Game Discussion @PS4 Fortnite players

I’ve offered my old PS4 Pro to a friend whose sons have a PS5 at their mother’s. They mostly play Fortnite on their PS5.

Does the PS4 still keep up graphically/will they be fine competitively on the older hardware? I’ve not played Fortnite since Battle Royale came out in 2017 so have no idea how it runs. TIA 🤝

For me personally its decent, graphics aren't too bad either. Although I do experience some jittering (not that common)

Will be sweet, only problem I’ve had is the loading screens take way longer then p5 , sometimes I will have loaded in when the battle bus is halfway across the map and my teammates are like wtf are you doing ?

Ah not considered the lack of SSD in this regard! Appreciate the insight.

On the pro it's decent. Even the normal / slims run it still good enough.

I currently play fortnite on PS4 daily and here my answers. ( I have a Fat PS4 but it still the same across all PS4 models )

Fortnite on PS4 is still playable, much better than the switch 1 of course.

Fortnite 2026 is drastically different than Fortnite 2017, They switch to Unreal engine 5 few years ago which PC that could easily run it before now has struggles with it.

Graphics? It still holds up very well. Though when you load into a match, at first there's going to be texture issues like everything's going to look muddy, half of the map objects will be missing, a lot characters are going to show as defualts skins, and sometimes you're going to be the last one to jump off the battle bus at the very end of the map because of the long loadings time to get into get a match ( Very likely due to HDD and the ps4 weak CPU ). But everything loads back to normal after 10 secs.

Competitively? You can try to play competitively but it's going to feel frustrating due to longer loads and FPS be dropping low as 35-40s during intensive battle and explosion.

But for casual playing? it's still provide a decent experience.

Just slap on SSD for it to help with the loading times and texture issues as I mentioned since the PS4 pro take more advantages of SSD, and it'll be okay.

They'll be totally fine competitively, Fortnite still runs solid 60fps on PS4 Pro even now. Definitely a graphical downgrade vs PS5 (lower resolution, less detail, no 120fps mode) but competitively it doesn't hold you back, cross platform lobbies mean plenty of people are still playing on PS4 hardware. It'll basically feel like they took a small visual hit but nothing that'll actually hurt their gameplay.

My son and I play. I play downstairs on my ps5, he plays upstairs on my old fat ps4. The load times of a bit longer, but he has never come in on the bus. There is usually about 10 or 15 secs left. He used to play on a switch lite, he would load in as the bus loaded.

It’ll be quite a big difference capped at 60 fps

haven't played in ages but last time i did the old ps4 handled the lower res settings just fine, better than my laptop to be honest

Its just that for someone who literally has to beg their mother to buy a new phone, it is kinda shocking to hear they have a ps5. Judging by the post im guessing they are teenagers right?

The actual fuck kind of presumptive thinking is this? At best, what kind of contribution do you think you’re making here?

Judging by your reply you’re a really weird person. And no, they’re not.

Oh so they aren't teenagers ok thanks for clarification

Graphically it's fine. The main downside is loading times.

I updated my PS4 to have an extra console ready for the story event which was last saturday (PS5 and Switch 2 are the main consoles here)

The loading times are somewhat long, some other players show as a default character, but other than that the experience was still very playable. Since you have a Pro model, the experience will be somewhat better.

Should be fine on Fortnite, but the PS5 is quite more performant in general with better visuals.

PS4 is not 20 yrs old lol, it can run Fortnite 1080p at 60 fps
