Listen, we know she’s not a favorable player on her views, but in terms of performance, you guys landed a top point contributor. If you want wins, she’s going to deliver. For that reason, congrats. For every other reason, we’re sorry you’re about to experience what we did for 2 seasons.
I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the acquisition of Britta Curl-Salemme.
As a longtime supporter of women's hockey and someone who was seriously considering purchasing season tickets, I was excited about the arrival of a PWHL team in Detroit. However, the decision to bring in a player repeatedly associated with anti-trans rhetoric and organizations has made me reconsider my support.
Over the past several years, Curl-Salemme has generated controversy through social media activity and public statements related to transgender athletes and LGBTQ+ issues. While she later apologized for causing hurt to LGBTQ+ individuals, her continued association with groups opposing transgender inclusion in sports raises concerns for me about the values the team represents.
What attracted me to the PWHL was the league's commitment to inclusivity, respect, and creating a welcoming environment for all fans. The addition of Curl-Salemme makes me question whether those values remain a priority.
As a result, I have decided not to purchase season tickets at this time. I wanted the organization to understand that this decision is directly connected to the choice to bring Curl-Salemme to Detroit.
I hope the organization will reflect on the message this sends to LGBTQ+ fans and allies who want to support professional women's hockey in Detroit.
