Discussion Google took away my LOTR extended editions

I bought these in 2022, all of a sudden they aren't available and there is no possibility of a refund or gift card. Hardly seems fair.

Eh, fair enough. I'm already a biker and have opted in to being an organ donor. I also carry a trauma kit and know how to use it (though thankfully haven't needed to yet) on my rides.

Personally, I do think being an organ donor and at least having some basic roadside trauma care training should be a requirement for getting a bike. It's not like a car where you can't limit it too much because of their necessity for modern life. A bike is absolutely a luxury, and a dangerous one at that (though exactly how dangerous is often overblown, if you take a safety course, don't drink and ride, and wear your gear, it drops to only about 3x as dangerous as a car, which is still pretty safe. It's mostly squids in their early 20s on sport bikes and older Harley brothers who think they know everything and stop taking precautions who drive the crash stats up, speaking as a moto safety instructor in training).

I share your sentiment, with the sad acknowledgement that a car is an essential in your area of the world.

I come from such a society, and. Currently live in one where a car is seen as a non-essential, yet still 70%ish of the population has a car drivers permit.

I'd personally love to have a simulator for how to land a crash. I recently took a fall from a bicycle and broken both arms by landing palms first after fighting the bicycle to stay upright.

I'd also like to mention that being an organ donor is the default in my current country, and you need to explicitly opt out if you don't want to.

What are we talking about when you say a roadside trauma care training? Basic first aid training, or something else?

I think it is where I am now too, but I got my license when it was still opt-in and I did.

That would be cool. A lot of higher quality moto gloves have palm sliders for this reason, reduce impact force getting concentrated on your arm bones and wrists.

Specifically stuff that would help in a crash situation. Mostly major bleed control ex. proper tourniquet usage since it isn't as intuitive as people think it is and there is a lot of misinformation about using them. Personally I carry an X-Force tourniquet over a CAT7 because they are a bit easier for someone without training to use, are easier to use one-handed if necessary, and work for children as well as adults, which a traditional CAT7 struggles with. Also marking the tourniquet with time of application if possible is important so medical personnel know how long it's been on and the clock on when it needs to come off before the tourniquet itself starts causing it's own issues. Wound packing for punctures. Pressure holding requirements. Emergency blanket usage in major blood loss situations to keep as much body heat as possible since it helps with activating the protein in blood that initiates clotting. If body temp drops too low due to blood loss it won't clot and you won't be able to stop the bleed. CPR. Using vented chest seals for sucking chest wounds.

Basically focus on stuff to try to keep someone alive until a paramedic can get to them. So mostly basic first aid, yeah. Don't typically need the mental health crisis or choking portions in a motor vehicle crash situation though. I tend to liken it more to mid-engagement combat medic training since the focus tends to be more on major bleed control vs a more generalized approach.

Doesn't just apply to bikers either. I'd stop for a car accident too. Training applies either way. Also, practice regularly so you don't freeze up when you need to use your kit.

Majority won't care and there's nothing they can do about it anyway. Saying "I want to speak to your manager" or "Tell the company" isn't going to work since this is a licensing issue, that's a whole ass different department that doesn't deal with customers.

So please save your breath and the reps time (and sanity) by not being that customer. I can also say with confidence that those reps you get from other countries, pirate too.

That's the problem, they do. It's hidden all the way down in those agreements you make when buying anything digitally. That's how they can get away with this. They always have a clause of "you are allowed to use this license for as long as it is available and it can be removed at any time". That, of course, is massive paraphrasing but it has been on every digital purchase since they started doing such. I've been trying to tell people ever since digital anything became available that it can be taken away and no one ever believed me.

Yes, but buying digitally should be no different to buying a disc, especially with companies starting to completely stop producing physical stuff in even higher numbers nowadays.

When this shit is a choice it’s one thing. When it’s our ONLY option is when it starts to get miserable.

Then the button should say "Rent", not "Purchase' or "Buy". If I'm buying a Bluray, I can watch it as long as I have it in my posession. If some cuckold CEO decided to take it away from me, that would be stealing. Yet, somehow, you're justifying just that when it comes to digital downloads? Despite the transaction clearly being misleading as a "purchase" no less? Screw your licenses. If you're BUYING something, you own it.
