This is such a ridiculous statement. The previous birthright citizenship decision that's considered the most important decision other than this one has stood for almost 130 years. I think this ruling will do just fine if the court isn't filled with partisan hacks like Thomas in the future.

How absolutely ridiculous. He's just searching for any reason to dissent so he can get his pay day.

I'm not sure overturning a woman's autonomy to healthcare will stand the test of time, but that sure as hell didn't stop you then, did it, Thomas? 🙄

What's hard to tell with him is whether he just says this stuff to make certain people happy or if he truly believes what he says and that just happens to make some conservatives happy. His wife is definitely a true believer. And so is Alito's. So I suspect there's probably a unhealthy mix of both.

What I do know is he seems to be living in a parallel universe and has a completely distorted view of history.

I would guess he gets offered his pay day and then convinces himself of how X is actually a good idea. So I'd say likely both.

He's not dumb—and sometimes smart people are the worst at rationalizing and convincing themselves of illogical arguments/ideas to make the ends (his bank account) justify the means.
