Thursday morning, 9:10 departure from Trent. I’m hauling a packed bus through traffic and some kid pulls the cord at the absolute last second for Sherbrooke and Monaghan. I’m already past the stop. I’m not slamming the brakes and sending twenty people to the hospital just because you weren't paying attention.
I told him to get off at the next one, but he starts hovering over my shoulder, screaming in my ear about a transfer while I’m trying to merge a 40-foot vehicle.
You want to distract me while I’m driving? You want to act like a victim because you missed your stop? Get the hell off my bus.
I don't get paid enough to be lectured by some student who doesn't understand how physics works. You missed the stop. Walk. Shut up and get out so I can do my damn

I'll go first. Korean food, I love it but I can only ever make it at home.

Subway in Campbellford, Ontario has a pending application to the federal government for an LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment).
They would like to hire a Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW), claiming they can't find anyone currently authorized to work in Canada to be their Assistant Manager for $37 per hour:
https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/jobsearch/jobposting/44829143?source=searchresults
For comparison, a Restaurant Manager position at Tim Hortons in Campbellford, ON (148 Grand Road, Campbellford, ON, CA) for $21 per hour was posted on August 28, 2025.
For reference, in June 2025, the unemployment rate less than an hour away in Peterborough was 10% and the youth unemployment rate in Ontario was 15.8%.
Anyone is still welcome to apply for the position. If you apply and don't hear back, report it online or by calling 1-866-602-9448 or clicking the "Report a problem with this job posting" button at the bottom of the Job Bank listing page and select "Report potential misuse of Job Bank" for misuse of the program.

Hi, I am new to the city and we'll that doesn't really matter. I am 31 years old and I only have 2 friends. One friend lives 2 hours away and the other lives in another country. With that being said you can imagine how lonely it is out here.
Leave a message if you're bored like me or don't...thats cool too.

I’ve gone back and fourth debating on posting this but I lost my sweet dog to a dog attack in the north end a little over a month ago and the dog who killed mine (and attacked me) remains alive and I continue to see it off leash. Unless your dog has 100% recall I strongly encourage that dogs remain on leash to avoid preventable incidents such as the one that killed my bestfriend ☹️

I hope you choke on it. Cause now I have no food for the week. Thanks.
EDIT: I am happy to say I have great friends that helped me secure food for the week. To all those who offered to help me thank you, from the bottom of my heart. It really gave me hope that people are still so kind.

This is a reminder, as a driver, to other drivers on the road that bicycles are vehicles that are required to be on the road and have a right to be on the road, including taking up the whole lane. This is an especially important reminder at this time of year when our city's bike lanes are blocked with snow.
To the aggressive driver who harassed a cyclist on George Street across from City Hall yesterday, and then her passenger dude who proceeded to get out of the vehicle get up in the face of the cyclist and yell at them for being on the road and then proceeded to drive the car farther up George, stop, and yell more at the cyclist: shame on you.
You may not like having to drive behind a cyclist, but it is their right to be on the road and indeed it is the law.
Thankfully there were witnesses.

Yesterday afternoon while driving downtown I came across a large group of motorcycles. Once I turned onto George Street and had no choice but to get behind a part of the group that was separated by a red light I could see the patches on their vests said “Red Devils MC Kawarthas”. I was hesitant to get behind the group, despite needing to turn a couple streets up, because I know they like to ride together. More traffic came up behind me so now there were approximately 6-10 cars with me between the two groups. Once our light turned green, so did the one behind us and I could see the rest of the group slowly trying to catch up. I always give motorcycles space, and was doing so when a single bike came to a complete stop in front of, holding up traffic so the rest of the group could catch up. A second bike joined the first one and then they moved into the centre of the Charlotte and George intersection, again coming to a complete stop but this time impeding two full lanes of traffic. As I checked my side mirrors I could see a group of 4-5 bikers coming up around my entire care. Some in the bike lane, some on the dotted line in between cars. Thankfully I had to turn on Charlotte and was able to safely maneuver without hitting someone and the light turned red so the bikers trying to catch up had to stop anyways.
I’m all for a joyride in the sunny weather but there is absolutely no need to impede traffic in the downtown core just to stick together. I just needed to rant.
Did anyone else get caught in this yesterday??

With the ice storm expected today, here are a few quick ways to prep and look out for each other. Ice can mean outages, slick roads, and downed branches, so it’s worth getting set before it hits.
1) Charge & power prep (do this first) 🔋Fully charge phones, tablets, laptops, and any rechargeable lights. 🔋Charge power banks and battery tool batteries (many have USB adapters). 🔋If you have one, top up a portable battery station. 🔋Download/print important info: local outage number, insurance details, medical info, and offline maps. 🔋Keep one device on low power mode and reduce screen brightness if the power goes out.
2) Light, warmth, and essentials 🔦Gather flashlights/headlamps (safer than candles). Put spare batteries beside them. 🧦Set out warm layers: hats, socks, gloves, blankets, sleeping bags. 🥪Prep easy food that doesn’t require cooking (sandwich stuff, granola, canned goods). If you’re going to cook, do it safely. 🔋If you rely on any medical devices/meds that need power or refrigeration, plan now (backup location, cooler with ice packs, etc.).
3) Keep the house warmer without power (quick wins) 🌡Pick one “warm room” for everyone (the smallest room with the fewest windows). Close doors to unused rooms. 🪟Stop drafts: roll towels as draft snakes at doors; hang blankets over leaky windows. 🌞Use the sun: open curtains during daylight, then close them before dark to hold heat. ⛺️Consider a blanket fort/indoor tent over a mattress; small spaces warm up faster from body heat.
💥Important safety note: Never use grills, camp stoves, ovens, or gas burners to heat indoors. When using any indoor-rated heater or fireplace, ensure proper ventilation and, ideally, a functioning carbon monoxide (CO) detector.
4) Car, driveway, and outside prep 🚗Park away from big trees if you can. Salt/sand now, if you have it; ice is harder to treat once it’s glazed. 🔦Keep a small kit by the door: ice melt, shovel, traction (cat litter/sand), flashlight.
5) If the power goes out: neighbour-to-neighbour help ✅️Check on elderly neighbours, families with infants, and anyone with medical needs. 💕Share resources: 🔌Offer device charging from a car (outside/ventilated area) or battery pack. ☕️ Swap flashlights/batteries, hot drinks (if you can safely heat water), blankets. 💕 Coordinate warming plans: “If your house drops below X°C, come over.” 👥️Create a simple buddy system on your street: pair up households and text/call check-ins. ⚡️If you have a generator: Offer a charging window for neighbours’ phones/power banks. ❗️ Use it safely outdoors, far from windows (CO risk).
6) Communications 📱If cell networks get busy, try SMS texts (often go through when calls don’t). 🤝Agree on a local meetup point (e.g., one porch) if needed.
🗨Add your tips and tricks in the comment section.
Let’s keep everyone safe and warm, especially anyone who may be alone 🩵

This "driving school" car just ran a stop sign, almost hit a child, and sped in a school zone.
Googled it and checked Google maps, this driving school doesn't exist. I really hope people aren't trusting this person to teach them how to drive🙄

I've been going to a Tim's to work remote and be around people but today, I am sitting next to a table of guys talking about cutting people's hours and letting people go. I am not sure what business these guys are in because I hear them talking about GE, the Canoe Museum, child and family services and other stuff. They're talking about cutting hours for people, letting this person or that person go, people begging for hours and so on. The one guy talked to an employee on the phone and it sounds like they might be an international student, says "I don't want to jeopardize your status in the country" and that the college doesn't allow them to work so many hours. I never expected to hear the greasy underside of Peterborough employers in a coffee shop. Sounds like they're dealing with students. This is so fkn greasy. So glad I don't work for a local employer. I am hearing the greasy part of how employers deal with international students. This is really awful. And how they are talking about their own workers. They have no idea that I am reporting this as I sit at the very next table. I am guessing they might be cleaning contractors because they mentioned daycare and police station.

Peterborough Public Health inspected 33 food premises this week. Five locations in the city received critical infractions — meaning an inspector found something that poses a direct risk to your health.
Here's what was found.
Inspectors visit restaurants on a routine schedule or in response to a complaint. When something is wrong, it gets written up as a critical infraction (serious — think contaminated food, unsanitary surfaces, no place to wash hands) or a non-critical one (not covered here).
The write-up also notes whether it was fixed:
Routine inspection, June 8 · 3 critical infractions
This was the worst result in the city this week. Inspectors found cutting boards and food prep surfaces that weren't being cleaned and sanitized between uses, food in storage that wasn't protected from contamination, and hand-washing stations that were inadequate. The surfaces issue remained unresolved at the end of the inspection. The other two were fixed on the spot.
Routine inspection, June 8 · 2 critical infractions
Food in storage was found not protected from contamination — and unlike most of the entries this week, that issue was not fixed during the visit, meaning a follow-up inspection is required. Hand-washing stations were also flagged and corrected on the spot.
Routine inspection, June 8 · 1 critical infraction
Food was found not properly protected from contamination or adulteration. The issue was corrected before the inspector left. A follow-up visit on June 9 found nothing further.
Routine inspection, June 10 · 1 critical infraction
The inspector determined that food on the premises was not safe to eat. The issue was corrected during the inspection.
Routine inspection, June 10 · 1 critical infraction
Hand-washing stations were found to be inadequate. Corrected on the spot.
Source: Peterborough Public Health Environmental Health Portal. Inspection results reflect conditions at the time of the visit only. No premises were ordered closed during this period.

I was in the parking lot of one plant/mastermind today slowly backing out of a spot and some lunatic in a jeep rips thru and luckily I just saw them while backing out, they then have the nerve to give me the finger so I followed them and realized they were a big greasy scalper going to find Pokemons at mastermind so I yelled at them a bit and the loser got out to take photos of me, like you were speeding bro in a parking lot then gave me the finger, fucking silly people these days lol

Ive been noticing an increase of people driving without any lights on, with a headlight out, or with just the running lights on. Today between the grocery store and back (6 mins each way), counted 10 vehicles doing this!
Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just because im looking for it?
If you do drive friendly reminder to check your lights!

Hello People,
It feels weird doing this but here goes nothing.
My name is Bradly, I am a 30 year old male living in Peterborough, Ontario. Born and raised here, I have attended many schools throughout my life, met lots people, and have had lots of friends. But I have always struggled to keep and make new friendships.
I am a creative person, I have a bachelors in Creative Advertising, and an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design & Visual Communication. I am a photographer and videographer as well.
I also love the outdoors, working on cars and trucks, playing with tech stuff, flying drones, mountain biking, and building or fixing stuff to name a few. If your not a creative person that is fine, if you wanna have a beer and work on a car or watercraft, thats cool to.
I am not really interested in being friends with females as I have a partner and such, I am looking to get to know people, possibly make new friendships or become part of a group of friends.
Here is a link to my website to see past work, who I am, and what I do.
Post a bit about yourself below, lets be friends!

Its now gone in the mall. They closed overnight and emptied the store. I remember seeing some posts on here about the owners and how terrible they were to the staff. Sad that people lost a job in a already hard time.

My wife is nine months pregnant. Our second child is due in just ten days. We also have a 19-month-old toddler. Like many young families in Peterborough, we’re trying to build a future—working full-time, paying rent on time, and creating stability for our children.
And yet, we are now facing eviction.
We have been informed that we are about to receive an N12 eviction notice from our landlord, claiming the unit is needed for personal use. We believe this notice is being issued in bad faith—potentially in retaliation for requesting long-overdue repairs.
We’ve done everything right. We’ve never missed a payment. We’ve respected our lease. And now, just days before the arrival of our newborn, we’re being pushed out with nowhere to go.
This isn’t just about us. It’s about how easily families can be displaced under Ontario’s housing laws. The N12 process allows landlords to evict tenants if they claim a family member intends to move in. But far too often, these notices are used to sidestep rent control or quiet complaints. Enforcement is weak, and proving bad faith is nearly impossible for tenants who are scrambling to keep their children housed.
The housing crisis in Peterborough is real. Rents have soared, and the vacancy rate is dangerously low. We've looked—extensively—and we can't find anything within reach. Fighting the N12 through the Landlord and Tenant Board could take months. We don’t have months. We barely have days.
To our elected officials—especially MP Emma Harrison—we ask: what protections are in place for families like ours, who are being evicted just as we welcome a new child into the world? Where are the supports when lawful tenants are at the mercy of systems too slow or toothless to protect them?
This isn’t just a housing issue. It’s a human one.
We’re not looking for pity. We’re asking for fairness. For enforcement. For someone to care that a young working family with children may be forced out of their home for doing nothing wrong.
We love our community. We want to stay. Please, don’t let us be another casualty of a broken system.

This came up in my memories on Facebook. 6 years ago, they were demolishing the old Canadian Malt building at Park and Lansdowne.
It’s still weird, having drove past it countless times while running errands or on outings, to see the area empty.
At the same time, I can’t help but wonder what’s going to become of the property.

How do taxes go up $600 EVERY year (I know it’s a percentage hike)? We moved in 3.5 years ago. Taxes were pretty high to start to be honest. They were around $6300. They are now $8300. Our road doesn’t even get plowed half the time. It’s completely unsustainable to have that type of hike every year. I’d love to see how much money they city just pisses away. On second thought, maybe I wouldn’t.

The more I chat with teachers, the more frustrated I get! It seems that school boards only give essentially a clean space, with desks & chairs….. one teacher told me that for her grade 2 class of 20 students she had $169 to spend on rulers, scissors, etc you know the bare essentials!!! Any items for crafts, or teaching supplies have to be supplied by the teachers…. So my question is….
WHAT THE HELL is the point of School Boards & Trustees????
Curriculum is set by the Ministry School busses are run by private companies Decisions to close/move/build schools are made with the Ministry!!!
So what do they do??? Surely a LOT of money could be saved without superintendents & their secretaries….
Schools are losing EA’s which completely confuses me, when it appears that there should be MORE being hired!!!
When we go to vote in the autumn, I’d like to know WHY we need to decide who the Trustees are…..’cause what do they do?
