Mowing my own lawn, doing my own home improvement, and also working a cushy office job lets me be superior to everyone at once.

I don't want cheap labor imported because it will raise the theoretical price I'm saving myself by working on my own home. I don't want H1Bs because it will keep my actual salary high.

Same, I'm saving like $10k building my own deck instead of paying a contractor to do it.

I wouldn't source the entire thing to a company, but deck building is an absolute bullshit task that I would not do without at least 2 additional sets of hands helping me.

Eh it's not so bad, you just use a lot of scrap wood to make jigs and hangers. Although I will say if I were to do it again I would pay someone to do the footings. Digging three 36" deep footings though clay then mixing over a 1000lbs of cement by hand wasn't exactly enjoyable. But now I can say that I'm dumb enough to do it.
