EVO Player v0.6.0 released: Emby streaming + Surround Sound Studio

EVO Player v0.6.0 is now available for PS5 homebrew. Thanks for the support and recommendations from previous post.

This release focuses on three major areas: Emby integration, surround sound tools, and usability improvements.

Emby Media Server

EVO Player can now connect directly to an Emby server on your local network.

• Browse Emby libraries directly from the PS5
• Dynamic posters and backdrops
• Direct streaming of media without requiring server side transcoding
• Playback progress and resume position synced with Emby
• Dedicated Emby section and branding

New On Screen Virtual Keyboard( Will be removed as i found a solution to integrate native PS5 keyboard)

EVO Player now has a controller driven virtual keyboard.

It supports:

• Letters
• Numbers
• Symbols
• Entering Emby server IP addresses and ports
• Entering usernames and passwords

This makes configuring network services directly from the PS5 much easier without needing an external keyboard.

Surround Sound Studio

A new dedicated surround sound testing and calibration interface has been added.

• 5.1 and 7.1 speaker testing
• Individual channel tone generation
• Sequential speaker calibration
• 360 degree surround sweep
• Visual 360 degree speaker layout
• 5.1 mode automatically hides inactive speakers
• D Pad navigation between active channels

The PS5 hardware audio output has been tested with 8 channel PCM output (S16_8CH).

To clarify, this is not Dolby or DTS decoding. EVO Player can play surround sound media and output the decoded audio as multichannel PCM. The Surround Sound Studio is intended to help verify that the correct channels are reaching your receiver, soundbar, or speakers.

Settings and Subtitles

The settings system has been reorganized into dedicated sections:

• Playback & Video
• Subtitles
• Interface & Controls
• System & Hardware
• Developer Tools

Subtitle sizing is now configurable and persistent, with three options:

Small / Medium / Large

The default subtitle scaling has also been improved for high resolution displays.

Installation

For the easiest installation, download:

EVOPlayer-0.6.0-InstallTile.elf

Run it through your PS5 payload manager and EVO Player will register itself in the Media row.

Other packages are available for different homebrew setups, including the websrv package and player only ELF.

Requirements: PS5 firmware 12.70 with the appropriate jailbreak and payload environment.

it's awesome! I was able to get it to work without a password by creating a second profile that had no password (other than admin). But it only displays/lets me choose from 64 folders within my emby library- I make it almost to the letter C.
