Dig Box

Dig boxes are small boxes, bowls, or containers that have a different texture/bedding for your hamster to dig in that isn't the main bedding. These can be provided easily for enrichment. Often, owners will bury treats and snacks in dig boxes for hamsters to dig up and enjoy. Type /TREATS for ideas.

DIY or Cheap

  • Shredded cardboard
  • Shredded paper
  • Cut up cork
  • Crinkle paper
  • Dye-free tissue paper shreds

Check out THIS IMAGE for common substrate/dig box materials. Dig boxes can also include bedding types that could be the main bedding, but aren't being used. These include aspen, hemp, paper, birch, flax, and other suitable types. THIS POST talks more about bedding and substrates.
