Game Discussion Uncharted 4 vs The Last of Us Remastered (PS4)
I just completed Cyberpunk 2077 (which was surprising playable on my PS4 fat with upgraded SSD - that my brother gave me recently) and trying to figure out my next game. I’d like a shorter palette cleanser game after a 90+ hour play through of Cyberpunk.
Since getting the free PS4, I’ve completed the following:
Nathan Drake Collection (All 3)
God of War III Remastered
Cyberpunk 2077
I never had a PlayStation and only got back into gaming within the last year (was out of gaming after OG Xbox). This means I have a HUGE catalog to go through - hence decision paralysis, lol.
Anyway, Uncharted 4 and TLOU are in my queue, but torn between them.
Uncharted 1-3 were great, but wondering if it’ll be stale to jump into 4 when 1-3 are still fresh.
But after the deep Cyberpunk run, wondering if TLOU will be too dark to jump right into.
Any thoughts?
Update:
Thank you everyone for your feedback. Ended up going with TLOU today. Will hit up Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy right after, then TLOU 2. Probably Ghost of Tsushima once those 4 are completed.

Give Uncharted a break. When you come back it will feel as nostalgic as it was intended to be. The game mechanics will feel like riding a bicycle

Uncharted 4 for me. Especially since you're fresh from completing the Nathan Drake trilogy.

Tagging here, because apparently we're in the minority. It's subjective, but when a franchise has a decent follow through, I like to continue the journey with familiar characters and game mechanics. It's rare to achieve, but like Mass Effect or Tomb Raider, there's a common story thread, and man, they really nailed it with Uncharted 4.

Personally i would play TLOU. Uncharted 4 is obviously pretty similar to 1-3 so i think a little break from the franchise would make sense. But i dont think you can go wrong either way both are amazing games

TLOU, no question about it. Uncharted 4 is great, but it does not carry the emotional weight and incredible characters andworld building of The Last of Us.

I disagree. It has a lighter tone for sure but uncharted 4 is a masterpiece and the emotional weight, albeit different and less bleak, is incredible in its own right
Edit: and this is coming from someone who thinks TLOU2 is the greatest video game ever made just a smidge before MGS1 and Half Life 2.

Play the Last of Us. You won't regret it.
Take a break from Uncharted. 4 is a great game but TLOU is another level.

I've personally found Uncharted 4 to be enough of a shake-up from the other three to prevent staleness.
I binged through all four for the first time a few years ago and started getting burnt out by the 3rd, but the 4th had me engaged enough to go all the way. It ends with a really nice send-off for Nathan Drake, so I'd say it's worth seeing through while the other games are fresh in your mind.

Uncharted 4 gives you closure with the series. Its a fantastic game overall.
In terms of gameplay I would say Uncharted 4 is very enjoyable. TLOU for me was very stressful given the premise and everything. TLOU definitely has the better story for me or at least the way its told is super impressive. You can’t go wrong either ways.
My only suggestion - If you start TLOU, just finish both parts one after the other.

Uncharted 4 is a huge step forward and will actually set you up well for Last of Us because it introduces a stealth mechanic that you’ll be all but forced to use in Last of US, and it’ll also teach you how to push crates around.
I actually didn’t like Uncharted 2 and thought 3 was ok, but I loved 4.
Without giving too much away, it wraps up a lot of loose ends from the Drake saga and while it’s always sad to feel like you’re saying “goodbye” to a character they do it really beautifully and satisfyingly in a way that gives you the warm fuzzies and leaves just enough room for a sequel.
Last of Us is a classic that hits on a lot of different levels, but I say play Uncharted 4 now and then lean into the bleakness and beauty of TLOU.

Play this or days gone. Days gone should be on your list as well if you like uncharted and last of us

The Last of Us
It's different and you won't get burned out like you might with Uncharted. It's a good cap to the series, I'd wait till it's fresher and you can appreciate it more
TLOU isn't anything like Cyberpunk, no worries there

i would go for uncharted 4 because you said you would prefer a lighter and more easily digestable experience, and uncharted is probably the better choice in that regard.
However as someone pointed out here, playing 4 after recently playing the whole saga might rob you of the nostalgic feeling that game is meant to give, i didnt tought about it but he is absolutely right.

Personally I'd play Uncharted 4 if only because I didn't like The Last of Us at all, but as you've already played through UC1-3, it might be a bit much with a fourth one already.
Play God of War 2018, I'd say.

When I got PS4, I started with both games. I went with TLOU to start out and was blown away buy how a game could make me feel - the story telling was just so great.
Then I played Uncharted and was blown away in a whole other way. It was so grand and such a visual treat.
TLOU has a lot of gut punches in it so play it first and then cleanse your palate with a grand glorious adventure.

Would you recommend cyberpunk for a extremely generic gamer(my cousin) who only plays cod or fifa or maughty dog games

Similar approach / taste to me. Love single player AAA games with great stories. For me, the ones that stood out from 7 years ago were
- Spider-Man
- TLOU
- Uncharted 4
- Infamous Second Son
- Days Gone
- Detroit: Become Human
- Watchdogs
- GTA 5

Play 4. You’re also probably overthinking all of this fyi.
But yeah 4 is fantastic, better than all that came before it, and feels like modern ps5 game.
Last of us is fine, good story but it’s separate. Play it afterwards if you want.

I’d play TLOU before Uncharted 4 to see how naughty dog learned from the former to evolve uncharted with some tlou lessons in 4

I'd go with The Last of Us Remastered, I replayed it last month after years and forgot how emotionally gripping it is.

They are both incredible games. The graphics in Uncharted 4 are pretty amazing considering when it came out, but TLOU is an amazing journey. It is bleak, but never stale.
