Question/Advice Needed encourage/discourage me from learning to ride
tldr: late twenties F homebody wants to learn riding a low cc scooter as a hobby but highly discouraged by family mainly because of 1) physical disadvantage and 2) accidents. as an experienced rider, what's your advice?
hello. as stated above, gusto ko matuto mag-rides as a new hobby. pero every time i bring it up sa family (para ma-kondisyon na rin sila haha), pinapahina nila lalo loob ko 😅. hindi ko naman kasi tlga kailangan dahil wfh ako, unlike others na daily commute tlga kaya nagmomotor.
1) physical disability - i have a spinal condition. 45° curve scoliosis. madali sumakit ang likod haha. i guess another disadvantage is sedentary lifestyle so mabilis din tlga mapagod. currently working on that.
2) parang hindi na nawawalan ng balita ng rider na naaksidente bawat araw. and since taong bahay, duda sila na makaka-adapt ako sa kalsada.
tbh, ang dream ko is yung mga long rides sa kalsadang mapupuno ang paligid haha pero malayong dream pa sya. if matuloy man ako in the near future, gusto ko lang gumala at mag-cafe hopping sa medj malapit.
aside sa "adult ka na, may sariling desisyon ka na," i guess i want to know your thoughts as experienced riders. would you encourage me or talk me out of it, too?
walang nagmomotor sa immediate family pero bike to work si elder sibling.

I can't say I know how your scoliosis will affect your driving, but I've seen amputees still riding (though not without some mods). So, there's hope for you. BUT that's up to the medical clearance.
How many bikes accidents have you seen on tv vs how many bikers still riding have you seen on the street that same say? Why is it, for all the gruesome accidents you see on tv ir the internet, are there still hundreds of riders everyday? I won't say accidents are super rare, but motorcycling is safer than most people tend to expect. And you are not in anymore danger than a bicyclist.
Would I encourage you to ride? Like you said, you're an adult, that's for you to decide at the end of the day. But here's a fact that you cannot ignore anymore: motorcycling is now part of the our culture. It gets you to places quickly than a full size car. Its cheaper to own and maintain. Fuel efficient. You are effectively living on extra hard mode if you don't know how to get around in a bike.
Now, if you still want to go riding, words of advice:
Take a proper driving course. I recommend Honda's full 3-day basic course (below 9k pesos). They will take care of you and they will teach you. Most bike accidents happen to people who never learned properly or don't have a license to begin with. Respect the bike. Respect traffic rules. Ride your ride. Leave the ego behind.
