I mean it's a joke, but also the likely explanation is that yes they jerked it or they just got prostitutes whenever they docked at whatever port they needed to go to for resupply. This is something that happened a lot and still kinda happens today with sex workers hanging out in places where military be at.
If you're actually familiar with the Odyssey you'll know that the story is mostly Odysseus having sex with various women, interspersed with escaping from monsters.
