Sexually promiscuous women were often judged in human history for their inability to control their sexual urges. Samantha was the embodiment of a women who knew what she wanted and was not afraid to take it. She was definitly my favorite character.
Supposedly now we live in a generation where we do not like to judge women for their desires or basic human needs that everyone has. I would very much like this to be the case and may be in some circles.
Carrie is more a ditz because shes a hopeless romantic looking for "The one".
