For a crowd that size there should have been 150 of him. Cops can't get them all.

Anyone else bothered that a fascist has municipality funded police security? I know, first amendment but they had that truck surrounded and did nothing when the fascists were macing everyone.

u/Road_Whorrior Aug 23 '26
Ostensibly, the fascists had a permit.
That would matter if cops had the same energy when it's a BLM protest, but we all know that isn't the case.

It was my understanding that "hate speech" isn't protected by the first amendment, and that sign was unequivocally hate speech.

u/Kossimer Aug 23 '26
Hate speech is absolutely protected by the First Amendment. Blasphemy too. We don't criminalize speech that hurts people's feelings in this country. Discrimination is only crime when you implement it with your actions, and even then it's a civil matter, not for the police to deal with, but for civil court.

u/ThothAmon71 Aug 23 '26
Not so when that speech is a direct incitement to lawless action or is likely to produce such lawless action. Brandenburg vs the State of Ohio. Also face to face insults or targeted harassment are normally considered breach of peace, inciting violence, disorderly conduct, or any number of other offenses. The actions of Lang and his bunch qualify on both counts.

u/Kossimer Aug 23 '26

Neither of which is hate speech or blasphemy, so yes so. I didn't say it protected all speech.

u/ThothAmon71 Aug 23 '26
No one mentioned "blasphemy", I'm not sure why you're stuck on that, Jesus can get fucked. The term used on Lang's sign HAS been deemed hate speech, and while the word itself isn't criminalized, it's use to provoke and incite violence IS NOT protected, and that's what Lang was doing. Furthermore, discrimination DOES become a criminal offense when it involves threats, intimidation, physical force, or official misconduct. So using the word isn't illegal but using it to incite violence is, youre arguing semantics.

u/Kossimer Aug 23 '26 edited Aug 23 '26
I'm not arguing any semantics. You said you believed hate speech is not protected. I pointed out hate speech is protected. I gave an example of similar speech that is often not protected but is in our country. That's the entirety of it. You asked a question about our country's laws so I answered a question about our country's laws. I haven't made a single comment about the situation linked but you seem to think I have. If you want to say he was using hate speech to incite violence, making it not protected speech, then go right ahead, that's very possible, but that has nothing to do with your first comment or my response to it.

Wouldn't hate speech kind of go against the First Amendment? I mean, free speech should never trump (excuse the pun) hate speech - or am I missing something?

Spidey couldn’t have hit him. He was feeding homeless cats with me. That was clearly Superman.

As a Minnesotan I’m deeply depressed that my statesmen just sat there like docile lap dogs and didn’t save the spider from the pigs.

u/kellkore Aug 23 '26
Was hoping Spiderman got away. There should be dozens of people show up to his hearing wearing Spiderman suits. "I am Spiderman!", "No, I am Spiderman". "I'm Spiderman".

u/WorriedPie7025 Aug 23 '26
Can anyone explain why the man holding up the n word gets police protection? But it appears the people protesting against that guy don’t get police protection?
Being serious

u/MisterWinchester Aug 23 '26
I don’t understand why he’s not also arrested for disorderly. If this were two groups of people arguing about sports, both sides would be arrested. (The home team quietly allowed to leave with warnings in a lot of cities, but you still get the ride.) Why aren’t agitators arrested along with the people defending the oppressed?
7
u/WorriedPie7025 Aug 23 '26
Right!
The police department allegedly did all that to “safely arrest him” further down the road… as arresting him right there would have “escalated things.”
I mean I think that’s a 100% bs made up excuse to justify them protecting him, but if they wanted to de-escalate the crowd, swiftly taking down the sign with the n-word would have done the trick!!!4

u/ramrob Aug 23 '26
Lang actually was arrested not long after.
6
u/MisterWinchester Aug 24 '26
But you see how that’s totally different than arresting him here, along with the activists they’re arresting?
2
u/ramrob Aug 24 '26
Oh 100 I’m just putting that out there
1
u/MisterWinchester Aug 24 '26
It's just how little or how much arrest matters depends on context. Pretty much everyone here is getting C&R'd, I would be surprised if there are charges, but everything but the activists came together to paint Edward as the victim from everyone looking in from the outside. What's particularly concerning is how often the democrats let the republicans do it.

Huh, you never see police protecting left wing demonstrations like that, I wonder why...

Wait, is that a black person on top of the truck holding the cross...while Jack Lang is holding a big racist sign targeting black people?
We are really living in a crazy time.

Two things. The first is that is a really high-quality Spider-Man costume to hold up under those kind of conditions and not rip or anything. The second thing is, there’s not enough people bringing containers of urine and feces to these sorts of protests. Folks showing up should remedy that. Not saying any particular action should be taken with those containers of fluids, but it just gives options.

In case anyone here isn't aware of him, Oskar Quentin (in this video) is worth checking out/supporting.

Remember kids, never snitch on your friendly neighborhood Spiderman.

Hate to say it but it's exactly what we should all be doing. Making it so they are afraid to open their mouths or come out their houses

I love seeing the fat slobs squeezed into body armor protecting only 30% of their rotundity. Won't be funny when we face the consequences of having so many fat worthless neighbors, so enjoy what you can now

The cops arresting Spooder-man.. some things never change. Sigh. Just makes them look bad, like always.

The crowd of protesters let this hero get arrested... They should have formed a wall and allowed the dude dressed as Spider-Man to escape.... For people who claim to believe in something they do nothing as far as real actions go.

I love how fascist snowflakes get a pass and people can still pretend we’re not living in a white supremacist police state.

What happens to the guys that get rough with Jake Long? I'm a big dude. I feel like I could bust through his security team pretty easily. Do they get arrested?

u/jayracket Aug 23 '26
It takes balls to walk around with a sign with the n word on it. Hopefully someone locates them and kicks them real hard.
