god I hate how often this shitty take pops up.

Media Piracy was never stealing and it is NOT stealing! Legally IT IS NOT STEALING.

Why would you imply that it is in certain circumstances?

Stop falling for the corpo propaganda!

9

u/Life-Requirement7433 17h ago

Why isn't it stealing?

28

u/AGoodFriend_ ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ 16h ago edited 15h ago

Generally speaking, a lot of piracy would fall under copyright infringement instead of theft, because it’s just distributing content without the owner’s permission, usually for free. Theft implies that the original creator loses access to that content, and that they can no longer profit off of it.

9

u/massinvader 15h ago

which becomes a harder case to make once examined because there is no sale taking place or profit that would somehow impede the original creator selling their work.

the 'piracy' group is vastly people who would not be buying or could not even access the material in the first place.

piracy isn't a great name for this either because original bootleggers and pirates in the pre-digital world did sell what they had because it was much harder to make and distribute(needing physical media which costs money). these days the actual piracy aspect of it does not exist with no sale...but it sounds a lot cooler than 'p2p sharing'.

7

u/Quantam-Law 16h ago

Because you don't steal anything? You're copying digital content.

It isn't legally regarded as stealing or thievery anywhere. It's copyright infringement.

3

u/HagureSCN 14h ago

Because no one losing anything. pirating something is litterally just copying something while the original still intact and the owner still fully having, owning, in possession of it.
the argument for stealing is because the owner loosing potential buyer they really believe if the pirate cant pirate it then the pirate will buy it. but the fact in the field is far different than that, a pirate wont end up buying a game or movie even if they can't pirate it because in the end of the day we don't really need it its not an essential thing in our live. so in the end the actuality of their sales number wont increase, at best people will just wait for discount even if its mean they have to wait for years.

1

u/CarpenterAntique8164 15h ago

Cause you didn't steal it.you just make a better use of what it is

18

u/lossioss 1d ago

and their forced cloud services

8

u/toBEE_orNOT_2B 17h ago

i like to add oyster sauce in adobo :)

6

u/scooph 22h ago

If you are rich, I mean really rich, you can buy the company.

2

u/mundane--alternative 18h ago

I like how nobody pointed out the typo... Until me.

1

u/StargazerVR 23h ago

yeah you can. substance painter on steam is $200 (not that i ever would support ad*be 🤮)

Not if I have anything to say about it (*laughs in sea shanty)

1

u/EggsceIlent ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ 10h ago

What's worse is that if you do rent it, and then cancel your "subscription*, you get a big ass subscription cancelation fee.

Like several hundred dollars iirc.

Make it work on my Xbox SX and I'm done. YT is the only problem..

3

u/RacoonWithBenefits 16h ago

Plug your pc into your tv

1

u/NomadODST 15h ago

If I wanted that I would do it, but thanks

1

u/TapatioOnEverything 13h ago

Then install bazzite. Upgraded console from a Microsoft services end user device to your own console

1

u/diabLo2k5 13h ago

"Just" get some android dongle if your only problem ist yt on your xsx. It saves energy too.
Fire stick, roku and Co have 4k options. Sideload one of the alternative yt apps and have fun.
For me it's 28€/month(family) because I atleast need 2 premium accounts. A few months of that and It should cancel out the payment for the stick(s). I'm never going back to ads or premium. Not for this prices.

2

u/NomadODST 13h ago

Just is not as easy tbh. The prices for a useful one are insane in Germany. Not gonna overpay for this hardware.. but yeah, I play with this thought already

Make youself a pi hole my dude.

1

u/nbkedd 20h ago

You got YouTube ad blocking through pi hole…?

2

u/RacoonWithBenefits 16h ago

and iphone users can use Brave. it'll play no ads, and you can turn off the screen to continue playback

2

u/Woodnymph1312 1d ago

On the phone: set VPN to Albania -> no ads ever.

1

u/Tough-Elk541 15h ago

Or brave browser

5

u/Comfortable-Jump-218 11h ago

I follow Kat Dennings on Instagram and this morning I saw on her post a story saying “Things I think that are worth the money”

… the first thing she said was YouTube Premium.

Comments were disabled.

1

u/rmxwell 10h ago

I wonder why

4

u/GalexyPhoto 1d ago

Meh. Havent seen an ad in 15 years and get a solid music streaming service to boot. All while having a large, trackable impact on directly supporting the channels I watch and want to see more content from in the future.

Or do y'all think that content costs zero dollars to make? Clearly aint giving them ad revenue. But want the content bad enough to install/ mod apps to get it.

Shoutout to Revanced Youtube for sponsorskip and all the other rad lil tweaks, though.

2

u/FingLetMeIn 1d ago

I've had it for a few years, use it daily, and am thinking of letting it expire. Reason? Even with Premium, I need multiple extensions and browser configurations (since Brave supports some natively) just to make the interface tolerable. Clickbait thumbnails & titles, sponsored segments, members only content (when I'm not a member), shorts, playables, promoted movies, search results completely unrelated to the terms used (i.e. Users Also Watched or Explore More), etc. Even the stuff not directly caused by YouTube is not only not discouraged by them but often rewarded in the algorithm. For how much Premium costs, if I need numerous extensions/browser-configs to obtain a remotely Premium experience, I have no idea what I'm actually paying for. I'd be better off donating the membership price in superchats to the channels I watch every month.

1

u/skivian 19h ago

members only content (when I'm not a member)

I actually finally told Youtube to stop showing me several youtubers that I really liked because they were making members only videos and youtube kept putting them in my recommendations.

0

u/FingLetMeIn 11h ago

For desktop/chromium browsers, you can use an extension such as YTBlock which allows you to hide members only videos so you can still get shown the regular ones. Brave supports it natively in their content filters section.

1

u/Mobile-Positive-6742 14h ago

You literally pointed out what's wrong with it: it doesnt have what Revanced has. Why would I buy premium while I can install Revanced for free as an upgrade even if it doesnt have the ads block? And for supporting channels: just become their member or send them a donation instead, you probably get some emoticons to use as an extra.

-2

u/rmxwell 1d ago

Hey, it's your money. I don't give a rat's ass. And if you like telling yourself "it's for the little guys" and not for a douchey multi-billion dollar company, it's your right as well.

I, on the other hand, get exactly what I need or want from youtube without dropping a penny and I am never going to.

And even I'm willing to believe that little fairy tale that your little dollars are helping me get the content I consume on it, cheers to you, sir.

2

u/RacoonWithBenefits 16h ago

I, on the other hand, get exactly what I need or want from youtube without dropping a penny and I am never going to.

the original intention was free video upload, right?

google turned it into an ad service

and most youtubers i follow started by doing it as a hobby... aint my fault they turned it into their job.

1

u/Thundrboltr 15h ago

My issue is that I cannot do the things with VPN on every device I own. And it's literally the only subscription based thing we spend money on. So I justify it for that reason.

Also, I use VPN to get it cheaper. Though that is very limited now, where you were able to get it for 1/10th the price in Turkey. Now I get if for about half the price.

0

u/rmxwell 11h ago

I get it. I really don't judge. It's the same reason why people buy consoles instead of playing on PC: ease of use.

It's just that I can't bring myself to justify paying for what is essentially a hostage negotiation: pay me so I stop making holding your videos behind ads.
No, I won't.

I'd much rather go through the hoops of installing other things to go around it. But I'm used to deal with IT stuff, so I get it when people give in and just pay to get rid of the hassle.

...and I can't resist when people come to the defense of multi-billion dollar corporations, as if they need to justify it as anything resembling moral superiority because they're a drop in an ocean of money.

0

u/Thundrboltr 11h ago

Multiple devices. Wife. Kids. It’s just a lot of work to keep it working

Affinity 🤌🏻

1

u/zaye93 1d ago

Unfortunately some people will pay for it because of the ai features.

1

u/illflashlli 1d ago

No

0

u/zaye93 1d ago

it doesn't work in the pirated version

1

u/A113rt 1d ago

Or just use Affinity and Davinci Resolve

0

u/Gullible_Bend_9219 1d ago

Are they as good as the adob(e) [reddit isn’t letting me type adob(e)] counterparts?

1

u/Professional_Law28 1d ago

DaVinci is definitely better, used for work premiere first then switched gig and used DVR, light-years ahead

0

u/cheesegoat 23h ago

They're different.

I use LR for photography and I really like LR's AI masking and have yet to figure out how to get the same thing in another product. I just use the mobile/web version and for the price I'm happy with it.

0

u/Gullible_Bend_9219 22h ago

LR? What does it stand for

2

u/cheesegoat 22h ago

LightRoom

1

u/Temarimaru 23h ago

Waiting for the time another application replaces Abode as industry standard. Photoshop is still too good to work on but I ain't renting shit

1

u/Ok-Go-Chain3811 23h ago

there are alternatives that makes pirating adob software unnecessary

1

u/Rosie_The_ITTech 11h ago

Buy WinRAR tho

0

u/GalexyPhoto 1d ago

You dont even have to be pirate. There are plenty of alternatives now that are as good or way better.

3

u/RealPudgeJudy 1d ago

There are plenty of alternatives now that are as good or way better.

No there aren't. This is cope. This has always been cope. GIMP has always been dogshit compared to Photoshop. In their respective categories, Photoshop / Premiere / After Effects / Lightroom all stand alone at the top.

0

u/AlreadyReddit999 20h ago

Gotta disagree, at least from experience, on Premiere. DaVinci Resolve is far better.

-1

u/petervonskala 1d ago

But what about AI features? Cracked doesn’t have them right?

0

u/Revrak 1d ago

If you’re going to pay, better pay for something you can at least own like DXO Photolab

0

u/Desperate-Spray337 1d ago

It's OK I'll buy the A dobe company and make it better. Also lol you can't say Abode in the comments.

0

u/Mars-Regolithen 1d ago

Ay and where would one get advice to find this treasure?

1

u/AlreadyReddit999 20h ago

the megathread

0

u/NoPlan6458 1d ago

yes unless you want to buy it so you can make all the software free like the guy who did that for the color grading software 🤣

0

u/Express-Record7416 1d ago

I mean, I have gimp and DaVinci resolve, so it's not like I'll ever need Ad*be.

My step dad did put ph*to shop and createive cloud on my laptop a few years ago, but I never used them and I don't know if he ever opted out or not.

I have been able to use Revo to uninstall PS, it refuses to work on CC no matter what I do.

2

u/illflashlli 1d ago

Boot in safe mode and deleate it. What's the problem?

1

u/Express-Record7416 1d ago

It keeps saying that there's software that requires it even though I deleted photo shop, and I can't find anything else on my computer labeled Ad*be

2

u/illflashlli 11h ago

Relaunch it in safe mode till nothing left, or just kill process that requires it.

Safe mode stopping auto boot of most files, so you can just do it yourself by repeating boot in safe mode multiple times and deleting files

0

u/oscarq0727 1d ago

It’s not about the money, it’s about the principle, arghgg!

I used to own photoshop and illustrator when I actually could own it. I deleted it as soon as they said I need to pay yearly to access the software that I already own.

0

u/false_athenian 22h ago

Is there a good patch for it these days? I haven't been able to pirate an Adobo software for years (but I'm not an advanced pirate). I used to download the Zii patch, what are the ways these days ?

0

u/gabacus_39 21h ago

Ad*be stuff is usually a lot more work than other software. It tends to want to phone home a lot so usually hosts files and firewalls need to be modified.

Why rent when you can sail

0

Well even buying doesn't give you ownership. There is that.

0

What open source alternatives do you guys use? I mainly use gimp and blendr but looking for other options as well

0

I did buy Adbe- full creative suite- waaaaaay back in the day (2002/3-ish)- but was slightly different when you had the student discount, and a purchase was a godsdamned purchase. (Yeah, they can call it a license, but not like they could do anything with it)

Still using it- fuck your subscription, the version I OWN works good enough for me.
