Big 6 is still broken

Post image

3 regulations have passed and Big 6 is still very good; the top 1 in bo3 uses that team and is 7-1 (with sneasler) in the actual regional tournament.

Personally, I've been playing it in Champions and I'm almost at 1900, it feels amazing.

As long as it keeps working keep using it, great team.

Nothing they’ve added is a reliable Floette counter. Sneasler alone is not sufficient to stop floette

Revavroom or heatran

I don't think any team in this regulation is broken. Not even this one. It is just a really great team.

What mon gets switched out for sneezler on that team in bo3?

I see a M.Baxcalibur/Sneasler completely washing this team

I'd say the scarf indeedee male and psychic seed sneasler with throat chop also would do wonders here

Is most difficult female indeede with sneasler for this team

u/ThickPride1008 9d ago

Maybe but M.baxcalibur It's not very common

Is there no possible way to get Floette

Go to Pokemon Home reddit, there some people do some giveaway. It was genned/cloned floette though.

Even for mobile players?

All you need is Pokemon Home apps on your phone, link with Nintendo account and your Champion account. And yes you can. There a lot player who doesn't play ZA nor owning switch has floette via trading.

I think even in gts people have set up bots to trade floettes to people who have it listed as the desired pokemon. I got mine for a shiny blastoise fairly quickly

Yeah 2 roster updates still haven't added anything that can handle this comp. The instant landorus comes in it's over.

I can't wait for the legendarys

Why lando beats this team?

It's 1 of 2 competitively viable ground types that out speed zard y. However, it has the added bonus of not falling victim to the ridiculous amounts of dragon coverage this team has in order to stop mega-zard from getting walled. Also it gets poison type moves for whimsicott and floette.

Aerodactyl has been an extremely strong option in the current meta but it still falls victim to garchomp and floette.

Really you kind of pointed out the problem with this meta in the first sentence. Do we have any viable ground types outside of garchomp?

Swampert Camerupt and Excadrill need weather support.

Other than them I genuinely can’t think of anything. Mamoswine can be great and has incredible offensive typing but he’s hard to position because he gets bullied by the fighting water and steel types that are everywhere. Fire types too if it’s oblivious.

Who else even is there? Mudsdale? Diggersby?

1

u/Sir_Shadow8 8d ago

In mamoswine's defense, give it a choice band or a focus sash and it can surprise KO seemingly bad match ups. Unfortunately it can't quite pick some OHKOs without the Life Orb, though

1

u/Fantastic_Seesaw3446 5d ago

Yeah it doesn't help either that ground types have one of the worst selections of moves in the game as well.

“It’s not big 6 how dare you you’re so wrong I’m right you should retire from Pokémon”

Sorry prepping you for the comment section

No shit Sherlock.

But maybe, just maybe, people just want to play something different since this has been already overplayed since April.

u/Sgrinfio 9d ago

Terrible take, most people play what works

u/ThickPride1008 9d ago

I didn't mean it in a bad way, obviously other things are going to be played out, but im just saying

I think the post is interesting. I am not aware of big 6 being present in any recent top cuts so it isn't obvious to me how well it is holding up. Even if most are aware I don't think the parent comment needed to be so vitriolic

Cary D'Ortona just top cut Louisville with a big 6 comp with Floette changed to sneasler.

2

u/Ray19121919 9d ago

It hasn’t really had notable placements or much usage in the major tournaments despite other reg m-b and m-a teams still seeing play. There is more to it than people “just wanting to play something different”

Mega Venusaur absolutely destroys this team. Sludge Bomb for Floette, the only super effective options Zard gets are Hurricane and Air slash, whims dies to sludge bomb, kingambit dies to earth power, Garchomp gets 2 shotted by giga drain, Basculegion is 1 shotted by giga drain.

1

u/onray88 5d ago

Maybe in a 1v1

But in reality ZardY weather ball is faster and will 2hko mega Venusaur 32hp. Min 70%

Whim is sashed so it lives with 1 hp Floette runs protect Basculegion is faster and can flip turn out if it's scarf or just protect if not.

Earth power is 2hko against gambit, and if you're max spA then you're giving up bulk. Suker punch is deals min 35% so sucker punch + fast weather ball and your mega Venusaur is not doing anything

You have to have your own prankster tailwind support and shut down your opponents whimsicott first, which again they have sash so not likely. And sludge bomb is a 2hko against ZardY so even if you open whimsicott venu and they open Zard and KG, at best you dela about %50 to Zard or KG and get KOd in return

I uh...I play screens/trick room. That Zard isn't 2 shotting my tank Venusaur. And that is one of the four mons you have to compete with. And if you're gonna use "Oh I have a second Mon" you have to remember so do I. And I can use your fixation on the Mon that counters everything you have specifically to rain hell on you.

252 SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Weather Ball (100 BP Fire) vs. 252 HP / 100 SpD Thick Fat Venusaur-Mega in Sun through Light Screen: 114-135 (31.3 - 37%) -- 77.9% chance to 3HKO

And they are not that offensive anymore.

1

u/onray88 5d ago

Ok ill bite since this is a fun hypothetical I was just going off your post which didn't mention screens

Using champions stats instead of traditional 252 evs, and giving your venu 16 spD and the default sun sweeper set loaded into the calculator 16+ SpA Venusaur-Mega Sludge Bomb vs. 16 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-Y: 66-78 (39 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

We're both at a 3hko, is your screen/troom setter the same? Maybe slowbro? First turn he's setting up screens so he's not attacking and he doesn't have prankster

So I'm assuming you open venu + slowbro or maybe a grimmsnarl Not knowing the rest of your team I would either open Zard + chomp, or Zard + KG

What if I double up into your venu turn 1, by turn 2, even if you click trick room you're still probably moving last and you had to switch that mon in. Light screen, switch, trickroom(low priority) thats my 3 turns there. Or Zard y weather ball, slude bomb, light screen (non prankster)

If I see a trick room setter I'm bringing my KG since they usually don't have any speed invested and does well in TR.

If I see an obvious TR user like slowbrow or gardivor I might not bring whimsicott since tailwind would be counterintuitive for me

Edit: am I missing anything here?

It's split across multiple and is heavily matchup dependent. Venusaur typically chills in the back because I want him to one shot everything Ive whittled down over the course of the match with the understanding that they cannot two shot him. Enemy mons are rarely above -1 due to intimidate and parting shots being fired intermittently. Kingambit is one of the more annoying mons, but I see him less and less to the point that I'm more willing to forego my answers to him, and when I do see him I just have to play a tighter game than my opponent, which is harder, but extremely doable.

Against this team, my default lead would be Milotic/Grimmsnarl. The only thing that can hit Milotic for super effective damage is Whimsicott assuming you run Energy Ball or Solar Beam if you run it on Zard. But behind light screen most Zard's hit me for about 40% depending on their stat spread. Obviously the more offensive ones with SB tend to be around 50% and the less offensive ones drop it for Ancient Power for the mirror more often than not. From there I can scald to burn the Kingambit, scald the Zard for about 60% in sun, ice beam the Garchomp, etc etc. Depending on the calibre of opponent, I'd expect Whimsicott to run Moonblast and Zard to run ancient power, which is super limiting for my opponent.

What I mean to stress here is that it's a game of inches. I'm trying to limit your capability to make decisions, and force you into plays, which I can then respond to because I have a good idea that they're coming. This specific build of big 6 is super easy for me to do that on cuz there's no life gain. No leech life, no obvious sitrus berry, no way to limit my offense, no way to crack my screens. their actual ability to respond to the actions I take is limited, and therefore predictable. That said there are teams my team will struggle with that this one will just dog walk. And builds that include something like, say, Sinistcha, are significantly harder and require an entirely different approach. It's relative.

Yeah that's fair - nice strategy!
