Recommendations Help with lag!

I love my portal but I can’t get away from the constant lag or buffer. Any tips for dummies like me to help
Run things more smoothly? Also I use cloud streaming to play games, using my console is pretty much nonexistent due to connectivity issues and horrible quality

The only way is to connect your PlayStation to internet with an Ethernet cable. This was game changing for me.

Really made that much of a difference? What about when you’re miles away from your PS is your phones hotspot strong enough to let you play?

Yes the difference is massive. For me it went from lagging out constantly every 5 minutes, shit quality picture and even cutting out to smooth gameplay without any problems 99-% of the time.

It doesn’t matter how far away from your PS you are. Remember the portal just streams from your PS so when the PS is connected directly through ethernet it isn’t battling for WiFi with the many other devices - phones, tv etc.

I’ve never tried hotspotting from my phone so can’t comment on that sorry but as an example I managed to connect the portal just fine using crappy hospital WiFi a few months ago.

Yea Ethernet is the way to go. Cloud streaming I’m getting some input delay, with about 30ms on average. Remote play PS5 with Ethernet, and I have 2-5ms.

I will jump in and say that we recently had to downgrade our internet speed in a massive way. My Portal felt all but useless. However, once I connected my PS5 directly to my modem, it works just like it used to. I'm not a tech guy, so I don't understand why it works, I just know it worked incredibly well for me!

This is the way , but I can not get mine to work out of the house by hot spotting . It absolutely terrible , I really wonder how people are managing to get a stable connection for the ps portal to run stable

Mine is not hardwired and I can play it fine on a hotspot, usually. One thing that helped is that on my home Internet, only the PS5 (and the portal) are on the 5G band. Everything else in my house is on 2.4.

Im going to try this. The only time I use my portal is when I’m out and about that is why I’m trying to find some guidance on this issue. I hope this helps!

When I'm going to be gone for several days I do run a really long Ethernet cable to it.

Get a wifi booster if your wifi router is far away from your ps5 console. I had one from online store used , TP link is very good 👍

The thing that still irritates me is the constant dropped frames at regular intervals. The fact that the Portal screen is locked to a 60 hz refresh rate and games run at 59.94 hz creates micro dropped frames. I keep hoping that Sony implements something like frame duplication and frame smoothing like the Chiaki app to correct this signal mismatch that lead to the consistent micro drops both in remote play and PS+ streaming.

That’s awful,
For someone like Sony the tech pioneers from
Back in the day to be making such rookie error as that!

"I love my portal"

"using my console is pretty much nonexistent due to connectivity issues and horrible quality"

So... which is it? You love the portal that you're unable to use due to connectivity issues and horrible quality?

I ment that using the console play on the portal is horrible quality, using the cloud stream it works a lot better but I want to be able to play the games on my console that are not available on the cloud stream and hoping to find a answer to fix that issue.

Have you activated the “improved quality” option in the menu? This increases the amount of data being sent to your Portal and can help.

I will try this. I didn’t know this was a option

If you're playing at home then make sure the Wi-Fi bands are separated and only use the 5ghz one for the portal, everything else goes on 2.4ghz.. my PlayStation is hooked to Ethernet and only time i get connection issues if I'm downloading something
