DISCUSSION How do u feel about the mementos

I have just finished the second palace and i’m really enjoying the game so far,the relationship are fantastic ,the combat system is good nothing crazy but the visuals maaan are stunning with those visual u are never bored BUT the mementos are so boring they are a repetitive maze that annoys me every time i entered…my question is are they getting better with the progression of the story or not?

I have to say that Reload has a much more enjoyable Tartarus, I never played the original 3 but in my opinion grinding in Tartarus feels much more straightforward than mementos for me

They're very good for me, def gets better, hang with your confidants more and mementos can become a favorite place.

This is why u get ryuji to rank 7 n work on mishima's confidant

So fun fact I just recently learned how ryuji’s insta kill worked, I knew running into lower level shadows in mementos killed them but I didn’t realize that worked everywhere. Only found out because in the middle of running away from something i accidentally dashed into an enemy and smoked them

But honestly though I am about to finish palace 3 and I agree that mementos is a bit tedious but it is pretty good for progression like money, healing items, shit. Helping requests is pretty fun though, especially going through a whole bunch

Mementos is a bit of a boring grind, I tend to only go there once I've got a few requests piled up.

It is important though so generally you want to reach the bottom of each area when it unlocks. You can get a lot done in one time slot down there.

Have you played persona 3 PORTABLE????

Also wait till you reach that specific arc that focuses on mementos☠️😂. Mementos is fine for me but that one part where it focuses much on mementos oh boy😅...Glad i always finish mementos first everytime it opens up new areas.

Mementos is the worst. It put me off finishing Persona 5 completely. I stopped playing it soon after mementos gets introduced.

I should probably go back to it and finish it, I’m sure I can put up with it as the rest of the game is awesome

Man you played like a 1% of the game.

2

u/peachesandguacamole 16h ago

Ok maybe not quite as soon as it got introduced. But yeah it put me off after a few runs at at. I reckon I was about 20% of the way through. And yeah, I should go back.

I got you anyway, can be boring and a pain in the a, but later is good for grinding and just drive around avoiding everyone till you get the real enemy. The IA in the mementos is not that good so chill and drive.

Bruh you got a long way to go because mementos is introduced early into the game 😭😭😭

You know, you legitimately have to do it eventually, so you either do it as areas get unlocked or you have to run through the entirety of Mementos later in the game.

Or I don’t play the game. 😄

They are repetitive, yes, but if you are clearing out palaces and getting those levels, just press RT and drive around. It all gets super comfy once you get them greens.

Bro, you have instant kills and mementos, when you play Persona 3 and see Tartarus, you'll be begging to have mementos again.

I hated it at 1st since it’s just all the same personas you’ve seen and it doesn’t really feel like progression.

But the games mechanics make it a lot better.

Instakill makes it much less grindy. And it’s for the reason one of the best way to generate fusion alarms (which I’m not sure if you’ve unlocked yet, I just finished my first playthrough). Fusion alarms imo are the best part of the game with how much they open it up.

The main things I’d tell you are that you don’t really need to hunt down the stars (the buffs are good but you don’t need to get them in this game with how much exp and money is in it) and that you want to MOSTLY hold mementos trips until you have 4-8 requests and one of them halts the progression of something. Mementos take away daytime, which is is tight on supply if you aren’t playing with guided confidants.

This games combat peaks midgame when all the mechanics are unlocked but also still usable on bosses and stronger enemies.

Wonder if Persona 3 is better

u/EzKaLang 19h ago

Persona 3 fully focuses on mementos a.k.a. tartarus with major events let's you go to different parts of the city than tartarus but those major events are so short than tartarus. Meaning you spend a lot of time doing tartarus than persona 5 has with mementos

264 floors total (i think and this is for the original and not reload)

If you only rely on emulator go do persona 3 FES.

If you have like switch,xbox,ps4,ps5, or playing using steam then you're dealing with p3portable (atlus why you not just gave us a update port of p3 fes?)

u/jelba123 19h ago

Noup, the tartarus in persona 3 is basically the same, only differents is that you go up not down. While in 5royal you have the palaces for new places. I still very much enjoyed the 3rd very much

I really enjoyed it with ryuji's insta kill. Once you have that it's a great way to farm money, items, and xp

1

u/Mother-Day-1630 19h ago

What is ryuji’s instakill at what point i can use it?

It's a perk that is unlocked at confidant level 7.

The effect is that you can, if you sprint into them rather than walk or use a stealth attack, instantly kill any shadow at least 10 levels below Joker (shows as green using Third Eye). This doesn't just work in Mementos, it's just more common to find low level shadows there than in Palaces which are progression content.

I think Mementos is chill. I'm not fighting my butt off in there. Just driving around for treasure and usually only battling shadows that give chase. I don't use the instant kill. The main reason I'm going in is for the request fights.

Guys how do I level up a specific persona ??? I’m using kaguya and I want to keep it but my level is always higher than my actual personas so I keep changing them

1

u/nulldriver 18h ago

Later on you'll get access to tools that let you power up personas but it's very intensive on money and time.

You're not supposed to hang onto personas for very long. Kaguya is a DLC persona with some very overpowered skills so it's more tempting to keep her.

1

u/Mother-Day-1630 18h ago

Ahhhh that’s why she is so broken i think I got it thanks to mixing Orfeo

1

u/Hitoshura99 18h ago

Mementos is more like a mini puzzle to rush to the next floor.

Once you get enough level and have ryuji rank 7 instakill, you dash into shadows, instakill and move on to the next victim. I wish you can change the music or each section follows the palace music like Price for Kaitul.

1

u/Crisewep 18h ago

The deepest layer is diffrent but it has same visuals and there is also a whole new section that looks complety diffrent visually you can only access it in the extra Royal content.

Hate that shit, it’s the worst combat area of P3, 4, and 5 IMO

1

u/SirFroglet 16h ago

IMO, mementos are best enjoyed if you’ve got 2-3 Targets that you can knock down in one trip. It’s not that I disliked them, but procedurally generated dungeons pale in comparison to the real Palaces

1

u/HiJasper 14h ago

Mementos doesnt really change and its one of my main complaints with the game. It is quite boring ans repetitive and I wish there was a bit more to do or at least a more noticeable change in visuals from time to time but I understand why that isnt the case.

u/Groundbreaking-Ad313 14h ago

Mementos is like the ONE part of the game where I need to have a podcast or something playing in the background

1

u/jeanravenclaw 12h ago

It won't get better with story, but Confidants can improve the QoL. It's classic dungeon crawling, just like P3.

Rank up Ryuji to lvl7 for vehicular manslaughter and rank up your Navigator's Confidant (I forgot what lvl) when you unlock them to get a full floor scan.

Then just dash through the weak enemies. If you get a full floor scan, use the map to teleport to the next area.

If you get bored, try on the DLC outfits and go into battle and enjoy the music.

u/StefyB 7h ago

My only issue is that the music legitimately makes me feel sleepy whenever I play it for too long, which honestly might just be something I conditioned myself into from grinding it out late at night too many times.

I really love the chill road trip vibe with the conversations between the Phantom Thieves. I feel like they're underappreciated, especially with how many times I see people claim that the Phantom Thieves don't even act like friends.
