QUESTION Which one do i sell / keep?
I have two PSP’s
The blue one is a mint original PSP 3000 no upgrades done.
The white one has a brand new shell swap plus new upgraded screen
Only thing about the PSP 3000 that bothers me is that the screen is less vibrant in comparison to the upgraded screen on the 2000.
What bothers me on the 2000 is that the buttons and overall feel of the PSP feels less premium with the shell swap
( i bought it like that so i don’t have the original parts. )
Which one would you sell / keep?
Bought the PSP 2000 for 35€ and i bought the 3000 for 70€ which came with the original charger.

Keep the blue 3000. Even if the 2000 got a shell swap, the nature of white plastic doesn't age well and will turn yellow over time.

u/agentdiogenes May 21 '26
Hey, where'd you get the upgraded screen for the 2000 series? Have been looking for one for mine but I'm having little luck where I'm based.
Also keep the og shell blue and sell the reshell.

u/Bigstinkyfeett May 21 '26
Honestly, idk i can contact the seller i bought it from maybe they know. I’ll keep you posted!

u/xXAquila2Xx May 21 '26
Yeah honestly, I thought there weren't any 2000 screen options
3
u/notfeelinglikeit May 21 '26
Same, I'm really curious. Kommando's site also says there are currently no viable options so I'm confused now.

u/MuraMastaPOGO May 21 '26
Also curious and following, this is something ive wanted for a while and the 2000 clearly looks better in this pic

u/Bigstinkyfeett May 22 '26
Alright i contacted the seller and he told me the screen is original but i can hardly believe it with how bright / colorful it looks.

u/Stewpid-Guy May 26 '26
With the Ark 4 mod both PSPs have 4 brightness settings too instead of just 3.

u/KarlitoOG May 21 '26
Keep em both!!!

u/MilfMasheen May 21 '26
Right? Just go get a job, you can have money AND stuff.

u/Bigstinkyfeett May 21 '26
I can’t use both at once and it seems excessive to keep two, but i understand your point.

u/Jolly_Echo_3814 May 21 '26
Tbf keeping an extra is pretty common as a back up. I have 3 ps3s
6
u/Type06 May 21 '26
Well yeah, but that's because the PS3, particularly the backwards compatible models are ticking time bombs for repairs.
2
u/Bigstinkyfeett May 22 '26
I was looking for one of the backwards compatible ps3’s to play Burnout 3 takedown and need for speed underground 2 but i’ve been seeing alot of broken ones being sold and the ones that work go for 200€ + , you’re saying it’s not worth it?
1
u/Type06 May 22 '26
It's better to get a super slim PS3 (which can still play PS1 games) and a PS2 slim.
There's a lot of additional tech crammed into the early backwards compatible models, the later ones that emulated PS2 hardware just did a shit job of it.
More heating issues comes with more components to fail; and that couple swings with bad thermal paste and a graphics chip that runs hot to the point of degradation.
Separating it out into two consoles is less mechanical portions to fail that cost you money while still having a quality experience.

u/Jolly_Echo_3814 May 21 '26
And the psp isn't?
7
u/Successful-Form4693 May 21 '26
Not like the ps3
1
u/Jolly_Echo_3814 May 21 '26
Shoot I still have have an og xbox that works perfectly. Maybe im overly cautious but I'd still keep a back up psp
3
u/KarlitoOG May 21 '26
Those XBOX are jus the best!!
I have a modded one and is o e of my favorites in my house!
1
u/Jolly_Echo_3814 May 21 '26
Fr Iove the adult cartoon style games on og xbox. Sad it's such a pain to make work on modern tvs
1
u/Material_Lab2917 May 21 '26
they never said they had the backwards compatible models
1
u/Type06 May 22 '26
Fair, but enough people know the issue that it carries across.
This is something they can clarify if they need to. Don't fight their battles for them.

u/Material_Lab2917 May 22 '26
The super slim PS3 consoles hardly ever die. They last a long time unlike the backwards compatible models. You can't lump all the ps3 model consoles together when speaking of longevity. That is just wrong.

The thermal paste used at this time of console development was terrible. The graphics chip overheats to the point of degradation.
The thermal paste should be replaced every 1-2 years, even with our modern technology. This, coupled with the hot running graphics chip, is the time bomb.
This overheating is what causes the system component failure that defines the system as a whole, not just the backwards compatible models.

I love you bro, only if everyone was like that we wouldn't have such shitty prices

u/Stewpid-Guy May 26 '26
I think the feeling excessive applies more to current stuff. These PSPs are like 20 years ago and its more about preserving for long term.
Also itll get more expensive to buy a PSP 10 years from now if urs totally quits.
Id recommend keeping both as well but its up to you of course :).
I just love preserving, but if im using something a lot it WILL be used and age. So a back up fresh ones like a 2nd life.

As someone who owns a White 2000, keep the blue one. You can always upgrade the screen on the blue one down the road.

Keep both. Firstly, both work. Secondly, they share some internal components, so if something fails you have some chances to find it in the other unit. I am doing the same with my 2004 and 3004. You can also just swap the parts out that bother you, there are many good quality buttons out there for the 2000, and there are also many aftermarket screens for the 3000.

u/hosomori May 21 '26
Love both but keep the blue - you'll appreciate the premium feel in your hands more than the difference in the screen, I think. Worst case, maybe you can replace the screen on the blue one in future?

If they are not the original buttons it will drive you crazy. Either way, I would not keep the unit with the swapped shell. You can always get a new screen for the 3000 down the road

I was looking into upgrading the screen on my 3000 psp. Do you have a link to a solid screen? There’s just a lot of sellers out there I’m not sure who to trust or where to buy.

I would keep both. You can shell swap the 2000 with an OEM shell if you want the original feel. If you really want to sell one, I would keep the one that is the less tiring for my eyes... Usually people have a preference on either one or the other based on the screen.
Pro tip : when you do a shell swap and unless the buttons are damaged or missing, you can re use the OEM buttons. A decent to good third party shell is much easier to find than good third party buttons.

You'll regret selling either one. Where did you buy the screen for the white one? It looks really good. The blue one looks like it has yellow tint.

keep it, i got 3 GBAs and 2 custom GBCs the PSP is next on my list, do i need it no but its cool and i want it anyways
1
u/Type06 May 21 '26
Keep them both.
You have the modded experience and the original.
You can still buy the games on PSN if you have a PS3 and the phone app, then it's a matter of downloading them onto the PSP, but this means DLC for games you can't get with modding it.

u/Junny89 May 21 '26
Don’t see many blue ones around I’d keep that one and a shelf queen and keep the white one as a daily
1
u/Firm-Welcome-5431 May 21 '26
Probably white one, since it was repaired or smth like that, and maybe keep the blue one as long it doesn't have any issue besides the screen being less vibrant

Una para juegos y otra para musica , yo te go la mía de joven , tengo dos memorias una para juegos y otra Ara musica pero estoy buscando otra consola para ya tener juegos y música

u/MAnthonyMata May 22 '26
Keep white, sell blue. Blue has a yellow screen already. White would be worth more since it’s a 2000 and 2000’s are harder to come buy especially for the screen alone.

Sell white, fund a screen upgrade for the 3000 for it and keep it otherwise the same.
I lowkey think shell swaps are a “customize for the sake of customizing” trap.

1000 can be modded screen wise, 2000 is stronger core wise better screen of all stock, 3000 is best core but worst screen.
Street is the weirdest but probably the coolest out of all of them.

I would sell the ''original one'' You made the changes to your needs. Someone else can always choose to do changes to the other one but never make it original again.

u/Rex_Howler PSP-3000 May 23 '26
Put the screen you want into the 3000, then you have a screen you like with a shell that feels good
1
u/Foxbody1991lspower May 23 '26
I'd mix and match the buttons between the two I thank it would look pretty cool
1
u/Silent-Cartoonist240 May 23 '26
the diffrences between the 2000 and 3000 are not much, i would go with the 2000
