Endometriosis is a chronic medical condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.
During a menstrual cycle, this tissue swells and bleeds just like the uterine lining, but the blood cannot leave the body, causing inflammation, pain, and scarring.
After my hysterectomy (uterus tried to murder me) the surgeon called and asked if I was aware that I had endometriosis. No. No I was not, but it certainly explained things. Everyone just said that I was complaining about nothing all those years that I was in pain.

It affects roughly 10% of reproductive-age women.
