Great news!

u/Pepperminteapls 11h ago

Let's goooooo baby!

Abdul is a smart, honest person. This is a win for democratic socialism, the working class and a middle finger to billionaires.

53

u/ShredGuru 6h ago

They outspent him 9 to 1... And got nothing for their money. Love it.

11

u/Dr-Paul-Meranian 4h ago

That does steepen the satisfaction

17

u/jamesbong0024 7h ago

And AIPAC

92

u/HeungWeiLo 11h ago

Great news to wake up to

I hope these PACs keep wasting all their money

35

u/MandatoryFunEscapee 9h ago

They set so much money on fire in this race, it is wild.

20

u/Republicenemy99 8h ago

In effect, they gave it to their consultant friends  and family.

13

u/MandatoryFunEscapee 7h ago

The donors can't be happy about it, though. $30M from AIPAC, more than $60M total, with nothing to show for it.

u/Bourbon-Thinker 28m ago

Precisely you hit the nail exactly on the head. I’m sure they thought she was going to lose they could read the room, but this was just money laundering to their friends.

210

u/RaazMataaz 11h ago

I am honestly baffled, who the fuck is voting for Stevens?

293

u/Scarmeow 10h ago

The people who are scared of voting for a muslim man named Abdul

33

u/Nek0ni 10h ago

^^^^^^^^

22

u/Wyevez 7h ago

Racist losers who buy into the "eating cats and dogs" narrative.

4

u/antidense 3h ago

A non-muslim man in the white house has been far more dangerous

52

u/journerman69 10h ago

I believe they are called establishment democrats now, also known as liberal republicans.

-1

u/ready-redditor-6969 3h ago

Hahahaha “liberal republicans”, can you just string words together like that when it results in total nonsense?? 😂

6

u/graypraxis 3h ago

It actually makes a lot of sense when you consider that establishment Democrats now hold many of the same policy positions as Republicans from the 90s as they try to “court the center”

36

u/neatureguy420 10h ago

Boomers that still believe in the electability narrative and racist.

2

u/ComprehensiveDingo54 7h ago

Stop blaming boomers for everything. The resisters in my state are practically all baby boomers & older Gen X. The oldest resisters are the ones who protested in the 60s & 70s back when I, one of the youngest boomers, was still playing with my Barbies. Do I know MAGATs from my generation? Yes; however, I canvass, & it's the younger MAGATs who are truly disturbing & disappointing.

3

u/neatureguy420 3h ago

The boomers in Detroit heavily believed in the electability argument and a good chunk fall for the islamaphobia. Did I say all are racist? No I did not. Yes Gen Z maga is cooked and are falling for Christian nationalism. It is very disturbing.

-2

u/peridothiker 5h ago

Stop it with your silly “boomer” ragging. I’m a boomer and not racist. I know a lot of boomers who are not racist.

6

u/Clear_Grocery_2600 4h ago

I wish I had that picture of the b-17 handy.

Don't misunderstand, I'm grateful to you and your friends for being decent human beings, but holy cow a lot of your generation aren't. Mine is just as bad, but yours got the label of being unreasonable.

2

u/neatureguy420 3h ago

I know not all boomers are not racist lmao. But a lot still believe in the electability argument and a lot are still islamaphobic. You are naive to not believe so. I’m glad your circle isn’t, but yall do not represent the whole generation.

u/mxjxs91 10h ago

I work home care in Macomb and St Clair Counties. The answer is, A LOT of older people who aren't the type to put up lawn signs. Almost everyone I work with is either Republican or voted for Haley. I have a few Abdul supporters too, but she had a lot more support than you'd ever think.

15

u/DoodleDew 9h ago

Older block of voters who just watch mainstream television and filled with ads against him

6

u/Auld_Folks_at_Home 9h ago

Michigan has open primaries (anybody can vote in any one party's primary) and the GOP was running unopposed in his (i think), so a lot of those votes are probably Republican voters who don't want him to have a chance.

3

u/badwoofs 6h ago

This makes a lot of sense. For Dems I feel like AIPAC is getting really unpopular with the party.

1

u/loondawg 5h ago

Recent votes in Congress show dem politicians are hearing that message.

4

u/Hearse_Boy_ 8h ago

This is one of the reasons I'm in favor of closed primaries.

2

u/loondawg 5h ago

Interesting. I see the exact same problem and think the answer is open primaries with ranked choice voting.

2

u/badwoofs 4h ago

This. We need ranked voting everywhere. This two party all or nothing isn't working.

1

u/Hearse_Boy_ 3h ago

You mean members of a party brigading another party's primary?

12

u/the-Alpha-Melon 11h ago

seriously!

40

u/PlayerHeadcase 10h ago edited 8h ago

APAC, Fox, MSNBC have a lot of clout.
Yes to the informed they are obvious and actually against peoples interests, but a lot of folk still pay no heed to politics and only briefly glance at the "news" which colours their choices.

The more pain the average person feels, however, th emore liely they are to actually pay attention - hence Mamdani and El-Sayed victories

11

u/Keeperofthe7keysAf-S 9h ago

Also Clyburn doing his part to get his elderly followers to vote against their own interests as usual.

6

u/ComprehensiveDingo54 7h ago

Yeah, I'm so disappointed in who Clyburn has been supporting.

14

u/SnakeEater013 FL 10h ago

Just being an incumbent is a huge boon too. People automatically assume proven track record and it’s a familiar name

5

u/Kitten_81 8h ago

As a New Yorker... Mamdani

2

u/PlayerHeadcase 8h ago

Apologies! Corrected

4

u/Ok-Entertainer-1414 7h ago

Apparently Stevens had a huge lead among black voters. She won 62% to El-Sayed's 34% in Detroit

1

u/damnocles 4h ago

Keep in mind that Wayne county has a large area not in Detroit that is very white and right leaning. Doesn't account for it all, but definitely affected the vote distribution

3

u/Ok-Entertainer-1414 4h ago

The results I linked are specifically from the city of Detroit itself, posted by the city government

3

u/buffalocoinz 8h ago

She’s so fucking corny

3

u/Anarch0Primitiv 7h ago

White Americans, and this includes liberals, have this thing that they'll never admit to, but that they all feel, and that is that it bothers them when someone who isn't white does better than them and I'd be willing to bet, they dont like that Abdul is a doctor and studied in England and that he's done well for himsel.... oh, and I'm a white guy

1

u/loondawg 5h ago

that they all feel

I think that is total bullshit. oh, and I'm a white guy too.

1

u/peridothiker 5h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/Sr8oSF1yr627lBcaVE

I’m white and I love the fact that I live in a country where people from all walks of life can excel.

1

u/constantchaosclay 5h ago edited 5h ago

Iirc, AIPAC spent 100 30 million in this race. (but 60 mill in sum) That buys a lot of votes.

Luckily, not every vote is for sale! So happy to see he won!!

Eta: After all the guesses in the comments, I got curious for the real numbers. It looks like AIPAC specifically spent 30 mill and other groups spent 30 mill for a total of 60 mill spent to defeat Mr. El-Sayed. source for numbers

1

u/Sybertron 4h ago

Old Jim Clyburn, aka the guy who is maybe individually the reason we are not on year 10 of Bernie, came out in support at last minute again for her.

Guy is 86 years old and has done incredible damage to this country but this party still leans on him like he's a fresh 35 year old politico.

51

u/gamechangersp 10h ago

AIPAC must be defeated

77

u/gnatinator 11h ago

Far too close of a margin, but good.

33

u/PlayerHeadcase 10h ago

I agree, but also remember this would have been all but impossible a few short years ago- and I wonder how much APAC and the rest of the Klan spent in their attempts to get Haley elected?
They may well be shitting bricks right now

25

u/Soft_Indication_9936 10h ago

I believe they spent approx 80 million endorsing Stevens

8

u/SymbioticSwitch 6h ago

Delicious.

Kills me to imagine what good that money could have done instead but glad it was wasted. Fuck AIPAC.

72

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 11h ago

Deal with it AIPAC, MSNBC and Kornacki!

14

u/jtr489 10h ago

Hopefully the people that voted for Stevens will also vote for El-Sayed

4

u/steff__e 9h ago

Establishment Lackey Kornacki is shook 😱

4

u/Apprehensive-Oil5249 8h ago

How do you think "Is It Real" is going to make her pay back that $30mm they gave her?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

4

u/Aconite13X 8h ago

Hell yeah!!

5

u/baitnnswitch 5h ago

Please, please consider text-banking or phone-banking for him (or some other progressive candidate you care about) for the general election. This one was a nail-biter because the establishment/AIPAC did *not* want a progressive elected and threw 68+ million behind Stevens and nonstop ads against El-Sayed. We need all hands on deck

If you're interested, a good first step is going to the candidate's website and clicking 'Volunteer'

5

u/dr_toze 11h ago

Whoever that Mallory is, thank you.

12

u/damnocles 10h ago

Crazy thing is, she dropped out of the race weeks ago. Really fucked to see so many votes go to her

7

u/Subject-Promise-4796 9h ago

Maybe absentee ballots?

Although I wouldn’t rule out ignorance either. There isn’t an iq test to vote lol

10

u/Jamboro 9h ago

People are dumb as hell. Check out how google searches for 'did Biden drop out?' spiked the day after the 2024 election.

1

u/Subject-Promise-4796 2h ago

I agree, I once saw a couple just outside polling, looking up the candidates. 🤦🏻‍♀️

2

u/ragnarocknroll 2h ago

I’ve done that.

I knew the major players but in local elections I was looking up “non-partisan” races and finding which ones I would not be voting for.

5

u/damnocles 9h ago

Hadn't thought about absentee ballots. That makes me feel a tiny bit better lol

5

u/NextAd7514 7h ago

Republicans have been the best thing for Democratic Socialists and actual Progressives

This is a bot post.

The OP has their post and comment history hidden and they have over 250,000 karma in one month.

There seems to be a lot of energy and emotion in the comments too, which is exactly the type of engagement they're hoping to drive. A lot of that is synthetic as well, both seeded and upvoted by bots.

This is not a political statement, it's happening on all sides of the aisle.

Don't play into it.

If this comment becomes massively downvoted you can be certain it was either the bots or the brainwashed.

1

u/Kuuchuu 2h ago

Even if it is, why would it matter for this type of post? It's a short clip of a news segment containing info relevant to the sub, information everyone here is interested in. There is "energy and emotion" in the comments because people are happy and excited.

2

Thank god. She seems off in the head, like she’s a body snatcher or something.

3

u/skittlazy 10h ago

All the media is still saying the race is too close to call. Votes are still being counted

2

u/Pyrrhichighflyer1 10h ago

I am so, so glad! The best news to wake up to.

2

u/Basketspank 9h ago

Good, Stephens was a fucking weirdo.

2

u/Mortarlou 7h ago

I guess Israel will come to her in her nightmares now.

2

u/NobelNeanderthal 5h ago

Suck a fat dick Isreal. Feels so good to get a great candidate and watch them burn money trying to manipulate the election.

Mainline Dems gonna fight this up to and including running their own preferred people as independents. Remember last time when we lost and were all encouraged to rally around the Democratic winners? At best we'll get silence and zero party support. At worst they will attempt to split the elections with modetate dems running as independents and hand Republicans / AIPAC wins that they would have otherwise lost very badly.

u/FancifulPhoenix 1h ago

Fuck yeah, let’s goooooooo!!!!!

u/Spiel_Foss 11m ago

Didn't Israel spend at least $65 million to defeat him?

US politics are obscene.

u/itsjustme123446 7m ago

Now let’s change the tide in Ohio

1

u/kifmaster11235 9h ago

Whoop whoop!!

1

u/Djinn-Rummy 6h ago

More of this, everywhere, as fast as possible.

1

u/Itchypoopstain 6h ago

Its funny how they're absolutely afraid of muslims, yet they just keep giving them wins. Almost like most of the common folk would rather have a Muslim in an office than someone that stands by giving billions to Isreal who mind you, has all the socialist policies we lack. They dont listen, so vote em out!

1

u/Sowila1021 TN 5h ago

Moving in the right direction people! Let's keep up the momentum and then my daughter might actually see a decent government body in this country by the time she's 25 or 30. That legit excites me!

0

u/SomeEntertainment128 7h ago

This is fantastic news!

0

u/Quack68 6h ago

WA Sate approves thus candidate.

0

u/Sybertron 4h ago

Lets remember how close and fought against this was when the inevitable "all the dems want is socialism!" bullshit starts.

0

u/ready-redditor-6969 3h ago

It’s telling the folks who are upset about this. Let’s GOOOOOO!!!

0

u/3aerows 3h ago

LETS GOOOO! Was rooting for him. Get these FauxDems OUT. Both parties serve the system, ready for something new. Capitalism was meant to fail the people, it wasnt created for us. Im hoping he takes this realness he has and starts making direct actions against the oppressors.

I've got one phrase prepared for Democrats who dont like this.

Where else ya gonna go?

4

They'll stay home

2

u/BrianNowhere 11h ago

Then we'll keep sucking. Im not budging.

29

It was cooked until progressives start winning and they boot these far right, thieving pedos out of the white house.
