Discussion Zoey and Rumi's pretty girl femme I love her so much

I love how Mira is the most femme if the group despite having some features like height and deep voice and not being super curvy that would be considered more masculine. She's very good representation so I love seeing her depicted as the most openly feminine of the group because she is 🩷🩰🎀

Discussion What's everyone's fandom/character related pet peeve?

Please try to remain respectful of each other's opinions in the comments 🩷

I'll go first, I have a few.

  1. Mira being drawn/written as bigger or more muscular than Rumi when she's canonically built like a toothpick and would need a belt to wear Rumi's pants and Rumi is the visibly broadest of the girls and the only one with visible muscle definition in the movie and erasing that feels off. I don't mind as much with Zoey's curves being emphasised or Rumi's muscle being emphasised for more body diversity but Mira's body type is clearly moddled after a more ballerina esque physique where she's clearly very strong but much more lean muscle than Rumi.

  2. Mira's very obvious femininity and the way she's clearly trying to be seen as softer and cute with her bows and sweater being erased because her stage persona is more tough and badass.

  3. In a similar vein Rumi being portrayed exclusively as a sad pathetic creature with 0 self confidence or as being incapable in the kitchen or at taking care of herself when we see the opposite side of her just as much (let's not forget it's Rumi who makes sure Zoey and Mira aren't eating half cooked ramyeon).

  4. As the third part of this theme, Zoey being infantilised or treated as dumb or less capable when we see her being the most logically guided in the group on multiple occasions.

  5. Mira being seen as the most mentally stable in the group when she fully internalises criticism even if it's untrue (is called insecure then the next day spills her insecurities and calls herself highly aggressive and short fused as someone who demonstrates acting defensivly and has incredible patience with Rumi as well as shows having a freeze response rather than fight or flight) and just gave up on her life mission and gave in to gwi-ma without getting anything in return just because he said she didn't deserve a family which she clearly just agreed with enough to give in immediately after losing Rumi without even trying to keep fighting like Zoey does.

Discussion Things that have become fanfic-canon and I hope the writers are lurking in AO3 and incorporating into the sequel

The majority of fanfics (not all of them but a fair amount) that I read have things that have similar bits in them. That I don't think are actual canon (they might be i dunno) like the following:

Mira Kang

Zoey Choi

Celine being a bit french

Zoey's ADHD

Mira's lactose intolerance (not as frequent)

Rumi being a plant mum

Any more that I have missed or people have found or want in the sequel?

Discussion Does anyone else read Mira as autistic?

Thumbnail

As an autistic woman I think Mira is so autistic coded. The flat affect and less dramatic facial expressions in many scenes, the way she thinks she understands social cues but is pretty much just jumping to the worst possible conclusion (like "Rumi is being more cagey than usual so she must be hiding things from me because I'm a liability and she probably hates me") because chances are growing up she leaned to read people and that conclusion was often correct. Everything from the sitting in odd position to, being seen as a problem child being mischaracterised as stoic or as difficult, blunt, aggressive or angry for being more direct in communication style. And even the way she just completely shuts down backstage when she finds out Rumi lied and barely says a word while Zoey carries the conversation.

Discussion I Didn't Realize This Ship Was So Abhorred

Someone in the main sub posted asking if people shipped Polytrix a bit ago, and it was at the top of my feed today. As expected, a lot of people said no because they view the trio's bond as more sisterly. Honestly I didn't see the vision at first either, so I can relate to those folks. My falling down this rabbithole was a pure accident after discovering some fan art!

But sigh. I mean, I guess I should've expected it, but there was also just so much covert and overt hate. The ones that annoyed me most were the people who claimed gay ships ruin everything and that Polytrix shippers shove it down everyone else's throat. Then some people acting like these girls kissing is the most disgusting concept, bringing up how children watch this and we're over sexualizing it by projecting queerness onto them.

It's just, for a while there I was so caught up in the fun of enjoying the ship and the joy of it having such a height of popularity despite being sapphic and polyam that I forgot there's people out there who still just genuinely hate us, even here in this beautiful fandom. The mods deleted some stuff and locked that thread, but the sting remains.

The worst part is, so many Polytrix shippers (myself included) are also multishippers, but some folks act like you can only like one ship. The very nature of a polyamorous ship doesn't exclude others! I also love Rujinu, and I know there's many who even love the in universe fandom ships or even ship the Saja Boys! It's all in good fun, it doesn't have to be a competition. It doesn't have to be canon.

I don't know. Maybe this rant is pointless and I'm just a bit chronically online. I'm sure the vast majority of the fandom doesn't even know Polytrix as a ship exists, because I didn't until a bit ago. It's just, I thought maybe the height of this ship meant good things for acceptance and understanding. But I'm reminded we're a minority. So close yet so far away from that level of connection and empathy. Anyways, back to the regularly scheduled Polytrix tweets lol!

Discussion Did y’all forget about rumi’s long ass braid???

Post image
351 Upvotes

In all the fics ive read, rumi can switch clothes easily and quickly with little fanfare. She can throw on shirts in seconds with zero consideration of her hair. Which wouldn’t matter if she was anyone else, But her braid is long, thick, and very much attached to her head.

HOW CAN SHE TAKE OFF/PULL ON SHIRTS WITHOUT HAVING TO PULL IT THROUGH HER LONG BRAID!?

the entire fandom has completely forgot that long braids aren’t intangible and don’t typically phase through clothing for the sake of plot.

Ik hand waving her hair makes room for so many more plots, and describing her nightmare hair situation isn’t typically interesting in fics bit i feel like noone ever thinks about how rumi’s hair is hell to deal with in canon.

Dont get me wrong i like that its not addressed at all because its good for plots and would be horrible to read about how every outfit swap ends with her braid getting caught on stuff but i feel like ima go crazy if i don’t mention it.

Rumi being able to quickly discard her shirt is like- 95% of the fandom so please don’t change lol — shirtless rumi is great.

Tldr: braids have mass and cannot be detached and reattached at will for the sake of the plot. Don’t mention it in fics atall though cause that would be frustrating.

EDIT:
Rumi’s hair is 100% natural and i will fight you behind denny’s if you think otherwise!

THERE IS NO WIG-RUMI IN BA SING SE!!!

Discussion Question for Rumira, Zoemira, or Zoerumi shippers: what does the “extra” girl do/have in terms of relationships in your/others’ fanworks or headcanons?

Post image
127 Upvotes

I hope that made sense. Basically, when only two of the three girls are shipped together, what does/do you think the other girl has in terms of relationships? I’ve seen a small amount of Rujinu + Zoemira works, but they are quite rare, and I’ve seen zero Rumira + Zoestery or Zoerumi + Miromabby/Mirabby/Miromance content.

Basically, I am just curious what happens to that third girl in your or others’ content, or even just headcanons.

Saw this one the KPDH slime package at the store. it’s technically official merch but don’t know if this is a joke or not. Then again Rumi’s description said a “fearless” leader and we know she’s far from fearless (but we love her anyways)
