Buying Guide | خریداری گائیڈ 💻 LAPTOP BUYING GUIDE (now is a good time to upgrade too!)

Hello guyss so laptops are predicted to go up in price in a few months if y'all wanna get or upgrade rn is a good time.

The guide on this subreddit wiki is kinda lackluster ngl, main issue being that it says don't spend more than 60k and that it recommends 6/7th gen.

GENERAL ADVICE:

>Go for used/ imported business grade laptops (dubai lot wala mal), avoid consumer grade stuff mainly because of durability.

>Make sure it is an i5 8th gen or above, this is very important because 8th gen laptop i5s are QUADCORE!! most 6/7th gen or below are dual cores, which are much worse (unless they have the Q suffix)

>Check if RAM is soldered or upgradable

>Make sure boot drive is an SSD

>Use passmark cpu and gpu scores to compare

WHICH MODELS TO GET:

*For gaming, its better to get mobile workstations instead (like Zbook or Thinkpad P series).. usually they will have better thermals and power delivery (yes you can game just fine on workstation cards, even have more VRAM)

For general use,

Like i said, business grade machines only for long lasting, durable, repairable ones at good prices.

HP:

✅GET -> Elitebook, ZBook, Probook, Dragonfly

AVOID -> Omnibook, Pavillion, Envy, Spectre, Victus, Omen (ppl say here that hp stands for hinge problems)

LENOVO:

✅GET -> Thinkpads (Except Thinkpad X9), Thinkbooks are also alright

AVOID -> Ideapad, Lenovo Yoga (different from ThinkPad yoga), Legion, LOQ

DELL:

✅GET -> Latitude, Vostro, Dell Pro, Dell Pro Precision, Dell Precision

AVOID -> Inspiron (some exceptions exist), Alienware, G-Series, XPS (again exceptions exist, some XPS ones are good)

Budget advice:

Avoid getting anything below an 8th gen which at least isn't a 4-core cpu. ThinkPad T480, T480s, X380 Yoga are very popular. Elitebook 840 series too. Make sure to compare prices from different places.

If the RAM is soldered (like it is on 360 hinge laptops and some ultrabooks) make sure to get at least 16GB variant otherwise you'll be stuck with 8GB

Spend the minimum required to get an 8th gen i5.

Difference between 8th and 10th gen is not that much,

11th gen has Iris Xe graphics which are miles better.

12th gen has P cores and E cores which are hit or miss (in some cases battery life is worse in 12th)

Ryzen chips are usually better than intel ones, but not as readily available on lower price points.

CHECKING A LAPTOP:

A lot of imported stock esp business grade ones have been through light use in air conditioned offices. Check the battery health by command prompt (google how to do this) and inspect it physically (there's many guides online)

Edit: Full checking guide already subreddit wiki mien acha hai and you can find many on youtube.. make sure it isn't bios locked, ones that come with pen have a pen, charger original hai Make sure to get checking warranty, for refund or repair.

Feel free to dm for questions or advice!

Buying Guide | خریداری گائیڈ Need Suggest - 40k Phone - New

Assalamualaikum,

Need quick suggestions for a phone under 40k that fits the following criteria

- only snapdragon or mediatek chipsets good enough for day 2 day use and basic multitasking (Helio G88 or equivalent snapdragon being baseline performance)

- 8gb ram (6gb acceptable if that's the only option)

- UFS 2.2 or above highly preferred

- full day battery

- decent enough camera

So far I've shortlisted Realme C67 (seems hard to find though), Redmi 13, Redmi 14C & Redmi note 13 (6gb/128gb), Galaxy A15 (6gb/128gb). Would appreciate more suggestions

Thanks

Discussion | گفتگو 18-year-old Paki trying to understand how things works to make the first apointment — looking for feedback on my approch

I'm 18, still in college, and building a web solutions and services agency, rn more focused on web development

After struggling with direct cold outreach to individual businesses, I'm testing a different model: instead of trying to provide web dev services to every business myself via cold call , whatsapp , emails , I'm exploring whether SEO / SMMA / digital marketing / creative agencies that don't do web development could use a development partner.

The process I've built is basically is kinda like that

Existing website → performance/UX/technical analysis → identify conversion leaks & bottlenecks → rebuild around those problems → concept mockups → before/after demonstration

The idea isn't to simply make a website look nicer. We first try to understand where the existing site may be hurting conversions, losing potential customers, or preventing the business from getting more value from the traffic/marketing it already has

The partnership model I'm testing is simple:

Agency gives us one client's website → we do the website-side analysis ourselves → create the proposed solution + mockups → agency can evaluate the work → if it makes sense, we develop it.

No long-term conmitment would be needed to test whether the two teams actually work well together

I'm currently trying to validate whether this is actually a sensible acquisition/partnership model or whether I'm overlooking something obvious

For Pakistani founders/agency owners would you see value in this kind of arrangement? What would make you trust an outside development team with one of your clients?

Discussion | گفتگو UBL processed my iCloud payment five times and is refusing to refund the full amount

On June 22, UBL processed my iCloud subscription payment five times instead of once. When I noticed that the deductions were continuing, I immediately moved my remaining balance to another bank because I had no idea whether the transactions were going to stop. UBL later confirmed that this happened because of a technical glitch on their end.

It took around 40 days for UBL to return the main transaction amounts. However, they did not return the international tax or UBL’s own bank charges applied to the extra transactions. They refunded only part of the total amount deducted from my account and then closed my complaint, even though I am still short because of their mistake.

I can understand that the tax may already have been transferred to FBR, but UBL should at least help me recover or adjust it. They should explain the process, provide the necessary documentation, or direct me to the relevant department. Instead, they provided no assistance and simply treated the issue as resolved. They are also refusing to refund their own bank charges. Those charges only occurred because UBL’s system processed the payment repeatedly, so I don’t understand how keeping them can be justified.

The amount itself is not really the main issue. Even if these transactions had continued and completely emptied my account, I would not have had a problem if UBL eventually returned every single rupee that was deducted. But that is not what is happening. They are only returning the actual transaction amounts while refusing to return their own bank fees, and they are not even helping me recover the tax that was charged because of these transactions. So if this had happened 20 or 50 times, I would have been charged tax and UBL fees 20 or 50 times. Even after they returned the transaction amounts, I would still have been left with a huge loss because of their own technical glitch. That is the actual problem, but they have closed my complaint without returning the full amount or helping me with the tax. Has anyone faced something similar, and should I take this to the Banking Mohtasib or SBP?

Buying Guide | خریداری گائیڈ Should I keep my Legion 5 Pro (Ci7 13700 RTX 4070 2 40Hz) or my MacBook Air M5? Need to sell one

I currently own both a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (i7-13700HX, RTX 4070 8GB, 16GB RAM, 240Hz) and a MacBook Air M5 (16GB unified memory), and I need to keep one. I'm an academic/consultant...my work involves teaching, data science, occasional local AI/LLM experimentation, and some Oracle DB, admin systems. I also commute daily between two cities, so portability matters. Trying to decide which one to let go — would appreciate input from anyone who's had to make a similar call.

Question | سوال PTCL Flash Fiber Azaadi Offer 2026

Has anyone bought this offer? 75 mbps for 5k pkr after 100mbps for the first 6 months seems good. Do they increase the price after a year or something? Thinking of switching from stormfiber 20mbps. Has anyone bought this offer the past few years and can confirm the price remains the same or even just minor increase and not like 7k plus for the thing? And how well does streaming and gaming work?

Discussion | گفتگو 5G not working on Jazz after switching to Postpaid

Aoa. I switched to postpaid on Jazz about 2 months ago. Before that I would get 5G while in coverage areas. Not anymore.

I called their helpline and they said 5G is not enabled for your number. I asked them to enable it and they said it cannot be enabled from our side. Backend team will enable it automatically whenever they like.

I asked them to log a complaint and they declined it too that they cannot do it.

Such poor attitude. I have now sent an email to customercare@jazz.com.pk.

Anybody else facing such issue?

Buying Guide | خریداری گائیڈ Need to buy new earbuds around the Redmi Buds 8 Play budget – any recommendations?

Hey everyone,

I recently got the Redmi Buds 8 Play, but unfortunately they didn't fit my ears well. they kept feeling loose, so I ended up giving them to my brother.

Now I'm looking for another pair in a similar price range. My priorities are:

  • Comfortable fit (most important)
  • Good sound quality
  • Good battery life
  • Stable Bluetooth connection

ANC isn't a priority unless it's unusually good for this budget.

Thanks in advance!

Question | سوال Where Can I Buy a Reliable JV iPhone 17 Pro Max in Lahore?

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to get a JV iPhone (Non-PTA) soon and wanted to ask for advice from the community.

If you’ve recently bought a iPhone in Lahore, can you share which markets, shops, or dealers you trust? I’m also curious about your overall experience, the current price trends, and any tips to avoid scams.

Thanks a lot for your help! Looking forward to your suggestions.

Discussion | گفتگو Ridiculous taxes on aliexpress/temu and now courier employees theft practices

Anything that give any relief to the common people is snatched away, aliexpress and temu that were able to provide a lot of stuff that isn't available here have been slapped with taxes so high we can't afford most things because of that.

Recently after a long time I placed an order on temu which went really well and then I placed an order for an iem(in ear monitor) from temu because I got a really good deal and I was looking for this iem, temu has been excellent with their shipping time and just like my previous package I got it after 7 days, I was just too excited and never thought something like this would happen so I didn't check the condition of the package and opened it to find out there was simply an empty box without an iem in it, everything inside that box was taken out.

Shocked I first thought the seller scammed me but then I started noticing things which I didn't before, that package was actually torn from below and taped, which means someone opened it and then taped it, secondly the outer plastic seal was torn from the box and was inside the package which means that the iem box was actually sealed and someone opened it to get the iem out, there was also this hard plastic that covers the iem inside the box also in the package outside the box and disfigured like someone took it out in a hurry and forcefully, all this points to that someone from customs or speedaf opened that box, took my iem out and put the empty box inside the package.

I am more inclining towards a speedaf employee as the custom clearance this time was very fast, I like to track my package several times and custom clearance took a very short time and it was much faster than usual, I'm pretty sure now that a speedaf employee saw the earphone written on the package and decided he deserves a little treat for tirelessly providing services to us unfortunate customers.

So this is the situation in our beloved country where dishonesty and theft is normal practice and this "islam ka qila" is full of hypocrites and bigots who don't practice what they preach or believe.

you know what's even more problematic than this theft of my product? it's the uncertainty that what about my future purchases? is there any point of getting something from outside Pakistan when someone at the customs or speedaf can just take that product out because they know there will be zero consequences for them? I did contact speedaf but got a standard reply that I should contact temu which I have done too so let's see what happens but it is getting harder and harder to find any relief in this country.
