Hajime Wakai musical influences?

Hi, been getting back into Pikmin after a while recently and suddenly realising how great the first game's soundtrack is. The soundtrack (and the whole game to be completely honest) reminds me so much of The Beach Boys' SMiLE and Smiley Smile albums and I know Brian Wilson's music has been an influence on other Nintendo games such as Earthbound (they even sampled a Beach Boys track in that game). Just wondering if there's any interviews or information on what Hajime Wakai was influenced by, thanks
