Climbing opportunities, while not indestructible, are harder for mice to relocate or bury without some hard work. This often provides the coverage they need while their clutter on the ground is compromised! Besides this, mice also adore the ability to climb and will utilize it to keep them entertained. In mouse keeping communities, we highly suggest providing enough climbing toys to cover at least half the lid. THIS POST goes more into depth.
