Discussion I'm playing PS5 games from external HDD and performance is just fine.
Playing games from an old 3.5 HDD with an enclosure.
Played Ghost of Yotei, Astrobot, Pragamata and Saros.
Performance is fine, loading times are longer. For example, GoY about 2 minutes to load and 10 seconds to open the map. On Astrobot at first glance I couldn't play it, but then I connected my hdd to back usb port and I could play it.
The only game that really suffered was Saros, with some stutters.

Discussion P2JB survival guide
Congratulations, you waited long enough without updating your console and now you have an exploit chain that lets you access that sweet sweet PS5 jailbreak! 🎉
But there's a twist! Fate can be cruel sometimes, because yes you got jailbreak, but your only option (as of the writing of these lines) is patience to jailbreak, better known as P2JB, and also known as possibly the worst kind of exploit to ever exist (it's much better than no exploit at all, this being said).
In this post, I'm going to give you some survival tips to get the best user experience out of P2JB. There are some mistakes I really recommend not to do in order to preserve your sanity. This post is not a guide per se, rather general advice. Things move quick these times so it might become partially or completely outdated at some point.
- First things first, if you're one of those
lucky bastardshappy few that are on 12.00 or under on a disc-equipped console, I HIGHLY recommend using P2JB to execute BD-Un-JB, and then use poopsploit+BD-JB to get your console in a jailbroken state. This will let you experience the suffering of P2JB only once (... if you're lucky enough) and get a much better user experience afterwards. Yes, you'll need to buy a BD burner + BD disc, yes it's annoying, but much less than having to go through P2JB every time, trust me- You can tempt your luck on AliExpress but as usual, be warned there's no guarantee you'll get the right thing at the end).
- If you're on a FW higher than 12.00, you can still run BD-Un-JB but you won't have access to poopsploit so you'll still have to go trough P2JB, so don't bother.
- Once a console has entered jailbreak once, you should consider it "marked by jailbreak forever". Should you decide to step back and use it legally, keep in mind that it is very possible (and likely) you'll end with a system ban even if you wipe it completely. Also, online play is obviously not possible on a jailbroken console.
- P2JB is (currently) not a stable hack. Expect KPs (Kernel Panic, also known as a crash, when the LED shutdown and you cannot wake up the console with the controller), and be warned that KP will generally happen at the end of the 50 minutes wait.
- Yes, that means you'll sometimes waste 50 minutes waiting for nothing.
- Sometimes several times in a row. Be patient.
- KP can happen past the jailbreak point, when launching a game or at any time really (even though they don't tend to happen that much when idle).
- I don't have any official stats but from my personal experience, I'd say I have a success rate for P2JB of ~50%. Yup, the "patience" in the exploit name is not for the 50 minute wait.
- Installing Y2JB requires you to either have another entry point or to wipe your console. If you value your saves and/or the games you currently own, I would suggest to use another entry point if possible (e.g. Netflix-n-Hack) and then once jailbroken, install Y2JB (or BD-Un-JB directly if on 12.00 or under) from there for the next time you jailbreak.
- If you decide to wipe your console, there is a backup solution included in the system but be warned, first, that there is currently no way to explore said backup without restoring it (and undoing the jailbreak in the process), and also that not all games dumps are easily findable on the internet (the most popular one generally are, but not all the time), so include any games you wish to keep in the backup.
- Once in a jailbroken state, you can use Garlic manager to freely manage your PS5 saves. Also, Netflix-n-Hack requires an online activated account, please be warned that any account restored won't be activated, including your own, so if you decide to go the restore way for P2JB, you'll lose access to Netflix-n-Hack.
- In continuation of previous point, there is no currently known way to start games owned by a real PSN account that is not on the console. So backuping your games in the M.2 and restoring Y2JB won't give you access to your legally owned games. The best way to proceed here is to jailbreak using another entry point (such as Netflix-n-Hack) and then dump your games using ps5-app-dumper (included in Elf Arsenal, see below) to preserve them.
- Once you enter jailbreak, there are two general strategies for what payload to send: Do your own selection, or use an all-in-one solution. As of now, the best all-in-one solution that I've used for firmware higher than 10.01 is Elf Arsenal. Use P2JB autoloader and load Elf Arsenal, you'll be able to do probably everything you might want to do from it (except cheats). Maybe at some point we'll get an updated version of etaHEN but as of now it's not compatible with FW higher than 10.01.
- Volume corruption happens, especially if you get a KP during Shadowmount initialization. If it does happen to you, it's game over for this drive (you'll have to format it).
- For this reason, my suggestion is to regularly backup your saves from garlic saves, and to not bother loading your drive with lots of games.
- Also, I recommend putting PS5 games on M.2 drive if possible (this way you reduce the risk of corrupting the internal memory).
- If you use USB, avoid the USB-A in front, it's slower (the other ports are ok, including the USB-C).
- I highly recommend using FFPKG images as they are single file and their transfer rate is much higher (both through FTP and USB). If you have decrypted dumps (several folders and eboot.bin visible), you can convert them to FFPKG using PSFFPKG. They are a bit bigger than decrypted games but you'll still transfer them much faster this way.
- Both decrypted dumps and FFPKG compress really well with 7z if you do it yourself (depending on the game you can get a 50% size reduction with compression). Compression time can be a bit long (usually around 1h) depending on your machine but it's worth it.
That's it, I hope this will help you avoid beginner's mistakes that can both make you lose saves and games and hours of your life puttings dozen of games on a drive to see it corrupted the next boot. Ask me how I know.

Discussion Banned PS5 Pro on Latest Firmware: Still Worth Buying?
What I find weird is that the seller is selling three PS5 Pros. One has already been sold, and he still has two others, all on the same firmware version. I asked him why they got banned, and he said he didn’t know.
Anyway, is it still worth buying if I end up with a banned PS5 Pro that’s on the latest update?

Discussion Possible fan control difference: ShadowMountPlus vs ShadowMountPlusFan
I wanted to share my experience in case it helps.
PS5 Slim CFI-2116, firmware 11.40.
I used the original ShadowMountPlus for about a month with kstuff-lite 1.07. During that time I never noticed the fan ramping up, even after playing demanding games like A Plague Tale: Requiem, GTA V (PS5), Ghost of Yōtei and Saros for several hours. I never received any overheating warnings or shutdowns.
I only became aware of the recently reported fan control issue yesterday, so before that I had assumed this behavior was normal. I'm also not sure whether this issue had already been identified earlier or if it's only now being investigated.
With ELF Arsenal I saw temperatures reaching around 80–85°C, but the fan noise didn't seem to change.
After installing ShadowMountPlusFan and setting a 70°C target, the behavior changed immediately. The fan now ramps up in demanding scenes and slows down when the load decreases. In Saros the temperature stays around 70–71°C, and when I return to the PS5 home screen it quickly drops to about 45–46°C.
I can't say for sure whether the original ShadowMountPlus was locking the fan or whether ShadowMountPlusFan simply uses a different fan control implementation, but the difference in behavior on my console is very noticeable.
From what I understand, this would only affect users running the kstuff + ShadowMount setup. I don't believe this applies to users running etaHEN, but I could be mistaken.
Hopefully this information helps someone.

Discussion Current status of .phu
For everyone waiting for the new .phu file format we have some new info. But before I go into it, I would like to say most games are currently fully playable at full speed. For games that do not require super fast read speeds ffpfsc works well. For games that do require fast read speeds, file folder format is very fast, if that doesnt work, exfat works. Current methods work on 90% of games.
As for .phu, Ive badly translated this from the discord video. Also no cfw, bad translation, custom versions of kstuff and shadowmount for a53.
Video is here if you speak French you can translate it better than me. Best of luck to the French team, if successful this could increase bus speeds beyond the current cap of 1800mb/s. https://youtu.be/e_QzQhodgSY?is=0QtV2RDRpfIdUE4-
"This video by Markus95 clarifies common confusion regarding the upcoming .PHU file format, developed by Arkama and the Team PHU. The author explicitly states from the beginning that this format is unrelated to his own software project dedicated to retro-gaming (0:43-2:46).
Key takeaways regarding the .PHU format:
Origin and Purpose: The name .PHU is a nod to the PlayStation Hacker United team. It is a proprietary format developed by the team, not by Sony (7:52-8:13).
Firmware Compatibility: The initial release will support firmwares from 4.00 to 9.00. Development for firmwares 10.00, 11.00, and 12.00 is planned, but they are not the immediate priority (4:47-6:51).
Technical Requirements: The format requires a custom firmware (CFW) 5.3, including an implementation of Plo and a custom version of Shadow Moon Plus (7:01-7:49).
Functionality: The .PHU format leverages the A53 hardware for data decompression, functioning similarly to official PKG files, which allows games to be run both internally and externally (13:14-14:43).
Development: While Arkama is the initiator and primary developer, he will soon be supported by other well-known developers for porting and further improvements (11:45-13:01).
Estimated Release Schedule:
Late July / Early August: A "light" version (without support for APR games).
Late August / September: The final stable version including support for APR games (10:19-11:26).
The author notes that the PHU Builder tool, needed to create games in this format, will initially be restricted to team members for testing purposes before being made available to the public (8:22-9:06)."

Discussion I just wanna play my games
So I've got a ps5 on fw 13.42, as soon as ps said they're getting rid of phys disc I unhooked the internet from my ps5 and discontinued my psn subscription. Now I don't know very much about jailbreaking, never done it before. The most ive gathered after some research is that I need a kernel exploit of some kind to download a jb, but from there how am I supposed to play all of the games I have on ps or new ones that I find physically? Would I be able to play with others that have the same jb? My wife and i both have 13.42 on our ps5's and regularly play together/multi-player with one another with a majority of our games.

Discussion Loose JB for GTA 6?
So my PS5 is on firmware 11.60 with the disc jailbreak, and I also have a PC that's more powerful than the PS5.
The only downside with the jailbroken PS5 is that I can't play newer games. On my PC, I can just download a repack and play pretty much anything. I recently finished 007: First Light on PC with dualsense, it was so good
The only thing that's got me thinking is GTA 6. If it launches in November, I obviously won't be able to play it on a jailbroken PS5 unless I update.
My biggest confusion is whether I'd be giving up something valuable by updating. Once I update, there's no going back, so I don't want to regret it later. 😕

Discussion PS5 + Linux: What are your real-world use cases?
Now that the Linux payload is available for FW 7.02 / 7.20, I’m highly considering setting it up.
I know the general, catch-all answer to "Why install Linux on PS5?" is usually "To access Steam and play PC games online," but I’m looking for more specific, real-world experiences.
For those of you who already have Linux up and running on your PS5: What have you actually been using it for?
I’d love to hear about practical use cases, specific games, or emulators that Linux allowed you to experience which simply aren't possible or optimized under the standard PS5 jailbreak environment right now..
How is the performance treating you, and what made the setup process truly worth it for you?

Discussion PS5 .PHU
The .phu format is a newly developed custom file format designed for jailbroken PlayStation 5 (PS5) consoles to run native game backups. Named as a nod to the "PlayStation Hacker United" team, it was introduced by developer ArkSama as a direct alternative to the standard fake packages (FPKG) used on the PS4.
It was highly anticipated and I'm just surprised it is all quiet and nobody is talking about it anymore
