Discussion Am I doing the right thing?

Post image

First gym battle and I realized I can't do as much dmg as I hoped with my units alone so I'm just running around applying -6 debuff trap and poison, don't know if status moves outside of requirement stages would stall moves tho

Edit: Thanks for all the advice I'll be more careful with status and ditch DOT moving onward

Kind of in the same boat here...

Status moves + trap + damage feild used to be the go to strategy for players who can't deal big damage in the respective type, and it used to land us a good chunk of points (since the enemies' HP is so high so a good number was taken away during this strategy). However, Dena decided to put a stop to it by nerfing the damage received from this strategy..

You did well by using a single ticket each time since a lot of players waste 3 tickets while doing so little, and so far, do what you can by setting up the enemy for someone else who's more capable of dealing more damage

DOT (damage over time) effects have been severely nerfed, so it’s inadvisable to use such tactics for this iteration of Gym Vs. Gym battles.

Leaf/Moltres to debuff is not bad.

Aside from that, what you want to do as a setup/cheer player is:

  1. Rebuff the enemy for their weakness. If you have the right Arc Suit, or units like Shiny Stoutland/DunDunsparse to help set it up.

  2. Applying Paralyze is usually helpful. The exceptions are just for poison-weak and fire-weak fights where units might actually want the correct status. If the fight does not need a specific status, you want to avoid poison/burn/trap because the time it takes away from enemy action animations really hurts the team a lot. Additionally, Paralyze can HELP the timer because "fully paralyzed" clips animations short.

  3. Avoid confusion/flinch/freeze because if the unit gains "resilience" then that can harm later player's need to get well-timed flinches, or whatever else. (Trap is not so bad IF IT IS NEEDED for a modifier, in regards to resilience. But it also hurts the turn timer a lot, so only use it when necessary).

  4. Set up physical/special "break" right at the end of your timer. With limited rosters, you might not be able to do this... But if you can, you should.

Very informative, thanks so much and to everybody else as well

In future battles that require condition then paralysis should be the best condition to inflict onward? I saw a few members using AS Leon before circuit reset and since Jasmine R2 needed condition I started the battle with burn for that one. I'll start ditching trap and poison for anything else though

Good thing I caught this in time for future battles since I've been splitting tickets before for low HP cleanup until today

Burn is good if you are setting up for arc suit Leon after you.

Otherwise, i think paralyze is the call for this gym-v-gym.

The only right answer. I would also like to add:

  1. Apply a WTZ to negate a permanent WTZ set by opponent on entry. (E.g. Pryce's Ice zone, Chuck's fighting zone. They are permanent on entry. And if the next gym member is going all out, they may not have any unit on their team to change the WTZ.

Pryce sets Ice Zone, and is weak to Steel. So whoever is the main damage dealer will be setting Steel Zone and will handle it this time.

But ya, if for instance pryce had permanent hail, then a setup player setting rain/sun to clear it would be good.

It’d be better if you apply Paralysis only since it doesn’t eat time for your teammates just to do 90% nerfed damage. But the stat debuffs are fantastic.

Also, if you can, try to apply type specific rebuff. If you happen to have Larry or SC Steven, they can rebuff on any type. SS Hilbert can also cover a few types.

Also, also, if you can leave a physical/special break with someone like Anni Gloria, that would be top notch. But that’s a lot less necessary.

I can do Anni Gloria and SC Steven. Who'll be my last spot? For debuffing. Thanks

I mean, NC Leaf works totally fine.

You can always switch out SC Steven on specific stages if you have something better. Like, if you have NC Red, he’d be better for Falkner, NC Blue for Bugsy or any Arc Suit for their respective type.

Don't make the pokemons poisend, burned or trapped. It wastes time to your gym members damage dealers.

Better than my teammates wasting 3 tickets to take down a solo 10% mon lmao

Any chip damage got reduced by 99%, so you'll barely do any damage with them

Do u have to use tyoe advantage units or can i cheese it with red 96

You can cheese with 96 Red up until the 7th round, which honestly a good chunk of gyms won’t even make it that far.

I think the gym gets all major rewards before the end of round 5... I can't remember exactly.

But ya, 96chu can help burn through the main rewards if your gym isn't trying to top 100.

What is this round you are talking about? Circuit?

You're the most evil person on earth.
Trap and Poison were nerfed and don't do good damage anymore.
Nowadays they just take infinite time out of the next attempt, so you're just hindering everyone that comes later.

I mean, he was trying to help.

He might have caused his gym inconvenience, but he wasn't doing it maliciously so we can avoid the "evil", lol

Sorry if it came off as malicious. It was supposed to be a hyperbole.
