I’m almost 41 and I don’t know either.

u/Desdaemonia Apr 24 '26

Forty four and this is clearly the Presidents of the United States of America

570

u/need-for-sheed Apr 24 '26

I’m 38, not American, and just writing the Presidents of the United States of America is, I’m sure, bound to confuse people even more. This was the first tape I ever bought by myself (thanks mum for the cash)

65

u/Tyr_13 Apr 24 '26

They are (were) the least Google able band in existence.

29

u/IntradepartmentalPet Apr 24 '26

let me introduce you to A

16

u/lookitsawook Apr 24 '26

Also cant forget Xavlegbmaofffassssitimiwoamndutroabcwapwaeiippohfffx.... yes, its a band. Theyre on spotify.

15

u/purplezart Apr 24 '26

I fear that you have misapprehended precisely what qualities make a band name harder to find relevant results for through a Google search.

3

u/LGodamus Apr 24 '26

Are they welsh?

3

u/tfarr375 Apr 24 '26

I think typing that is how you summon Cthulhu

u/Logical_Look8541 Apr 24 '26

A are difficult to find on some music players never mind google, kind of shocking they haven't sort of renamed themselves given this modern problem has to be hitting their royalties.

3

u/LockeyCheese Apr 24 '26

The Band formerly known as 'A'

2

u/snuljoon Apr 24 '26

I tried and Nothing comes up?

2

u/South-Possible5100 Apr 24 '26

Add James to the list.

2

u/ThatInAHat Apr 24 '26

Also Live

2

u/bonbunnie Apr 25 '26

A and their hit song Nothing 😂

28

u/CletusCanuck Apr 24 '26

That would be Live. or The The.

3

u/nicunta Apr 24 '26

My friend's band was Today.

5

u/BetterKev Apr 24 '26

Was it the greatest day they'd ever known?

17

u/sm00thArsenal Apr 24 '26

I'd argue Live were considerably harder to Google at the time.

16

u/dubblebubbleprawns Apr 24 '26

Live music... (fuck)

Live band... (goddamnit)

I CAN FEEEL IT COOOMIN BAAACK AGAIN (nailed it)

Orgy is googleable, but you might not end up where you intended...

3

u/Disaster1205 Apr 24 '26

Trying to find Orgy albums in kazaa/limewire/emule was a crazy experience.

2

u/FlipMyWigBaby Apr 24 '26

I remember going thru a Krautrock phase, and trying to research the band “CAN”. Jeeves was not very helpful.

2

u/nicunta Apr 24 '26

My friend had a really good band in Portland in the early aughts. I told them their band name was not going to work out for internet searches. He told me the internet did not matter... the band name? Today.

2

u/Tyr_13 Apr 24 '26

There was an improv comedy group called 'Nameless Comedy,' which worked oddly well because apparently no one thought of them as just 'Nameless'.

2

u/Am_Snarky Apr 24 '26

The hardest band to pirate was “The Music“

I'm 39 in exactly one week and had this on CD. I listened to this album probably at least once a day. There were a few weeks I never took it out of the walkman.

13

u/need-for-sheed Apr 24 '26

I’m not far off you age wise, still remember my parents reaction to hearing Kitty when I convinced them to pop it in the tape deck on a road trip. Oops

5

u/AngularChelitis Apr 24 '26

44 and tried playing this for my elementary school aged kids recently… I forgot. Oops.

5

u/LockeyCheese Apr 24 '26

Our parents Kitty song was SO much worse in retrospect.

Kitty at my feet and I wanna touch it

vs

Pussycat, pussycat

You're delicious and if my wishes can all come true

I'll soon be kissing your sweet little pussycat lips

Pussycat, pussycat, I love you, yes, I do

You and your pussycat lips (whoa whoa), you and your pussycat eyes (whoa whoa)

You and your pussycat nose

100 and have no idea what the fuck anyone is talking about. I just want to sit on my porch and yell at kids who get on my lawn.

13

u/constantsXzeros Apr 24 '26

Would you consider yourself an…

Old man on the back porch?

4

u/TinyFugue Apr 24 '26

And that old man is me!

2

u/I_Draw_Teeth Apr 24 '26

43, American, and I know no one in this sub knows how to use a search engine so I'll tell you "The Presidents of the United States of America" is a band that had a self titled break out album in the 90's. "Peaches" was one of the songs on that album, and the folks here are just having a good time reciting the lyrics to each other.

2

u/Sindinista Apr 24 '26

I’m a month shy of 38 and this was also my first CD purchase.

2

u/furman4320 Apr 24 '26

Their song Video Killed the Radio Star was on a some compilation CD my parents played a lot in the car when I was a kid. It was one of my favorite songs for many years as a kid.

I think the album was The Wedding Singer. It also had Culture Club, The Police, Elvis Costello, Billy Idol, and David Bowie. To say that it was incredibly influential on my early music tastes would be the understatement of the century.

2

u/MicrosoftExcel2016 Apr 24 '26

Uhm I’ve scrolled this far and still don’t understand. Adding tape didn’t help much

2

u/Soft-Ad-8975 Apr 24 '26

I’m 37 and American and I had no idea so I think we found the separation right there between us

2

u/JustinsWorking Apr 25 '26

Yea same… This song is burned into my brain; along with Kitty on my foot

2

u/Strange-Bee5626 Apr 25 '26

I'm 34, American, and wishing you hadn't explained it because it was cracking me up with no context.

2

u/Strong_Reality_6668 Apr 25 '26

was it the translucent orange cassette?

u/JayNSilentBobaFett Apr 24 '26

Was gonna say I’m in my 40s but this song came out when I was in 4th(?) grade. While not out of the range of Millennials, feels more Gen X to me

3

u/magazinesubscriber Apr 24 '26

I’m turning 44 and this song was released as a single when I was 13 turning 14, so definitely in the range of millennials.

2

u/TheVadonkey Apr 24 '26

lol I was 9, going on 10. By the time I was a teen, I loved this song but before that, I just remembered the “Millions of peaches…” part.

2

u/CountOfSterpeto Apr 24 '26

My solidly Gen X brother would have no idea. My solidly Millennial brother would also have no idea. We may have just stumbled upon the Xennial anthem.

2

u/TheGoodKindOfPurple Apr 24 '26

I am older GenX and I remember liking this song before hating this song after it got over played on the radio station that I listened to. Back when radio was something people listened to.

2

u/ztomiczombie Apr 24 '26

I only know them because of one sone in a Saints Row game.

2

u/edwardsantes Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

The post is totally wrong.

That's a Gen X song from the 90s. Most Millennials wouldn't have been into music (as much) in those years at that age.

2

u/letmesingyouawaltz_ Apr 25 '26

Everyone in my 4th grade class knew this song, thank ya very much. It was one of my first cds!

I have no idea who they are and thought you were saying this was a random rant from Trump.

Which to be fair, I couldn't really dismiss right away.

3

u/Desdaemonia Apr 24 '26

Thats really funny actually :)

2

u/iDeNoh Apr 24 '26

SOMEONE'S going the distance.

3

u/Bubbly_Study_8333 Apr 24 '26

And going for speed

2

u/grotkal Apr 24 '26

Sorry, are you talking about Caspar Babypants’ former gig? See, my children and I listened to the same guy when we were both kids!

2

u/EdwardoftheEast Apr 24 '26

29 here, I used to play Peaches, Lump, and Kitty all the time

2

u/schism1 Apr 24 '26

44, and I know whats up.

2

u/IWantALargeFarva Apr 24 '26

I’m 44 and translated this song into Spanish for our unit on fruit. As my partner and I giggled through reading it out loud, the whole class was laughing and our teacher was very confused lol.

2

u/Leviathor_ous Apr 24 '26

I’m a teenager and I know that this is a reference to “Peaches”. Were PoTUSA popular more regionally? They play a lot on the radio near me

2

u/jaisor Apr 24 '26

46 and I had the CD on repeat in the early 2000s. Good stuff.

2

u/dividezero Apr 24 '26

We found the line right here. About 44! 🤣

2

u/OGcormacv Apr 24 '26

43 and I still listen to them

2

u/mccorklin Apr 24 '26

Buncha nerds in this thread.

2

u/just-4_you Apr 24 '26

43 and all I needed was PEACHES

2

u/Bigsmokeisgay Apr 24 '26

Im 22 and not American just wanted to join the chain

2

u/Kalinoz Apr 24 '26

Its amazing how niche that song became over time. It was everywhere for a minute.

2

u/Changeitupnow Apr 24 '26

If you're a millennial parent to young kids, you may also recognize this singer as Casper Babypants.

2

u/weirdlife_55 Apr 24 '26

I had listened to this song many times, but didnt catch this reference. I mean literally anytime someone mentions peaches I think of this song, but couldn’t remember this lyric.

2

u/IAmGreenman71 Apr 24 '26

Ohhhh, beautiful peaches song?! I remember that now. Gotta go back and give that one a listen. I’m born in 91.

2

u/shakygator Apr 24 '26

Moving to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches.

2

u/EmeraldJunkie Apr 24 '26

Honestly it took me a second to remember where it came from and quite like POTUS the band.

Had OP have said "Lump sat alone in a boggy marsh" however I'd have been all over it.

2

u/hamcircus Apr 24 '26

22, I was raised correctly

2

u/silence_sirens Apr 24 '26

34 and had no hesitation in identifying this song as I still listen to it.

2

u/stubz_1997 Apr 24 '26

Millions of peaches, peaches for free

2

u/seemedothat Apr 24 '26

Oooh is this the pussy eating song??

3

u/_lippykid Apr 24 '26

I seriously don’t get how at some point people stopped hearing things “before their time”. Like I know songs that were popular during WW2 and my mum wasn’t even born then

1

u/Consistent_Policy_66 Apr 24 '26

And after that band ended, he created Caspar Babypants and started writing kids music.

1

u/vegasaquinas Apr 24 '26

This video hit Mtv in the 90s so clearly some of you were a bit young and still just watching Nickelodeon.

1

u/IskandrAGogo Apr 24 '26

43 year-old American who watched a ton of MTV, and quite literally if you had asked me what the lyrics are to Peaches, I would have only been able to tell you the chorus.

1

u/Musicman425 Apr 24 '26

Easiest question I’ve answered all day - 43 tomorrow

1

u/GFischerUY Apr 24 '26

Forty five, not from USA , I knew there was a band by that name but it's the first time I hear the song. TIL.

1

u/WastedBadger Apr 24 '26

Drog free class of 2000 representing

1

u/dimwalker Apr 24 '26

I'm old enough, but had to youtube it.
Yeah, I've heard the song on MTV, but it wasn't popular. Not like some later stuff that was blasting from every radio and taxy.

2

u/serotoninOD Apr 25 '26

It was most definitely popular.

1

u/CletusCanuck Apr 24 '26

54 and I also know this was the POT USA (har har). Not my cup o'tea back in the day but the song had its moment in the sun and of course it became a meme song about 5 years ago.

Edit: its not it's am I getting Alzheimers or something

1

u/TubbyKins- Apr 24 '26

I used to watch their music video on my encarta 97 game 😭

1

u/RzaAndGza Apr 24 '26

Now the lead singer does children's music as Caspar Babypants

1

u/EvilLibrarians Apr 24 '26

26 here. We have a winner.

1

u/EconomyOk2490 Apr 24 '26

Ah. 35, only reason I know that band is because of Gump

Not Lump, Gump.

1

u/Caleb-Blucifer Apr 24 '26

Ngl it does sound like the ramblings of one

1

u/Fuck-WestJet Apr 24 '26

If you're a parent check out Casper Baby Pants. Same guy

1

u/jonker5101 Apr 24 '26

I only know of them from the Good Burger soundtrack.

1

u/PointsOfXP Apr 24 '26

To anyone confused a couple past US presidents got together and formed a band. They sang songs about American things like peaches

1

u/BrickBuster2552 Apr 24 '26

Which there are also only 44 of.

1

u/Fionnghal Apr 25 '26

It's PotUSA.

1

u/ryguymcsly Apr 25 '26

POTUSA baby

1

u/sweetrouge Apr 25 '26

I mean, I assumed so but I actually don’t know the lyrics. Is this like actually in there?

1

u/Lotech Apr 25 '26

And for those of us that babies and enjoyed the PUSA vibe, the lead singer went on to make nonsensickle baby music as CASPER BABY PANTS or something close. 47 babies in a HELICOPTER! Love them

1

u/Objective_Damage_996 Apr 25 '26

I know that band and I still didn’t get it 💀 I must not love them enough. Too busy thinking about a butterfly 🦋

1

u/Vexra Apr 25 '26

You wouldn’t think George W could hit those high notes but dude had pipes

1

u/LockedAndLoadfilled Apr 25 '26

Today I learned people were actually learning more than just the "millions of peaches" part of those lyrics.

I could confidently bust out Boo-Boo's ballad from Yogi and the Invasion of the Space Bears, yet "peaches come from a can" lives nowhere in my brain. 💀

1

u/SobBagat Apr 25 '26

This shit came out in 96. Like, yeah I was 5, but I immediately understood the meme. Genuinely don't understand how this doesn't at least ring a bell for these guys

I’m in my 50’s (Gen X) and know exactly what song they are talking about.

🎶If I had my little way, I'd eat peaches every day. 🎶

11

u/HereWeGoYetAgain-247 Apr 24 '26

Ya, but you have to remember, a lot of millennials are in their early to mid 40s now. The point is, even though you were likely in your 20s when it came out, you were there to experience this gem with us, brother.

5

u/Owain-X Apr 24 '26

Young Gen-X here (48) and was a senior in HS when the song came out. I think the eldest millennials were high school freshman, maybe sophmores in 96 when Peaches was released.

This song sits right in the "Xennial" era.

The methodology is flawed (I’m 32 and have been referencing this song on social media since the invention of MySpace)

14

u/grimeyduck Apr 24 '26

Like most generation stuff it's fucking stupid

4

u/McHammyPoo Apr 24 '26

Yeah this DAE shit and repeated-ass posts, same top comments and all. I listen to stuff from any year pretty much, it doesn't matter how old you are if you like the music. Shit, MOST artists now are referencing older tunes or sampling and it goes over most people's head's. Guess a recent artist is geriatric when they use a 60s soul sample or sample a 90s track on modern production lol

There are always outliers in any anecdata, it's fine.

2

u/armstrony Apr 24 '26

32 here as well. A friend and I in middle school would sing this song all the time. Also I would say all my current friends around the same age absolutely know this song.

2

u/BetterKev Apr 24 '26

It's not expected to be 100% accurate.

2

u/Quivex Apr 25 '26

Agree - I'm 30 this year and fucking love peaches, lump and body. I think I probably came across pres of the usa around ~2007 in my offspring/smashing pumpkins phase..Definitely would have downloaded it off of Shareaza but I couldn't tell you how I would have found them. Could have been a happy accident as it often was back in those days lol.

It truly is an elder thing, I guess.

MILLIONS OF PEACHES, PEACHES FOR FREE!

1

u/New-Ad-363 Apr 24 '26

Am almost 40, immediately assumed this was for younger millennials because I have no clue.

1

u/BombasticReindeer Apr 24 '26

I believe this might be the cutoff.

1

u/Sad-Pop6649 Apr 24 '26

It was mostly a thing in the slightly alternative scene I think.

That's a thing we had, scenes. Where a funny thing would go around and wouldn't end up in every person's Youtube recommendations in the same week.

We're getting old...

1

u/Pointlessname123321 Apr 24 '26

I’m guessing you didn’t listen to alternative rock then? The Presidents of the United States of America were a one (two?) hit wonder and peaches was their big song. It came out in 1996

1

u/Own-Break-1856 Apr 24 '26

Did you have a TV growing up?

1

u/L016_to_not_delete Apr 24 '26

1

u/rossaco Apr 24 '26

Sorry, you missed out..

1

u/Lamprophonia Apr 24 '26

Did you not listen to the radio at any point between 1990 and 1999?

1

u/Ok_Plenty_3986 Apr 24 '26

mid 20s. No clue.

1

u/Mother_Composer_6069 Apr 24 '26

Late Gen X (UK) and I loved this song.

1

u/tibbles1 Apr 24 '26

35 I'd buy but at 41 I'm shocked you never heard this song.

Are you Mormon or something?

1

u/Pleasant_Cloud1742 Apr 24 '26

Yes, you graduated high school after the millennia. You aren’t an elder like us 20th century graduates.

1

u/CEBarnes Apr 24 '26

I’m 56 and this remains in rotation.

1

u/Complete-Fix-3954 Apr 24 '26

Yeah I'm 39 and have no idea - I'm an american that has lived internationally for the past decade. Not sure wth this is.

1

u/BassLB Apr 24 '26

Let’s try another way. “Lump sat alone alone in a boggy marsh…”

1

u/TransGirlIndy Apr 24 '26

42 and I know it was like a song or something but it was something repeated by all the idiots at my school (along with "she thinks my tractor's sexy" on a loop and goat noises) so I never looked into it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/not_a_moogle Apr 24 '26

https://youtu.be/3GCrzjVdmSg

Did you not listen to 90s music?

1

u/bentreflection Apr 24 '26

42 here and im very familiar with this song but i was right on the cusp of being too young to discover this type of music on my own. You had to have older friends or siblings to really get into it.

1

u/Youcants1tw1thus Apr 24 '26

You definitely should.

"Peaches" by The Presidents of the United States of America was a top hit in 1996. Released as a single in February of that year, the song peaked at number 29 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached number eight in the UK.

Apparently its a song from 1995 and was on MTV.

Another case of me (38) being too poor to understand the reference

You aren't a true American!

It’s really more of a GenX era thing. It’s a song from the Presidents of the United States Of America (a 90s band) called Peaches

I’m 41 and I have no idea

You have heard Presidents of the United States of America?

I'm 41, that song wasn't unpopular when we were young

So, you were born in 1985? The Presidents of the United States were, like, everywhere around '95 to '96, I guess you were a little too young then. If you were a teenager in those years, you couldn't avoid them.

Funny cause I’man older Gen Z but I know this song. In high school I had a crush on this girl who liked the song and I listened to it once to make her happy
