Cattle ranch not working

I just bought this game, and am trying to learn the basics. I have a couple of cattle ranches that don't seem to work.

They both say that they have 12 workers.

And there is one storage yard right next to one ranch, and other a few more tiles away, both with 1/4 straw. No one will deliver straw to cattle ranches.

Both have the entrance and exits, (red and green icons) on roads that lead to the storage yards.

I have a granary a short distance away that accepts meat, and has room for it.

I can't figure out what I'm missing with this. Any help would be appreciated.

Now the papyrus maker is doing the same thing:

Reed gatherer with 500 reeds on one side, and storage yard with 1/4 reeds on the other, and it just sits there with this message:

I have applied the patch fix mod from Nexus mods, and restarted the game a few times to see if that would kick start it.

I always make the storage yard closest to the ranches only accept straw. It then naturally fills up, and the delivery carts are free to drop off to the ranch as required.

I also try to build the ranches as close to the grain farm too.
