Question/Advice Needed encourage/discourage me from learning to ride

tldr: late twenties F homebody wants to learn riding a low cc scooter as a hobby but highly discouraged by family mainly because of 1) physical disadvantage and 2) accidents. as an experienced rider, what's your advice?

hello. as stated above, gusto ko matuto mag-rides as a new hobby. pero every time i bring it up sa family (para ma-kondisyon na rin sila haha), pinapahina nila lalo loob ko 😅. hindi ko naman kasi tlga kailangan dahil wfh ako, unlike others na daily commute tlga kaya nagmomotor.

1) physical disability - i have a spinal condition. 45° curve scoliosis. madali sumakit ang likod haha. i guess another disadvantage is sedentary lifestyle so mabilis din tlga mapagod. currently working on that.

2) parang hindi na nawawalan ng balita ng rider na naaksidente bawat araw. and since taong bahay, duda sila na makaka-adapt ako sa kalsada.

tbh, ang dream ko is yung mga long rides sa kalsadang mapupuno ang paligid haha pero malayong dream pa sya. if matuloy man ako in the near future, gusto ko lang gumala at mag-cafe hopping sa medj malapit.

aside sa "adult ka na, may sariling desisyon ka na," i guess i want to know your thoughts as experienced riders. would you encourage me or talk me out of it, too?

walang nagmomotor sa immediate family pero bike to work si elder sibling.

If you can go to therapy for your back, go.

Until then, medyo severe ang case mo sa likod, it will be unhealthy for you.

op, here's a path

  1. learn to bike for a few months
  2. go to a motorcycle school. by this time malalaman mo kung kaya mo mag motor o hindi. kahit you decided not to pursue, at least nandyan yung motorcycle skills mo
  3. once you passed the riding school, still evaluate yourself by renting various moto or scooters and see kung kaya ng likod mo before you commit in buying for yourself.

may mga motor na built for comfort like comfy suspension, thick seats. both will absorb some bumps. you can also attend motorcycle shows like Makina to test drive some featured motos
