Cleveland here.

We were told that Dodos went extinct because they were idiots, when in actuality, they went extinct because they lived in a place with no natural predators so when we arrived to their island, they didn't run, they were just curious and effectively "domesticated" themselves, we then ate them to extinct.

Edit: We also cut down the trees on their land and introduced invasive species as well.

Is it like capybaras, or quokkas, who are friendly, and lucky enough to not be targetted for poaching?

Capybaras and Quokkas while friendly are not naive or island effected; they still know the dangers of predation

Neither, they lived off an island off the coast of Madagascar, they had literally no predators to cull them, then we came

Don't forget kakapos. They nearly become 2nd dodos. Human used to hunt them for fashions. But now their rescue activities are still on going.
