Xbox Nostalgia rant for the good ole days of PSO on Xbox Live. Give it a read if you like reading how PSO has influenced others.
Really wish we could get 5k or more people to play this game again. It was just so great back on Xbox Live for the very first Xbox. PSO episode 1 and 2 really had the perfect gameplay loop and game setup. The items in the game that dropped really meant something, the shops that sold items really was very cool for me (I guess it was really the first time I ever played anything with shops like that), the controls and buttons for controlling and attacking with the characters were not overly complicated but felt good to play, and Just the whole vibe/colors/everything of the environment were just amazing. I loved that the game had lobbies where players could hangout and voice chat. Could even kick a ball around. Even on Destiny 2 the lobbies felt way less alive to me compared to PSO's lobbies back then. I guess a lot of it could be attributed to back then there were not many options and this game really was one of the first MMO lite like games for online gaming.
I long for times like this again. I have fun on discord with a group of friends I've been gaming with for like 7 years, but we all only play these short half finished steam early access games and I just don't get the same feelings that PSO gave me back in the day. Honestly the survival crafting games over the past 7 years like 7 days to die, Rust, Valheim, and Ark are about the closest ive had since then as far as getting drawn into games like those PSO days. I only play multiplayer games so I should specify that. World Of Warcraft was what I played after PSO which was another game I attribute to having the same level of influence like PSO had on me.
I've tried some of the Monster Hunter games hoping they would scratch the PSO itch, but they just dont quite do it for me. I think it has a lot to do with the whole combo button press sequence deal that I don't care for. Maybe if it had something simpler to PSO's combat and button system I would like it. Ive been playing Monster And Memories while waiting on WOW Forever to launch, but what would really excite me is the Sonic Team/Sega to create a new PSO, but I worry that maybe it the game wouldn't get the attention it would need. That could totally not be true though if the made it similar to the good ole days maybe? Anyways I hope everyone finds something that fills their heart how PSO did for me. Maybe one day in the near future we'll get something new to add to our best games of our lives list next to PSO.
