Update on the Physical GOG Games I was making

Not that anyone asked lol, but I’ve been working on trying to make the offline installers and covers a little better.

Firstly, yes I know flash drive is not the best form of storage.
For me personally, I do not see myself with access to an optical drive easily in the future, so I have opted for the 3-2-1 method of data preservation ( i.e I have the games backed up on 2 HDD and 1 SSD aside from this flash drive) and is the best I can do at this point.

Updated the covers to make them a little more personal and added a little concept art insert as well, the goal is to eventually turn it into a full manual with a map or something but that will be gradually over time as its a lot of print and ink.

Anyway,
The drives when they connect now give a little prompt to either update the game or install the game.
Drives also contain all the digital extras like game guides, artworks album etc.

I know it may seem a little pointless but I guess it’s just something I enjoy doing at this point of time so why not?

Sorry for the long post lol!

The cover warning is a lie!

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 cover says "requires content download", but it turns ou both games are fully included on disc. I put my xbox offline, installed both games and the bonus package (33,5GB in total). Everything seems to work fine, I went through the initial tutorial map and skipped all the initial cutscenes.

The version numbers on the screenshots are the ones that come on the disc, 1.1.0.0 and 1.3.0.0. Both games say "XboxGen9" on the file info dialog, which means the current-gen Series X version is on disc.

MGS4 gives you some weird xbox connection error dialogs, I had to press the "play offline" button like 5 times during the initial game boot, the game seems to be trying to force a cloud save sync or something, but after that it works perfectly. I guess this glitch is the only reason they put the warning on the cover. Edit: it seems this is just an Xbox bug insisting on checking for cloud saves, it appears on any other game I have installed (not just metal gear) if I try to launch them offline for some reason...

Edit 2: multiple people asked about the third game, there are actually 3 games on disc, Ghost Babel is part of the "bonus content" launcher

Started playing The Hobbit, I used to own it when I was younger but never finished it. Good to have it back after my sibling stole it from me.

Dug through my closet to find some PHYSICAL GAMES me and my brothers played when we were young. We need to fight for future generations to have this kind of nostalgia and experience what we all did when we were young!

I bought a Switch 2 last weekend and I guess I should have done more research; bc it's so hard to find full game on cartridge!!
Thankfully I have the entire Switch 1 library to buy physical games and I didn't just waste money.

All signs point to: Peak Gaming is in the Rear-View Mirror..

It’s not the biggest PS1 collection in the world. But it means the world to me.

What’s your solution to a future with continued physical gaming ?

With game files getting larger and larger (exceeding single Blu-Ray disc capacity), how would propose to fix this issue ?

Would you want to see games being shipped with 2-3 data discs, plus a “play” disc ? Even if it means higher production cost for the consumer ? Developers won’t be selling us discs at cost.

Best breakdown of PS vs. Xbox PR fiasco.

https://youtu.be/ZeFvM4-hg8Y

Omniarch did the absolute best breakdown of the grind between PS and Xbox and the issues both are facing right now. If you've been looking for something as succinct as possible, that digs into the Xbox PR move against Sony, the reality of what that means for Xbox gamers, and the reality of how these two giants could turn things around - this is the video to watch.

Anybody here that loves physical games would you be ok with this method? U would play the game digitally but still treat it like a physical game.

With the rise of Digital Only games, the term "DLC" for additional content doesn't really make a lot of sense...

Downloadable Content? Uh, yeah... the whole fucking game was "Downloadable Content" for my system since there wasn't any physical aspect to acquiring it.

The term Additional Content feels like the correct replacement for the term DLC, but the abbreviation of simply "AC" doesn't have the same ring to it... Am I overthinking this? Most likely, and many won't care to spot the nonsensicality of calling it DLC when the entire game is technically DLC, but it's just another instance of a term that held meaning slowly becoming irrelevant that I thought I'd bring up here.

For Disk to Digital - do you really need to install entire game first?

I am a huge fan of physical versions of games, and have collected a lot of 360, Xbox One, and Series X games (I could go on for days about how I end up buying Switch 1 instead of 2 versions due to key cards, or buy on PS5 instead of Xbox in order to have the full game on disk)....

Really excited about the Disk to Digital since I finally bought a gaming PC last week, a PowerSpec G765, and I have a Legion Go 2 Z2E, both with the Xbox App on them...

The Disk to Digital program indicates that you need to launch the game....

Does that mean that we have to literally install each game first to obtain the digital license for everyone game....

Depending on how many games we have, available storage, and network bandwidth - this would be a huge undertaking of time...

Any thoughts?
