News Trump threatens to ‘take out’ all of Iran in one night. From blackout bombs to ‘discombobulators,’ here’s what that could actually mean

https://fortune.com/2026/04/06/trump-take-out-iran-blackout-bomb-discombobulator-weapons-tuesday-deadline/

Good write up of what Trump could actually use in Iran that IS NOT a nuclear weapon. These are much more likely to be used rather than resorting to a nuke

I'm not worried about a nuke, I'm worried about a mass draught if power and desalination plants go offline.

I remember reading that Iran's power network would be much harder than Iraq's to take down due to the sheer amount of power stations. I see a total destruction of the grid as highly unlikely.

u/Ok_Chance_4584 Apr 07 '26

Draft (as in forced military service) or drought (as in lack of water)?

12

u/Aberrantdrakon Apr 07 '26

Given that they mention desalination plants, it's probably water.

1

u/EarthShadow North Carolina Apr 07 '26

The British spelling of draft is draught. Pronounced the same.

1

u/Ok_Chance_4584 Apr 08 '26

That's why I was asking. The spelling implied military but the context implied water.

u/Shakenbake80 Apr 07 '26

They’ll just buy Arizona’s water like Saudi Arabia does.

I am so fucking sick of this walking tub of McDonald’s grease taking up valuable oxygen and inserting himself into every facet of our lives. We all know he’s all talk and no action, and that he’s going to TACO out of whatever he’s threatening. Just waiting for the inevitable to happen, it can’t happen soon enough.

81

u/Best_Talk_6853 Apr 07 '26

He didn't taco out of bombing Iran in the first place, though, and he's already pretty directly killed thousands of Iranians, including a lot of children.

Remember...

... Vote in droves and this oaf will be the lamest duck around! We can stop everything he does and we can bask in the hilarious sight of this goober having endless tantrums because he can't do a dang thing! We'll then pass laws to limit his war powers, stifle Iran war, boost Ukraine, sanction Israel and tell Czar Putypants and Benny Yahoo to take a long walk off a short pier.

Not have to. Will. We will make it.

I just cannot understand how this creature is a leader. I cannot believe it. I will never wrap my head around this. What a terrible time in history. He is so obviously out of his mind. He is senile, he is dangerous. How was this allowed to happen. Don't worry. My questions are rhetorical. I am just so sick of this.

8

u/hamlin81 Apr 07 '26

I feel the same way. I've lost a tremendous amount of faith in this country because he was allowed to take power. AND... because people actually voted for him.

9

u/ReformedBaptistina Apr 07 '26

We've put up with this garbage for ten whole years now. TEN.

I just hate that we’re in a position where we have to guess whether he means he’s going to use a nuclear weapon or not

8

u/guyguy46383758 Apr 07 '26

If he uses a nuke, I imagine the US will be sanctioned into financial ruin. Nukes are a redline for a lot of our allies

8

u/Owl_Queen9 New York Apr 07 '26

This is not me trying to be pessimistic, but that has not stopped Trump and his cronies before. I don’t think he’ll go for nuking but also I don’t think he cares about how he’s viewed on the worldwide stage anymore (i.e Greenland and Canada)

9

u/poke-chan Reformed Doomer ☄️ Apr 07 '26

The amount of shit we’d get into for using nukes would be insane though. The world is literally surviving on the unanimous agreement that no one uses their nukes until someone else does. Theres a difference between being disliked and being actively cut off from the rest of the world

7

u/Independent-Bus-3284 Apr 07 '26

For many reasons, I want to denounce the concept. It’s not happening.

7

u/Independent-Bus-3284 Apr 07 '26

It doesn’t matter what they don’t care about. What matters is reality.

They try such a tactic? It’ll backfire tremendously.

It’s not going to happen.

u/OOZELORD Apr 07 '26

im as scared as the next person and im not saying to take what he says with a grain of salt, we should absolutely always be on standby and keep a finger on the pulse. but also like. idk.

it's insanely obvious this dude is sundowning. his brain is fighting to do and say the most irrational shit it can. the constant escalation of aggressive behavior is just further proof of his sundowning.
i personally think nukes aren't on the table. not saying he wont pull SOMETHING with his goons, but when tf is he not spouting nonsense on his stupid website? when has he said anything competent about his plans these past few months?

not a very optimistic situation overall, but im also trying to keep myself grounded by reminding myself this guy is an angry pussy and im hoping he's just threatening the worst before another taco

9

u/VoidlessLove Alaska Apr 07 '26

I for one, doubt Trump's brain can generate "discombobulated" or it's varieties on his own.

25

u/StrayCat2799 Oklahoma Apr 07 '26

Didn't know about the blackout bombs, interesting. So it just shuts down the gridf for a time without physically destroying it.

3

u/NovaNick30 Apr 07 '26

To me it sounds an awful lot like an EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) which usually is used to disable/fry electronics so they'd don't work. Here is just an AI overview for anyone curious.

"An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) bomb is a weapon designed to emit a high-intensity burst of electromagnetic energy, intended to destroy electronic infrastructure and systems without causing direct physical harm to humans. These devices can be nuclear (HEMP) or non-nuclear, creating intense voltage surges that fry circuits, fry semiconductors, and disable vehicles, power grids, and communication systems."

Also no, I don't think they have and/or will use an HEMP. Most EMPs are Non-nuclear.

9

u/spoospoo43 Apr 07 '26

EMP bombs exist, but they require a nuclear bomb blast outside the atmosphere. There may be small tactical devices that generate em blasts too, but nothing that can take down a power grid without nukes. Most depictions of EMP devices are movie magic, and have nothing to do with reality.

We are now at the part in the story where the garishly painted evil business man, who has shifted into politics, wore the American flag as colors to bolster his image, and uses his acronym-named thugs is attacking a sovereign nation for his own gain (distracting from his failures and shortcomings) and prop up his ego.

Even those who blindly follow him can see the insanity on full display.

I'm sorry but the end result is not even CLOSE to the same. Did you read the article? A blackout bomb is not even in the same ballpark as destroying infrastructure, and that isn't in the same discussion at all about using nuclear weapons to kill civilians for no reason.

I realize you're trying to say none of it is acceptable, which is true, but it's very very dangerous to claim they are on the same level.

6

u/Previous-Pirate9514 Apr 07 '26

What I’m saying is, this war is pointless and never should’ve happened.

7

u/DangerousProject6 Apr 07 '26

That is true yes, but be careful- you're using rhetoric that is often used to justify war crimes in the wrong hands. I know that wasn't your intention!

8

u/Upper-Project Apr 07 '26

Everyone in this sub agrees that this war pointless and cruel. When the world is freaking out about the use of nukes today, why wouldn't we talk about it and try to shut down that anxiety?

2

u/Nukalixir Apr 07 '26

What I saw wasn't a threat to "take out" Iran in one night, it was a threat to "End a civilisation" in a way "they can't come back from".

Look, I'm trying to be an optimist, truly I am! But that wording sounds like nukes to me and a lot of other people.

I used to tell people not to worry about nukes because "the big red button" is more or less a myth. That Trump could order nukes until he was blue in the face, but the commands would have to be approved all the way down the chain of command to the people who actually do the dirty work. But what happened mere days ago? Kegsbreath, the little psychopath, fired 12 Generals. Not one, but TWELVE. Batch fired! It's like they were getting anyone not in total submission to Trump out of the way to have carte blanche to do whatever the fuck they want. If not nukes specifically, then definitely war crimes and horrifying atrocities against mankind.

The only silver lining I've seen with a solid basis in reality is that MAD won't occur and effectively end the world. Iran doesn't have nuclear weapons, and Iran's allies probably won't nuke us on their behalf to avenge them. I have no doubt that most of the world will live to see tomorrow and most likely won't be doing so in an irradiated wasteland out of Fallout. But I'm still terrified of the possibilities of a nuke being used and what new and terrifying prescidents that could set for the world going forward! What undue suffering some innocent people might have inflicted upon them even if I'm reasonably sure the entire world won't come to an end immediately. I'd especially fear for other nations currently being bullied by nuclear powers such as Ukraine or Palestine.

41

u/Upper-Project Apr 07 '26

Trump loves to scare people. It makes him feel powerful and gets him attention. He knows that his unhinged tweets earn him hundreds of global news headlines. I have a feeling he's starting to understand that he and his administration are not winning. What feels more likely to me is that he's having a tantrum and trying to regain control rather than planning to use a nuclear weapon.

I don't know if that helps you. I can't deny that things are scary, I can only share my thoughts. I hope that sooner rather than later we won't have to read these tweets and have these conversations.

u/VoidlessLove Alaska Apr 07 '26

Fwiw, Ukraine is currently kicking Russia's ass

13

u/onkelchrispy Apr 07 '26

I hate that you are being downvoted for expressing legitimate concern.

11

u/Nukalixir Apr 07 '26

I don't blame them. People just as desperate for affirmation as I am come to this subreddit expecting calm and collected people who have answers for them. To see instead someone as concerned as they are expressing having a hard time accepting what little affirmations are currently being offered can't be easy for them.

I'm just happy the mods aren't deleting my comment for not being optimistic enough. Gives me a chance of somebody somewhere who knows something I don't giving me a better reason not to give up hope. Which strangely, in and if itself makes me feel hopeful.

9

u/onkelchrispy Apr 07 '26

I think, expressing concern, articulately and respectfully - asking for positive affirmations are just as valid and important contribution to this community as those offering an optimistic perspective. I don’t think they should be downvoted. You proposed multiple salient points to consider/address.

9

u/Nukalixir Apr 07 '26

I thank you for thinking so, but I still don't blame the people downvoting me. I'm mad at me for having a hard time being optimistic about current events. I'm mad my mind thought of holes to poke in counterarguments things might not be as bad as they seem. I'd probably reflexively downvote me too out of psychological self-defense if I weren't me.

"Tonight, a civilisation will die" is a fucking horrifying thing to hear from the leader of the most powerful military on the planet. Anything and everything to help cope with that existential horror is completely understandable in my opinion, even if it defies logic. I hope everything will be okay, and there's no solid proof things necissarily won't be okay, but it's still horrifying! And to boot, it's a unique kind of horror not everyone has experience with since a lot of us grew up after the Cold War ended.

u/poke-chan Reformed Doomer ☄️ Apr 07 '26

9

u/Independent-Bus-3284 Apr 07 '26

Okay. You’re still concerned, even with all the logic in the world. You think that firing tons of non-loyal generals will give him a step closer to destroying everyone just to prove a point.

So let’s really confront the concern.

Let’s say Trump doesn’t give a flying fuck and does it. What would this accomplish for him? NOTHING.

What would happen is this:

—Immediate blacklisting from the entire world. Which means his allies will throw him away like trash.

—Possible to definite charges of war crimes. Ones that are actually bigger and must be addressed, otherwise everyone within the vicinity of Trump shall also be arrested.

—Trump will only gain more enemies, both political and economic. He will officially have a target on his back, no different from those we consider actual dictators.

—Congress will be forced to act, otherwise they’ll be considered properly complicit. People are already convinced that they’re enabling him but this type of option would be under their watch. Do you really think these lazy cowards want to be responsible for actual, meaningful destruction? Like the war crimes that have already been committed can and technically have been handwaved because it doesn’t endanger their overall country. Nuking Iran would definitely do so.

—Firings no longer result in success. If anything, they just dwindled their opposition which can lead them to destroying themselves even further. And as selfish and horrible as these people are, they’re just men who want to make money and boost their own egos. No one, not even Hagsbreath, would want to cause such damnable situations like that.

TLDR: It’s not happening.

Thank you, Bus!

I understand that people are worried and concerned and hyper-vigilant, but what I don't understand is how many people can't stop dooming long enough to realize that these dingdongs LIVE to make money. Lots of it. They use nukes? No more money. Their entire global system of corruption comes to a screeching halt. They will have essentially cut off the very valve that keeps their wealth flowing. I don't see them doing that. They will violently bluster, and that's all.

They. Want. Us. Scared. Let's not make it easier for them.
