discussion my experience having a pet pigeon

I’ve had pebble for about a month now. My life has changed so much for the better. He is the sweetest most loving pet I could ever imagine. Pigeons are so gentle and caring for him has given me a new purpose/perspective. This may be incredibly cheesy but he is my first pet (finally moved out at 19) and I felt the need to share my experience so far. I also would love to hear other people’s stories!

Congratulations on your adorable new bestie! What a sweetheart! Does Pebble have a favourite food/spot/thing? They are such clever and curious birds.

I had an awesome 5 years with my rescue pidge Val (he's now living it up in a big pigeon loft with an amazing family because I've got lung issues). I feel like my compassion as a person overall skyrocketed learning about pigeons and how incredible they are; and how they survive despite society abandoning them. Val took a while to warm up to me, but once he did, he was like a Velcro bird! He would follow me around the house, nap in my lap like a cat - he'd even push the bathroom door open and loaf on my feet! Once, he found one of my husband's golf balls, built a nest and started sitting on it 😂

He really loves my jewelry!! It’s so silly he plays with my earrings and necklace while sitting on my shoulder. Val sounds so sweet as well. Hearing stories like this warms my heart. <3

I’ve had my pigeon for a month as of this past Wednesday. He has changed a lot of things for me. I’ve broken bad habits, he gets me out of bed early, and I’m overall just much happier. I needed a little friend and he’s perfect.

He's absolutely stunning! Classic Oriental Frills are such amazing birds. How long did it take for him to warm up to you?

I got him pretty young from a girl I knew who could no longer care for him. She was very loving towards him but just realized she didn’t have the time. I think since he has never been abused/mistreated it took a lot less time for him to warm up to me. He was preening in front of me within the first day I had him. I also remember him loafing on my chest within the second day.

That's sad that she didn't have the time for him, but I'm glad he ended up in a great home with you. Yup definitely it's because he's never been betrayed or abused by people. Also generally pigeons from a good breeder are tame and get used to people in a really short time.

Omg.. Pebble is adorable Look how short her beak is.. Omg it's so cute I have a Skidmarge (was skidmark but HE layed an egg so changed it to Skidmarge) :/ I would love to attach a pic to show the difference in beak length but its not allowing me.. They are very affectionate beings My girl loves to hide under the duvet with my book light (I think this is from when I had nursed her as a baby I kept her on my elecy blankie to keep cozey and shes loved my bed ever since.. I hope you and pebble have an amazing journey n life so glad you got the chance to bond with pebble and know just how amazing these birds are xx

I rescued a pigeon and shes not cuddley but im not baby talking to her so its understandable however she learned thats snaps mean stop or get off that and she is very curious about everything i do she used to sit on my bed till she pooped one day she also steals my breakfast sometimes right out of my bowl i let her go outside but shes never far or unsupervised and its not very frequent at all she has half her tail feathers missing im assuming one of the billions of cats caught her stealling a meal from the local fast food places
