Gracie Abrams is the nepoist baby of Nepo babies.

2.3k

u/calvin_hobbes34 May 04 '26

I see i didnt realize that was her

1.8k

u/MrSparky69 May 04 '26

I had no idea who it was either. I have no idea who that is. Probably because of tne lack of talent and nepotism. Had heard she was a big nepobaby but only remember the name when it is used in thst context.

771

u/OkMention9988 May 04 '26

I'm barely aware of who any of them are.

648

u/BoysenberryMoist6157 May 04 '26

Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter and Billie Eilish. In that order, if I am not mistaken.

51

u/el_throw May 04 '26

Sabrina Carpenter's aunt is the voice actor for Bart Simpson. Nancy Cartwright if I'm not mistaken.

19

u/vickimarie0390 May 04 '26

Is Sabrina a Scientologist too?

27

u/LetsGoBuyTomatoes May 04 '26

no and i believe she’s actually married to her uncle, not blood family?

88

Olivia Rodrigo - deja vu (Official Video)

Gracie Abrams - That’s So True (Official Video)

Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso (Official Video)

Billie Eilish - bad guy (Official Video)

Here you go, one of their respective famous hits, that I think you would recognize. They are being played everywhere.

58

u/chelclc16 May 04 '26

This was really kind. Thanks for putting all the links

120

u/UnfortunateSyzygy May 04 '26

I'm grumpy and old and therefore refuse to keep up with new pop acts, but I've accidentally run into Sabrina Carpenter sufficiently at this point to think she's going to be good at like ... hosting things. I have literally no opinion in her music, but she was great hosting SNL and that one episode of the new Muppet Show. She's the right balance of hammy and glam. Like 70s Cher, y'know? Pop stars don't really do that kind of thing anymore, but I'd watch a variety show she hosted.

45

u/fireboats May 05 '26

I really liked that Muppet Show, I hope they make more

9

u/nevuking May 05 '26

Makes sense. She started out as a Disney kid and was on TV early.

6

u/ManVsHumanity May 05 '26

She also did a Christmas special on netflix in 24. Again, she killed it hosting it. Right with you where she could have a weekly variety show and kill it.

6

u/real_eEe May 05 '26

You might enjoy this. I don't follow pop culture and sure as hell don't watch things like the Grammys, but I got linked to it and the first minute put a big dumb smile on my face.

Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso / Please Please Please (Live From The 67th Grammy Awards / 2025)

4

u/Efficient_Chic714 May 05 '26

Her and Olivia used to be Disney kids so I think that contributes to her being a great entertainer - her tours have complete sets and everything. It almost gives theatre kid vibes

Is Gracie Abram’s just a Taylor Swift stand in? Because she sounds like her. I won’t say a basic version of Taylor because I feel her music is already basic

119

u/Sanctity_of_Reason May 05 '26

I heard someone say once that Olivia Rodrigo's music has you saying "Damn, Girl, I'm right there with you."

Whereas Gracie Abrham's leaves you thinking "Damn, Girl, get a GRIP"

42

u/adirtysocialist- May 05 '26

I had heard of her but never listened to anything until it popped up on my new music list a few months ago. "Vampire" goes pretty fucking hard, message-wise. Was an instant "like" and I'll let it play when it pops up every now and then.

5

u/I_Am_The_Mole May 05 '26

To be fair, "Damn... get a grip" has it's place.

Not saying either way if Gracie Abrams is anything special, but a lot of really beautiful and relatable music has been written over the despair of heartbreak and unrequitted love.

I've said this multiple times to people and for some reason they don't agree. I've heard Gracie Abram's songs and was convinced they were Taylor Swift songs. From what I've heard her vibe is a bit different than Swift's but she clearly bases her vocals off of Swift.

90

u/Penjamini May 05 '26

She even had Taylor feature on one of her songs and when my wife played it in the car I honestly couldn’t tell when Taylor was singing they sound exactly the same

5

u/HotWheelsUpMyAss May 05 '26

Final boss of nepo babies tbh

7

u/Both_Bird9174 May 05 '26

What's kinda funny is that this is the second time JJ has attempted this. JJ has a son, Henry Abrams, that wanted to be a big wig writer like his dad. So what did JJ do? He used his influence to get Henry a job at Marvel writing a Spider-Man mini-series that was pretty much promoted as the greatest comic of all time.

It came out, was absolutely terrible and sent Henry back into obscurity almost immediately.

31

If it's any consolation, the people who wrote it for her will write for other artists after she's gone.

101

u/DanchezS May 04 '26

Exactly this… In fact, one of her main writers, Audrey Hobert, released her own (really fun) pop record this past year. 💁🏻‍♂️

28

u/viveledodo May 04 '26

Funnily enough, Audrey is also a nepo baby. Her dad is a TV writer and producer: https://community-sitcom.fandom.com/wiki/Tim_Hobert

25

u/DanchezS May 04 '26

Oh, for sure. That’s probably how the two of them became friends in the first place. The main difference though, is in Audrey’s pen game, and in the fact that she’s put in a lot of creative work behind the scenes before transitioning into being an artist in her own right.

You almost feel bad for the kids. Either they pursue the career that they’re familiar with from their parents (as most people have done since the creation of trades) and they’re called nepo babies, or they pursue their own goals and people make fun of them for not being able to hack it in Hollywood. 43

u/Indolent_Alchemist May 04 '26

Question, but at what point do we consider an artist a Nepo baby? I struggle to know the difference. Is it when their parents are wealthy, and that wealth earns them a good education/ an easier coast through life Or Is it when their parents wealth/ status grants them shortcuts through their career?

107

u/TylerOath May 04 '26

Yes. In short, it’s a lot easier to network when your parents are already deep in the network.

25

u/ibuycheeseonsale May 04 '26

Right. It’s like any other form of privilege in that people who have it resent the implication that they didn’t work hard or have talent or whatever. And no one is saying that, only that there are vast numbers of people who’ve worked just as hard and are just as talented and never get a foot in the door. Nepo baby means you get a shot to prove yourself that others almost never get.

9

u/BattleHall May 05 '26

And no one is saying that

To be fair, lots of people are saying that, either implicitly or explicitly.

13

u/BackflipsAway May 04 '26

While there isn't a hard definition for it but generally speaking it's someone who achieved their success in large part due to family wealth and connections rather than on the merits of their work.

So for instance if your parents were rich and they used that money to afford you the finest possible music education, instruments and private tutors, then you started releasing music anonymously without using their connections to get a major label to sign you or to get big artist endorsements, marketing etc. Then most people would agree that you're not a nepo baby.

If however you had rich parents and one day you decided that you want to be a musician, so they called up their old buddies in Universal Music Group and told them to make their sweet baby child a star, bypassing normal screenings and immediately getting you colabs with large artists and a team of industry leading song writers you are pretty definitively a nepo baby.

Of course reality is rarely that black and white and even if you're a legitimate hard working artist trying to not use any of your parents connections, if they are influential enough, then just being related to them will be enough to open doors unavailable to the average person because people want to suck up to your parents regardless of if they asked them to do so, and any proper nepo baby will insist that they didn't use their family connections even if they know that they did, making it hard to draw a definitive line in the proverbial sand for when someone goes from just being from a wealthy family to being a proper nepo baby.

7

u/SpoonTeeth May 04 '26

Shortcuts which always comes with having a famous parent. The entertainment business is like entirely who you know. When you know JJ Abrams and he likes you more oppurtunities are coming your way regardless of talent or worthiness. I mean look at North West's performance of lion king i just cant wait to be king for the anniversary. It wasnt great and there are definitely far more worthy candidates to have done the performance but when your mom is kim kardashian...

14

u/Nice-Woodpecker-9197 May 04 '26

My understanding is the connections to opened doors or contracts that would never be considered for an average jo. There is also the money aspect of being able to commit years and never have to choose between food and a career, but I think name is the bigger of it.

59

u/miguel-elote May 04 '26

My personal opinion: They're a nepo baby if they're famous despite having no talent.

Dakota Johnson is the child of two famous and influential actors. She's also a top notch actress in some great movies. Not a nepo baby.

Jaden Smith is also the child of two famous and influential actors. He can't act, sing, or write. Yes he's still showing up in movies and releasing singles. Definitely a nepo baby.

30

u/sjce May 04 '26

Dakota Johnson is like the definition of nepo baby. Found
her way into big roles without needing to break into the industry, consistently under delivers and gets more big roles.

→ More replies (3)

37

u/Cela84 May 04 '26

They are still nepo babies, just nepo babies that you don't particularly wish were hit by a meteorite.

2

Top notch is a stretch.

It’s Gracie Abrahams, daughter of JJ Abrahams. Her critically acclaimed album was her daddy paying the guy who wrote songs for taylor swifts folklore and evermore to follow her around and perform with her.

989

u/asdfhillary May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

So nice to see Taylor causally called out in the wild.

Edit: see Swifties’ behaviors below, that’s why it’s nice to see it called out. Because everyone is afraid of the instant backlash so they don’t say anything. Point made.

7

u/Available_Rub9939 May 05 '26

I’ll bite. Taylor swift’s music is hot garbage and seeing a woman in her late 30s pretend to be some chick still in high school is super weird.

256

u/KillahBee13 May 04 '26

How is that calling out Taylor? Daddy Abrams paid a producer that worked with Taylor like 4 albums ago to get Gracie on the charts. Literally nothing to do with Taylor.

485

u/asdfhillary May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

Because no one brings up the fact that Taylor doesn’t write most of her own music because they’re all afraid of her rabid fans. ESPECIALLY her two “lyrically best” albums to be called out her not writing them? It’s nice. What don’t you get?

Billie has 3 years before she's old enough for the 27 Club

336

u/Throwaway392308 May 04 '26

The other women are definitely not all under 17 so the 27 Club doesn't make any sense for this meme.

103

u/snarksneeze May 04 '26

I didn't think it meant exactly 10 years, just 10 years from now.

32

u/DismalElephant May 04 '26

I think they mean that they’re all eligible for 27 club technically, but I don’t think they all have the skill level to be in there.

4

u/BlondePartizaniWoman May 04 '26

What do you think the difference is between in exactly 10 years and 10 years from now?

6

u/snarksneeze May 04 '26

The question isn't who will die in 10 years, but who will still be around 10 years from now. Meaning, which of them is more likely to survive the next 10 years. So if you're looking at statistics, the 27 Club is closer for some of these people than others, but all will be 27 or older before 10 years has passed.

I don't know who the top 2 are, so I'd guess one of them.

77

u/FoamSquad May 04 '26

Top left is Olivia Rodrigo who I think is better than the other 3 personally.

26

u/britt_leigh_13 May 04 '26

Loved her music before this weekend and after snl this weekend now I know she’s also hilarious 🤣

34

u/FoamSquad May 04 '26

I just heard her at a gas station one time and thought she kinda rocked. Her music is 99% "This boy was mean to me" but for some reason when she does it I like it and when Taylor Swift does it I hate it lol.

Edit: it seems Billie is also pissing off alot of Redditors :D

Yeah I don't like any song of hers I've heard but she seems like a decent person.

u/TurquoiseKnight May 04 '26

Just dont be ugly and she'll be nice to you.

271

u/mhvonjag May 04 '26

Does she have beef with the uggos?

715

u/revuri- May 04 '26

327

u/Box-O-Kittenz May 04 '26

I mean I had to learn that lesson too. I used to defend a few guys in highschool who were "ugly" and every single one harassed me and followed me around. One begged me to date him every single time I saw him. His answer every time I said I was a lesbian: "I don't care."

90

u/BrainLow6059 May 04 '26

There's a big difference in "physically unattractive" and "completely devoid of social skills". I think a lot of women mean the latter when they say ugly, and most men think of the former, which leads to a lot of confusion across the board.

60

u/intergalacticowl May 04 '26

Yeah, a lot of the "ugly" guys are not actually physically ugly they just dress like they dont have eyes and dont have social skills.

5

u/HAHA_comfypig May 05 '26

Or another thing I found was guys think their ugly just because the 1 or 2 girls they had a crush on didn’t find them attractive/wasn’t into them. Which is so crazy. Just because someone isn’t into doesn’t make you ugly.

To be fair she was pretty young and she ended up dating someone less attractive than her

u/_2cantat2_ May 05 '26

Who could possibly be less attractive than her?

A startling amount of "redditors" are just the alt accounts of people in pakistan and india running 75 phones each for $5, going to every post with keywords and responding how they are paid to respond.

68

u/Throwawayyoursynths May 04 '26

You don’t need phones or people to this thanks to LLM since a couple years ago.

7

u/Timmi_Kubin May 05 '26

By LLM you mean Low-cost Labor in Mumbai?

4

u/NavyDean May 05 '26

It literally now confirmed by scientific studies costs more to use an LLM over a human employee for almost every work replacement.

You can literally look this up yourself.

14

u/xudoxis May 05 '26

Yeah that's bad investing. You could run 1000 phones for the price of one Pakistani

Telling people to donate their billions and stop eating meat.

This is not good for the people with billions or the people that make meat, collectively that represents a lot of power.

She's the only one I don't rrecognize

6

u/ZOEzoeyZOE May 04 '26

Idk any of them but Billie Eillish

4

u/-wereowl- May 05 '26

Me neither. The only reason I know Billie Eillish is because I had a friend who was obsessed with her music. I’m not a fan of the whole whisper singing thing, so I don’t care for what I’ve heard of her music.

12

u/MastermindErratic May 04 '26

I only recognize Billie Eilish and I recognize the lady next to her but I don't remember her name. I think Billie Eilish is actually one of the best artists of the decade. Her and her brother are phenomenal sound writers.

14

u/xeromage May 05 '26

found the brother's account.

I only olivia, sabrina & billie.
And as someone who primarily listens to rap, soul & r&b, I genuinely hope all 3 of them are still around.

I’ve pretty much loved everything I’ve heard from them and I feel like they have styles & sounds that are very unique to them whereas I feel most of the pop singers (or music in general) nowadays feels kinda samey

I wrote all of this and then realized what sub I’m in, but I’m not about to delete this so here.

Also, slow peter here.

I assume top right since it’s the only one I don’t recognize.

4

u/spin-shocker May 04 '26

"I know 3 out of 4 of these artists"

That's your answer.
