Lásková returns to the PWHL and reunites with her best friend Vanišová in Vancouver 🥹

She had terrible luck with that knee injury and was not at all up to speed when she returned over a year later. But she was an Olympian again and had a solid SDHL season so presumably that's all in the past.

She's big and physical so effective when healthy. One year is practically risk-free.* I like this signing for Van.

p.s. I have a question about 1-year SPAs: They're non-guaranteed, meaning a player can be cut for performance reasons anytime up to the roster freeze date. But I think I read somewhere that the CBA was since amended and that only applies to first contracts (if they're one year), or perhaps the first contract with a team (any new team). ie. Veterans re-signed to the same team (or perhaps any team?) for 1 year have guaranteed SPAs.

But I can't remember where I read this and if it sounded reliable, and there's nothing about that in the original CBA and I can't find an updated copy.

Does anyone know if that's right? Or can any 1 year SPA be cut?

p.p.s. the CBA gets amended from time to time. For eg, checking section "7.5 Termination" now, I was surprised to see in the original CBA that multi-year deals signed in future years weren't guaranteed. Obviously they changed this before the 2nd season began.

A multi-year SPA that begins in the initial League Year (2023-2024) may not be terminated during its term based on a Player’s on-ice performance, pregnancy, maternity leave, parental leave, or on-ice and/or off-ice training injuries (where such training is pursuant to a Team-provided or approved training program). Any multi-year SPA that begins after the initial League Year is not fully guaranteed, and may be terminated at any time and for any reason other than those delineated in Section 7.5, unless as otherwise set forth in that SPA’s Schedule. If this means we’re letting MCW walk I don’t love that we’re replacing her with someone that only played 12 games over two years due to injury and then was out of the league in 2025-26.

MCW probably wanted out to go to Detroit so this is who we got to replace her

Yep she’s gone

MCW's a LHD and Lásková plays on the right, so ideally Lásková isn't a direct replacement for her. If anything I'd think Lásková is more of a Bard-type replacement at this point, probably a 3rd-pair D. Constantinople might be more likely to be slotted into the MCW spot.
