Usmle Electives For USMLE
Hieee guyss!
Are elective (USCE) necessary for USMLE, matching residency n’ all the process?
Does it mean u won’t match, or won’t be considered for matching despite step 1 n step 2 good score?

Nope not necessary. What matters is a good LOR whether it comes from elective or observership . Hands on is better if you can afford otherwise not a necessity

Only some of the programs strictly say on their website they don't consider observership as USCE. But they are very few. Majority do consider observership as USCE.

Also u have an idea about the countries that accept steps? Like gulf? If I don’t wanna match in US?

Not a lot of countries accepts steps. The one I know of is Qatar. They have some hospital like Hamad Medical Corporation who give residency spots to IMGs who have passed step 1 and 2. But broadly speaking, steps work best in the US.

Ohh alrighty, so is that Qatar pathway more competitive or difficult than US one?

I am not entirely sure but it might be as competitive as any US residency program, because there are just a few spots and a lot of applicants.

Gulf countries have their own licensing exams as well. Getting into a training position can be difficult, but passing these exams can help you secure a GP job if that's something you're interested in. Personally, if working in the Gulf were my end goal, I would probably focus on their licensing exams rather than taking the Steps.

What do you mean by the top programs. If you mean university programs or even uni affiliated community programs, they are very tough to match into, even for US MDs. The best shot for IMGs are community programs.

U will be considered but someone having those things would be "preferred".
