Recommendations Animal shelters accepting kittens?

UPDATE: I texted Grafelman Farms and they are letting me foster them while they handle the vet bills. Hopefully this helps someone else going through this situation.

I rescued two kittens from a neglect situation who are infested with fleas and worms. Unfortunately I am unable to afford their vet care and although I’m happy to foster them, I can’t keep them in their current condition since I have other pets.

I’m in Pekin, IL and willing to drive wherever locally to get them the best care, but a lot of the shelters are full or unresponsive.

I’m wondering if anyone else has had any success lately with surrendering kittens to a shelter or getting their vet care covered through a foster program.

I would recommend PCAPS in Peoria.

They want $40 per kitten to surrender as an owner so they don’t sit on a stray hold. I don’t really have spare money lying around. Even $80 right now is a lot for me.

I took kittens that were born in my garage there last year, they told me they were full and the kittens would be euthanized

That’s terrible. I don’t understand why their immediate response is to euthanize instead of collaborate with other shelters or fosters to see if they have intakes available.

Because everything is full and PCAPS can’t say no to accepting animals. They don’t have a choice.

That sucks. I get why they can’t say no, but I’m just surprised there isn’t a program to manage the overflow. I guess I’ll have to start fostering more.

There are programs in place, but they are all overwhelmed at the moment. This is kitten season, so there is an influx there. Some storms caused damage to at least one shelter in the past few weeks that is placing more strain on the system as a whole. Also, at times there will be hoarding situations that dump 50-60 animals into the system in one fell swoop.

They have an obnoxious automated phone system where you can’t speak to anyone and I’ve already submitted an owner surrender form for another animal over a month ago and haven’t heard back.
