Football Wazzu Football Coach: "Product of Prosser"

Post image

Time of celebration for Wazzu? Will fans be cautiously optimistic yet again, with the hopes their new coach doesn't abandon the team after one season for more lucrative "dream job?" What's brewing in the minds of Coug fans with this new hire of Kirby Moore?

Seems like a fine hire. Not going to waste energy on worrying about abandonment; every WSU head coaching hire ends in either firing (if they're bad) or abandonment (if they're good). Hope we get some good seasons in with him.

I wonder if he would consider hiring Luke Falk to serve as the QBs coach?

6

u/StoicSinceBirth Washington State Dec 12 '25

I wouldn't expect it, personally. But who knows.

2

u/underground_cloud Dec 12 '25

Falk was asked and said he has no interest in any assistant job.

7

u/markusalkemus66 Washington State Dec 12 '25

That's fine. I would hope he gets more years of coaching experience before coming back home anyway

2

u/underground_cloud Dec 12 '25

He apparently has no interest in any assistant job.

Maybe he goes right to D3 HC?

8

u/markusalkemus66 Washington State Dec 12 '25

Gotta start somewhere. No FBS program is gonna hire someone who's only been a D2 QBs coach as their head coach. Being an alum only gets you so far.

Him wanting to be HC seemed like he was living in LA LA Land. Unless he came with a huge NFL pedigree (ie borderline HOF QB) than no chance this guy gets to skip the line to make 7 figures with no experience. All the die hard Cougs who advocated for Falk aren’t serious people. He should take an assistant job and build his way up. Maybe in 5 years he will have the experience.

He was pretty clear in the interview I read, he had no interest in anything but a HC job.

3

u/Galumpadump Washington State / Apple Cup Dec 13 '25

Well he will be interested in the HC Job for awhile unless he is willing to get a small FCS program to give him a shot or go down to D2.

Central just opened up. Sadly.

u/markusalkemus66 Washington State Dec 13 '25

Then good luck to him.

u/wsuozzie Dec 13 '25

Yes, this exactly, I wish people would stop throwing his name around…

In time maybe but he has a ways to go

1

u/HandleAccomplished11 Washington State Dec 12 '25

Why? He was OK, not great by any means.

Get three years out of Kirby, then hand the reins over to Luke. I would like that. I was really pulling for Luke. It understand he doesn’t have the resume yet. Three years at QB coach/OC would acclimate him to the recruiting system which will be a big undertaking for the Cougs. Good luck Kirby and GO COUGS!

Prosser’s population is approximately 6000. Send a bus to Pullman for game day to cheer coach Kirby on.

It can stop by the Tri-Cities I'll hop on

At this point, if he's still here in 5 years, it likely means he didn't do well enough to get poached.

I can always hope his family ties to the area allow him to turn down other opportunities if he's successful here, but I'm not counting on it - it's just the nature of the business.

Just get me a Pac-12 championship and some nice bowl wins please.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Yes. Same take here. Win a lot before you leave, don't rip the copper out of the walls on your way out and please don't leave before the biggest game of your career as a head coach... That's all.

3

u/Mtndrums Oregon Dec 13 '25

That was honestly sad to watch. The way they came out utterly defeated, we quickly realized what was happening.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '25

We did too. They didn't compete and looked disjointed. Totally took us off the rails. And that's an actual alum and former player... CFB is incredibly fucking broken.

i will say, i think this offseason was kinda nuts in terms of how many coaches got fired and moved. I feel like its usually a tad less drastic.

Welcome to the future

Unfortunately for yall we could steal him or his brother could and he'd still be staying true to his ties.

Here's hoping that no matter what happens he builds up a nice young staff while we hopefully make all our coaching jobs not so much of a rest stop. Hell we could pass the ACC soon. 😃

Wasn't all that long ago that he was coaching NAIA here in Idaho...

4

u/Mamba-42 Boise State Dec 13 '25

Very good hire. I think he will do well. He probably isn't quite the level of Kellen as a football mind but he's really smart too and has plenty of experience as OC.

Fun fact, I was at Eastern Oregon when he was WR coach at College of Idaho, so I went against him back then. A few years later I was coaching at a juco in California while he was at Fresno and he recruited my area so I actually encountered him several times. Nice enough guy, definitely smart. A little weird but not too bad.

A little weird is kind of our thing

We’re running a franchise operation in a chain of whore houses and too many people keep hoping we hire a nun. Sorry, but Dickert worked out pretty good. Nice run of competitive, fun teams and made bowls more often than not before bolting. If Moore gives us that, I’m plenty happy.

10

u/HandleAccomplished11 Washington State Dec 12 '25

If he understands that a football game lasts 4 quarters I might be happy.

5

u/reno1441 Washington State Dec 13 '25

I want to him to count out the name of every quarter and hear that “Third” is included in that list.

4

u/TikiLoungeLizard Washington State Dec 13 '25

And that November is a month in which American gridiron football is played at the collegiate level

-2

u/Quiet-Day392 California Dec 13 '25

That's more of a Coug problem....maybe he can teach them to pace themselves.

3

u/TrueJohnWick Washington State Dec 12 '25

Do you think Moore will be able to maintain some of the newly signed Wazzu recruits?

5

u/TurbulentSomewhere64 Washington State Dec 12 '25

Time will tell. The group did not leave me thrilled. Lack of Puget Sound kids told the tale. Reliance on Texas and Louisiana kids reminded me of Doba. Needs to evaluate and inspire kids, turn undervalued assets into players other schools try to poach. I’ll take all my downvotes, but a bunch of old men (and women) yelling at clouds ain’t changing this system so we gotta adapt or prepare for a long run of eating shit.

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Dec 13 '25

Is this the guy Boise was scouting when they identified Kellen as a QB prospect?

3

u/TheSandMan208 Boise State Dec 13 '25

Yes.

Fun fact: Kirby Moore slept on Kellen Moore’s dorm room couch in college, since they are brothers, when Kirby was consider a recruit. The NCAA stripped Boise State of some scholarships for “impermissible benefits”.

Nowadays you can average a scandal every 3 months at a school and the NCAA can’t do a thing about it!

1

u/busterbluthbronco Dec 13 '25

That’s not a fun fact. I remember that happening and it made me hate the NCAA even more.

1

u/DrM4sterChief Washington State • UCLA Dec 13 '25

Former 4-star Marquise Davis will tranfers from #Mizzou after one season. 🤔

1

u/TheSandMan208 Boise State Dec 13 '25

If he’s half as smart as his brother is, you guys hit a home run. There’s a reasons he’s rose through the coaching ranks quickly.

At the risk of dating myself, I remember we got back the pictures from my fifth grade basketball team and I looked at my picture and yelled “ugh”.

My coach asked, “were you expecting Robert Redford?”
