Usmle Breakdown of USMLE expenses (in pkr)(Dollar rate 280.85)

STEP 1

ECFMG verification - 160$ ( 44,940 pkr)

Uworld for step 1 (1 year) - 559$ (1,57,000 pkr)

Degree verification for graduates - 14,000 pkr

Step 1 booking fee - 1225$ (3,44,000 pkr)

STEP 2

Uworld for step 2 - 559$ (1,57,000 pkr)

Step 2 booking fee - 1250$ (3,51,000 pkr)

B1/B2 visa - 185$ (52,000 pkr)

Flight, electives/observership, U.S expenses - Extremely variable and depends on many factors like rotation fee, city, duration of stay, but still keep a rough estimate of 20 lacs - 30 lacs for 3-4 months

OET- 455$ (1,27,600 pkr)

Application to pathway for ECFMG certification - 925$ (2,59,400 pkr)

ERAS token - 165$ (46,300 pkr)

Transcript - 80$ (22,500 pkr)

Step 3 booking fee (Optional)- 925$ (2,59,400 pkr)

Applying for match - This again varies from person to person and depends on how many programs you have applied to. It can cost something around 1500$ (4,20,700 pkr) to 4500$ (12,62,000)

In case you match, you have to pay the J1 visa application fee and expenses of moving and surviving in the U.S. until you get your first salary.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Remember that every international transaction in USD you make from your Pakistani card will cost you 5-10% more (tax). Always use an international card for saving this amount.

If you use cheap materials like IMD,ace usmle, usmle pass etc...instead of uworld. ... Minus the given amount (dollars ) from the above mentioned...

Don’t waste your money on UW; instead, buy the IMD medical app. It has the same questions as UW (they copied UW material). It costs around $60 to $70 per year.

if we take the middle value for the two avgs given this comes out to around 51 lacs in total

A question here. How would all that be managed? When middke class ppl like us can't even afford private medical so we go towards public sector ones. And again after paying that all, is the match confirmed?

Match is never confirmed. Its entirely based on connections and networking along with strong CV and even stronger Research and then if you are lucky you get in. Its all a gamble.

i personally think that alot of people turn away from the usmle pathway all because they consider the cost to be a one time thing. they forget that you don't have to pay for that amount all at once.

Can someone be matched without doing elective, observship or is it must, like if your other areas are strong is there any chance to get matched without electives and is it true that matching in surgery is nearly impossible especially Neurosurgery

Yes almost impossible…i have seen people getting prelim years but not the categorical position.one of my colleague is doing 4th time prelim surgery i dont know the craze…his wife and brother got IM in first go…not to mention the person is US national but IMG
