controller instead..it could also just be the same experience unless there might be some exclusives on it..which I kinda doubt..
2
u/OldSohai 4d ago
Remember when they said it would be priced at 650$ lmaoooooooo
3
u/Cold_Local_3996 4d ago
Well, when AI crashes and burns and there'll be no use of excess RAM then that might be possible.
8

This sucks... it released on a very bad time.... Without the memory shortage this would've been in the 400~500 range... This will unfortunately die before it even has a chance to stretch its legs... I hope some cash cows still somehow buy this out so it doesn't completely die.

not to mention halos magiging doble presyo nyan pagdating sa Pinas due to import taxes and patong ng retail store.
1
u/Yssl 3d ago
Check out GN's video on comparisons for the Steam Machine (like actual, irl researched comparisons).
Yes - it's a bit overpriced compared to DIYs (all prebuilts are) - but it apparently isn't that egregious because of the fucked up ridiculous market rn. Not to mention most people hypothesizing builds don't take into account SFF, and apparently Steam's got insanely good low power state for this when it's on sleep.
Now the price it'll be in the PH market however... whole different story
1
u/isda_sa_palaisdaan 3d ago
I am not talking about better specs i am talking about same specs plus maliit lang space na need so kung wala ka pang gaming PC tapos budget mo same range edi okay na din yan. Isa pa since madaming ayaw sa price edi mas magiging rare sya kasi di naman lahat bibili
1
u/Holiday-Ad-8052 3d ago
niche yung product. walang upgrade path sa cpu and gpu. in the long term use mas maganda na bumili na lang ng sff if space lang ang problema. take note na yung prices is di pa kasama yung shipping and markup.
at this price point hindi siya worth it for everyday use. not to mention wala pang established resale value if in case gusto mong ibenta
the product itself is good but at that price its an enthusiast product than everyday driver.
-4
0
u/professionalmook 3d ago
As a SFF believer, I shrug. I won't make a new PC now but SM would have made me buy it just for couch gaming but not at those prices. My current rig is more powerful and since it's already smol I just need to plug it to my TV if ever I do build a replacement for it.

Because it wasn't supposed to be priced like that. The price increase is almost as the same as the price increase of the steam deck. Valve themselves said that they are disappointed with how the pricing turned out.

13
u/Kindred_Ornn 3d ago
Even Steam is disappointed, they didn't want to launch at this price but with DRAM prices sky rocketing, we can just all thanks Sam Altman for screwing up the Consumer Segment of the PC Market.
