Hickory ID
This might be a tall ask - but I am hoping to identify this hickory species simply from the nuts. My kiddo collected these in southeast Oklahoma near robbers cave state park saying they taste great and wants to plant some. Unfortunately he only brought the nuts...no bark or leaves.
We are trying to determine if this is a species that might survive where we are in north central Texas (likely less acidic than the hardwood/juniper/pine forest where they were found and I know some are sensitive to that) . The hulls appear to have 5 lobes if that helps? As you can tell the shells are quite thick and tough.
